The heavy bronze doors at the base of the Great Hall creaked open. Four Silver Moon warriors marched in, led by Captain Brutus—the very man who had dragged me out of Jax’s hall by my hair.
Brutus walked with a cocky, arrogant posture, his chin held high as if he still owned the floor beneath his boots. But as he crossed the threshold into the Obsidian Citadel, the weight of the Shadow Lands' heavy, suffocating magic hit him. His steps slowed. His gaze flicked nervously toward the rows of scarred, silent Lycan elite staring back at him.
When his eyes landed on the dais, he froze.
I sat on the throne beside King Lucian, dressed in silk and midnight velvet, looking down at him. Brutus’s mouth twitched in utter disbelief. He had expected to find my corpse rotting in the neutral zone, not seated at the right hand of the Shattered Alpha.
"Captain Brutus," I said, my voice cutting through the silence like a freshly honed blade. "You're far from home."
Brutus swallowed hard, forcing his jaw to set as he addressed the dais, trying desperately to regain his composure. "King Lucian. I am here on behalf of Alpha Jax of the Silver Moon Pack. We demand the immediate extradition of the rogue, Elena Vance. She has fled pack justice and carries sensitive pack secrets."
A low chuckle echoed from the high throne. Lucian didn't shift in his seat. He leaned his cheek against his knuckles, his glowing silver eyes fixed on the trembling captain.
"Pack justice?" Lucian’s deep voice rolled through the hall like distant thunder. "From what I understand, Alpha Jax stripped her of her pack rights, severed her mate bond, and banished her into my territory under penalty of death. Is that accurate, Captain?"
"She... she is a outcast who—"
"Answer the question," Lucian growled, the sheer pressure of his command dropping Brutus to his knees. The stone floor cracked beneath the force of the King's aura. The three guards behind Brutus instantly hit the ground, panting for air under the crushing weight.
"Yes!" Brutus choked out, sweat pouring down his face. "She was banished! But Alpha Jax has ordered her return!"
"Alpha Jax has no jurisdiction here," I spoke up, standing from my chair and taking three deliberate steps to the edge of the dais. "Jax called me weak. He called me trash and threw me to the wolves in the dark. Tell me, Captain... does a weakling sit beside the Lycan King?"
Brutus looked up at me, his eyes wide with a mix of shock and genuine fear. He could feel it now—the subtle, ancient aura radiating off my skin. The dormant bloodline power that Jax had stupidly suppressed for years was beginning to awaken, making the air around me hum with silver sparks.
"You're... you're supposed to be nothing," Brutus stammered, his bravado completely shattered.
"Go back to your Alpha," Lucian commanded smoothly, rising from his throne and stepping down beside me. He placed a heavy, protective hand on the small of my back, sending a wave of electric warmth through my chest. "Tell Jax that if he wants Elena back, he can come fetch her himself. But warn him—the moment he steps across my border, I will tear his heart from his chest and feed it to his precious new mate."
Lucian raised a single finger. Instantly, Commander Vane stepped forward, drawing his broadsword with a sharp metallic ring.
"Leave one alive to deliver the message," Lucian added coldly. "Execute the other three."
Before Brutus could even scream, Vane moved like a phantom. Steel flashed in the ambient torchlight, and blood sprayed across the dark marble. Brutus was kicked out the front doors, terrified and covered in the blood of his men, scrambling into the woods to run back to Jax.
I didn't flinch. For the first time in my life, watching my enemies bleed didn't fill me with fear—it filled me with absolute, undeniable power.
Lucian turned to me, his silver eyes searching my face with a dark, satisfied intensity. "Your revenge begins now, Elena."
