Chapter 10: Responsibility

Third Person POV;

Hearing the inquiries from the middle-aged man, Kiel gazes that was following the two best friends suddenly turn to the other side of the couch.

"What will you discuss anyway, the 17th generation of the Shadow Hunter Association, Mr. Alex Reaper?" The vampire raise his eyebrows as his usual expression.

The man feel a bit of disappointment for the attitude the prince shows but he just choose to sighed for the sake of the topic to proceed.

"This time, enemies are hard to deal and what makes me anxious is that this aren't just a regular monsters or some beasts, this are more powerful. The enemy was getting stronger. I'm afraid that it might harm many more people." Alex said while catching his forehead.

"Wait, Mr. Reaper! Can you tell me... I mean can you tell us what's going on? How can you say it was getting stronger?" Zen become alert and tries to ease his while having a breakdown.

"Tereya report me that some of her members fought with it and all they can say is the fight was getting intense and hard. But, we notice that it'll weaken at a day and become powerful at night, giving off a heavy energy comes from inside of it."

So Kiel ask, "what do you like us to do then?"

"This area is where the portals was activated." Alex says then grabbed a map of the whole city from the drawer under the table and open it then point the areas he meant.

"Anyway, I'm giving you a mission. Clear all the gate that was connected to the other world, the Underworld!" He smack his fist into the surface, "I won't allow it to harm any more lives."

The three blinked, saying they have nothing to say..

"Oh sorry, I become so hypersensitive when it comes to safety of the people." He cleared his throat.

"Man, you don't have to worry. We'll be fine." Zen wave his hands.

"But how does those things suddenly appeared here?"

"It's either the God has returned. Or his disciple since no one can open a gate for that long." Kiel respond.

"God? Who?"

"It's the God of the Night."

"How is that possible?"

"Only they can open such a strong seal."

"Wait, I don't understand this." The man frown.

"Didn't your ancestors told the details to you?" The prince look at him with a judgemental look.

"It's not like that. It's just that I already forgot it."

"How frail."

"Okay! Let's begin to... Where should I start?" While Zen was thinking for the topic, Kiel gave him a content.

"From history to prophecy."

"i***t! History is a long story. But as for the prophecy, I'll just gonna remember the important details."

"Everything is important."

"Yeah, I know but only the cause or the point of his question I'll gonna answer since it was the only thing he ask!" He hissed at the vampire's insist.

"Okay, as I remembered in the history, the God of Night became the most famous tale about the god who betray all the realms. Since then he was being punished, to eradicate his existence along with the creature of the night."

"What? Why?"

"I don't know but they say, he was the one who will bring down the heavenly emperor from his throne, so means he will bring chaos in Earth."

"I mean, what's the connection between that history to the gate of underworld! But since you told the story so... Yeah, I've become curious about that God." Zen's face turn into priceless, making the vampire scoffed but he gave him a threatening gaze.

"Forget it." He then rolled his eyes in annoyance.

"I'm serious now, please continue. I become curious."

"Well, I don't remember such a past events. But according to the prophecy, there's this disciple that will become the first duchess ever in the record and she will be the first duchess to challenge the heaven's will. And beside, I heard that she can withstand the power of heavenly emperor, Almighty."

"As far as I heard, there's a time when that God and Almighty having a battle, he use his blood and his shadow to summon dead from the other side. But he's not a necromancer, it was just already flow in him as a God of the night and beside, night is the second most powerful one, it makes a balance between a light and dark. Just like a Chinese Yin Yang, a daytime and nighttime." Zen added.

"Okay that's it. We don't have to waste time here, we had to go." Kiel suddenly stood and walk towards the door.

"Alright, since I'm also busy here. I'll call you later when another trouble occurs." Alex stood and head to his table.

Zen gently closed the door as the three of them got out.

"They're waiting, let's go."

"Wow Kiel, are you concern?" Zen's eyes become large while blinking in two times, as if he finally caught something through Kiel's action.

"I'm not," with a poker face, Kiel calmly denies.

"Oh come on man, I know you are!"

"I don't care now. Maybe they already left."

"I don't believe you. I know you really are, right Ran? Do you also heard him, right? Ran?" Zen ask him repeatedly but didn't get an answer.

