CHAPTER- 3

FREYAH MIDNIGHT I suddenly woke up, feeling something strange. When I opened my eyes. I immediately saw… under the dim light of the lamp, a figure standing a few steps away from the side of my bed. I quickly turned to the other side, remembering Gillian… or Archie. I felt a sense of relief when I saw that he was still there, lying peacefully. “What do you want to know? You called me using your mind, didn’t you? Make it quick. I don’t want to stay long in this room, especially since there’s a werewolf here,” she said sharply. Was my other self really this short-tempered? “Hey! Are you getting up or should I leave?” she added irritably. “I’m getting up,” I said as I slowly rose to my feet. “I just want to know something… about my family. Why can’t I remember so many things about them? What happened?” I paused for a moment before continuing, “And one more thing, Gillian… or Archie, did we ever have a relationship before?” “Okay, follow me,” she said, turning her back on me. I followed her until we stopped in front of a large TV. “Close your eyes,” she ordered, and I did as she said. A few seconds passed before I felt myself slowly floating in the air… Then, little by little, I opened my eyes. GOLDEN ACADEMY The building before me, its name, was something I could never forget. It was here where my heart first learned how to love, back when I was just a first-year-high school student. At first, it was only a simple admiration, but over time, that admiration blossomed into a secret love. When I reached my second year, something unexpected happened in the middle of the school year: I remember, my hair suddenly changed color. That was when everything in my life began to change. I had to stay away from him… because someone already owned my heart, my soulmate. Besides, I could no longer remain in that school because of my condition. I needed to live somewhere cold for my safety. Mommy and Daddy took me to Alaska, along with several of our bodyguards. They stayed with me for a few days. We took many pictures together, and three large paintings of us now hang on the wall of my room. There’s also a photo of them on my bedside table. Our last night together was filled with joy. I slept between them, and before I closed my eyes, they both held me in their arms. But when morning came, I woke up suddenly. I looked around in confusion, the place was unfamiliar. Even the photos surrounding me were of people I didn’t recognize. I quickly got out of bed, and when I turned toward the mirror, I could hardly believe what I saw. The girl in the reflection… was me. And my hair… it was golden red… It's really me. I turned to look at the surrounding photos, and that was when I realized, it was indeed me in those pictures. Yet, the two older people standing beside me… I didn’t know who they were. Who are they? Even the names in my phone book, none of them were familiar. But when I opened my photo gallery, one person instantly caught my eye, Archie, my ultimate crush from my former school. He was the only one I recognized. When I arrived at UA–Golden Academy, I quickly confirmed that it was just a branch of my old school. The moment I entered the classroom, no one seemed to notice me. The room was noisy and chaotic; the students didn’t even pay attention to the teacher speaking in front. Even when I was introduced to the class, they all ignored me, as if I were invisible. Maybe it was because I looked different, because my face was unlike anyone else’s. Days passed quickly, and eventually, I found friends. Their company brought me joy; to me, they became the family I never had. I didn’t have a single relative to call my own. The only people living with me in the big house, or rather, the mansion, were bodyguards and housekeepers. So when graduation day finally came, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sadness. I knew I wouldn’t be able to see or be with my friends again, since they would all continue their studies at different universities. After the ceremony, while I was walking out of the building, I accidentally bumped into a man. I was about to get angry, but I froze the moment I recognized him. “A—Archie?” I whispered softly, but he didn’t even look at me. He just kept walking straight ahead, as if he hadn’t heard a thing. I wanted to call out to him, but I decided not to. Maybe… there would still be another chance for our paths to cross again. When I entered college, fate brought Archie and me together once more. My feelings for him hadn’t changed, he was still the man who owned my heart. Our classrooms were next to each other, mine for Medicine, and his for Political Science. We often ate together at the canteen. He was friendly, kind, and always wore a gentle smile, and that made me love him even more. I waited for him to confess his feelings to me. Because even though I already had a soulmate, and I knew it was forbidden, I would still have said yes… if only he had asked. But that moment never came. He never showed any intention of courting me. Still, whenever I had a problem, he was always there. There were even times when I cried for no reason, and somehow, he would suddenly appear—just to wipe away my tears. For every assignment, activity, and project, he was always there to help me. Honestly, most people on campus thought that we were in a relationship. Eventually, I just got used to it, used to us being together, yet never truly being together. Years passed… A week before the day I’d been waiting for, my eighteenth birthday, some people came to the house. They hugged me warmly, their faces filled with joy. I didn’t recognize them, yet they looked strangely familiar. They were the same elderly couple in the paintings hanging on the wall beside my own portrait. The same ones who appeared with me in old photographs. I didn’t want to take away the happiness on their faces, so I simply went along with it… pretending that I knew them. I tried my best not to let them notice that they were strangers to me. Soon, they began planning for my upcoming debut, and I could feel their genuine excitement and joy. As night fell, I took the necklace from my music box and clasped it around my neck. I couldn’t stop glancing at my reflection in the mirror, too eager to wait. In just a few more days, the color of the pendant would change, a sign that my hidden power was about to awaken. Perhaps it was the excitement of finally discovering what kind of power I possessed… and the anticipation of the day my soulmate would appear. The Day of My Birthday When my birthday finally arrived, I didn’t know what to feel. What would happen once the pendant changed color and my power revealed itself? And what would I do when I finally met my soulmate? But even then, only one man remained in my heart, the same one I secretly loved all these years: my ultimate crush, the boy I met back in Golden Academy during high school… the same man who still lingered in my thoughts now, here at UA–Colleges Golden Academy. By six in the evening, the grand mansion’s compound was already filled with guests. As always, snow was falling gently outside. I took a deep breath before stepping toward the center of the grand hall. But before I could even reach it, a man suddenly appeared in front of me, and without warning, he kissed me on the lips. I froze where I stood, my entire body turning cold and still. Then, as I remembered the ancient rules, the things that were forbidden—I pushed him away with all my strength and slapped him hard across the face. Without another word, I turned and ran, tears streaming down my cheeks. What now? Even before my pendant could turn gold, that man had already kissed me... What if I lose my powers because of that? The Meeting of the Soulmates “My love, I’m your soulmate. Can’t you feel it?” I turned to face him, and that was when I noticed he was wearing a mask, revealing only his lips. “No, you’re not my soulmate. I would’ve felt it if you truly were,” I said softly, stepping back to distance myself. But before I could move any farther, a pair of warm arms wrapped tightly around me from behind. “Feel me,” he whispered in my ear. “I’m really your soulmate. Look at your pendant… it’s glowing.” My hand flew to my pendant, and to my shock, it was indeed glowing—shimmering with a pure white light. Did that mean… he really was my soulmate? I was about to speak when he suddenly disappeared. I looked around in confusion… and then I saw him, not far away, being embraced by another woman. As I started toward them, the woman’s fangs suddenly appeared. My heart pounded as I screamed and ran toward them, horror gripping my chest as she sank her teeth into his neck. “No!” I cried out with all my strength. At that exact moment, my pendant burst into a brilliant blue light. When I turned back, the woman was gone, and there he was, kneeling in the snow, weak and bleeding. In an instant, I was at his side, holding him tightly in my arms. When he looked up at me, his eyes glowed the same deep blue, just before he lost consciousness. Panic took over me. I shut my eyes tightly, and when I opened them again… Freyah, my other self, was standing right before me. I looked around and saw Gillian… or Archie, still lying on the bed. Then I turned to my other identity and confronted her. “Why didn’t you show me the reason why I lost all my memories of my family?” “Ask the Vampire King about that,” she replied coldly. “I’m leaving now. Bye!” “Wait…” I called out, but she was already gone.