"Ah, is that you'll going to treat me starting today? Is that it? You'll going to ignore me, Ran? Huh?" Zen sarcastically ask, making Ran sighed and eventually nod.

"Yes! I knew it you also get the point!"

"Shut up, Zen!"

"Oh! There they are!" Zen point his finger toward the best friend who was having a conversation.

As the two turn to their direction, Zen quickly wave his hands and give them a huge smile. And they all left the building, going to their respective base, their only café.

Mei and Andgry enjoying themselves as Zen was their server, while the other was having different world. Laurence voice is much as loud as Zen with their two customers that was having a peaceful coffee break turn to the two noisy boys.

"Dammit, Ran! Give me the wipes! I told Laurence to hand me the thing but he just ignored me!" Zen exclaim.

"I already ordered Ivan to do it! I'm also busy here!" Laurence respond.

"Just where is George?! You see I neither have work! Geez, that i***t is useless!" Ivan was looking for George. Their voices can be heard through inside and outside.

Meanwhile, a man sat above the roof, taking a second bite in the blood red apple and seems like to have a deep thought. Then another guy showed up behind his back, wearing a uniform as a waiter with both of his hands in his back.

"Master, they we're looking for you. Don't you want to go down?" Ran ask.

"Let them be. I know Zen can handle it."

Kiel answered then took a last bite before he slightly throw it in the air and kick it from the tip of his left feet to the right, back to the left and so on with both of his hands behind his nape and was leaning on the roof.

"It's not good to play a food, Master." Ran strictly remind him, which made Kiel chuckle and turn to his direction.

"Want some?" He ask him teasingly and a smirk formed his lips.

"You already knew I don't eat. It will just rotted inside my body unlike humans."

"So Ran tell me, what did you observe from her?"

Then the winds blow before Ran could answer.

"That girl?"

"Hmm."

"Her aura seems to be normal. But with a faint texture of his."

"I know you can said it. Too bad I forgot how his energy feels like. Where do you think is he now?"

"I don't know either. We all know they really rid of him."

Kiel deeply sighed at Ran's answered, "but..." He then paused and quickly turn his eyes to the waiter who was speaking.

"But?"

"But maybe, he somehow manage to return."

"I hope so." The vampire close his eyes while feeling the cold wind brushing their skin then reveal a relief smile.

"I miss those times when we first met, when he introduced you to our family, to me when I was young. You become the part of the family, serving us as the butler. And the time when we first saw Zen."

"That time, I was searching for you when His Excellency summoned you. I also wondered where are you that time. Do you remember the place where there's only a tree standing in the field?" Ran ask while thinking about their past.

"Ahh, that place?"

"Exactly. I eventually found you there while you're sleeping peacefully at his lap. And Zen keep clinging to his mom that was also there."

Silence invade them again. A couple of minutes by when Kiel decide to speak again, he sighed as another memory flow with him.

"I still remember the first time I met him, I was being chased by the villagers."

"Master? Did you?"

"Yeah, when they know I'm a vampire. Good thing is that Van Helsing, the vampire's worst enemy wasn't there."

"Do humans really think that we are the reflection and the dark side of the living creature like them?"

"Maybe."

"No wonder we are being called shadows."

"Yes Master. To them, our existence is only a lies, without knowing we are real and we can be real."

"Because humans are ignorant, and pathetic." Kiel sighed.

"Master, come to think of it, I haven't see his disciple even once." Ran said.

"Ah? Why are you suddenly become curious about it?" Kiel ask in a teasing way.

"Nothing. I just found it strange." Ran told him and he agrees.

But the two paused, became silent and didn't dare to make even a slight movement. Although in the breezy night, something's off in the atmosphere as they observe the flow.

The two instantly become missing in the place within a seconds. Ran barge in and Kiel vanished himself in the wind and flew away to the location of where they found odd.

"Zen." Ran mention him with a calm but alerting voice, making the guy in the counter turn to him with an aware face.

As Kiel landed in the ground, searching for something in the middle of dusty and empty road, with no lights with the surrounding that was already turn into eerie one. Ran and Zen came into the view, also feeling the aura that gathered in the place.

Then suddenly, a gunshot was echoed through the hallway, making the three of them dash toward the location of the sound. In there they found a wounded boy, a fragile little boy with his thin body that was bathing in his own blood while lying on the dirty ground.

"That's the scent of a werewolf." Ran whisper as they hide behind a wall on not so far from the place.

"You think so?" Kiel ask him but he didn't got an answer and beside, Ran just look at him that only the two of them can understand, giving the prince that kind of gaze as if they find something suspicious.

"Is this it?" A man's voice spoke after the sound fades.

"Yes. Monsters are everywhere today." Another voice can be heard through the place.

"Damn, just what the hell is the creature is this?"

"And what's with this furry arms and feet? And this ear? And why would they has a tail? Like a dog! Damn, this really creep me out! Should we kill it?"

"No! It would be better if we'll sale it in a very expensive price. I know someone who would definitely buy this! Then we'll become rich!" The two says in determination and laugh at the thought of becoming billionaire.

"Right! Exactly! Then we'll become famous and popular!" Then they laughed again.

Zen's face was dark filled with extreme rage expression while looking at the injured body of his fellow werewolf.

"Zen-"

Kiel called him but before he could finish off his words, Zen was already gone. He just took a deep breath thinking he can't stop him.

The other man was about to pick the kid when a hand suddenly came out from the view and pin him on the wall, creating a loud thud while clasping his neck tightly and slowly lift him up.

"Aaccckkkk!!!"

The man keeps on struggling for his life at the hands of the aggressive werewolf that was now glaring at him with his intense golden eyes. He then turn to the other man who was holding a g*n.

"W-who are y-you?! L-let him g-go! Or e-else... I-I'll s-shoot! I-I'll s-shoot y-you!!" The other man keep on stuttering as he point the weapon at Zen with his trembling hands.

"Humans, what has a kid done to you?!" Zen snarled, making the man trembled more and shivered in fear.

"J-just... L-l-let h-h-him g-go!" Sweat dropped from the man's face as he grit his teeth while holding the g*n tightly with his two hands.

"If I let him go, will you answer my question?" Zen's voice was now calm.

"Yes! I-i will!" The man instantly nod at his question, thinking it's the only way to save his friend.

Then the werewolf unclasp the man and both of his knees fell in the ground and was coughing very hard, gasping for air and trying to catch his breath. But as the two human's gazes meet, the victim shout.

"RUN!!"

The other man was about to run when a five arrows suddenly strike to the side of him, blocking the way, causing him to sat on the floor with his horrified face. Then the two came out.

"Excellent, Zen. What a very pathetic decision you make." Kiel sarcastically praise him.

"Now tell me why did you hurt an innocent kid?"

"Haven't you heard their conversation earlier? I bet you hear it and yet, you still asking?" The vampire raise his eyebrow.

"Shut up Kiel!" Zen yell but the vampire just remain calm and went to his target. Kiel then grab his neck and lift it up.

"Stand up, you worthless trash." Even in a trembling knees, the man followed his words.

"Master, it was really what we think. It's a set up. The boy was already dead." Ran uttered after touching the kid's pulse, that cause him to get a different reactions.

"Huh?"

"What?"

"What do you mean already, Ran?" Zen finally ask, with his confused face.

"It was a human corpse. Look, the body was already cold, almost become rotted." Ran answered.

"How could it be dead?! I just saw it with my two eyes that it tried to run after stealing something from my restaurant!" The man near Zen exclaim looking at the body.

"What did he stole from you?" Kiel ask the man who owns the restaurant he said.

"It was my necklace. But this isn't just an ordinary necklace! It was from my ancestors, saying I have to hide it but to my surprise, someone would trace it!" The man explain.

Zen went near to the boy and sniff the essence of the blood when he found something in the boy's arms. Inside the furry glove the kid wears, it was a piece of skin from a wolf, making the body also got the scent of a werewolf. Zen pick the thing and put it inside his pocket.

"I'm going to investigate this. But I didn't found the necklace you mention."

"But how-" before he could finish his words, Kiel snap their nape in the fast speed, making the two human knocked out.

"Let's talk about it tomorrow. We should head back for now." Then they left at the scene with a body.
