Embracing Differences, Celebrating Equality

Hi Tom, I'm Jazzy. I want to take you on a journey of self-discovery and resilience. Growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, comes with its own challenges, but none of them define who I am or who I aspire to be. Allow me to share my story with you. I entered this world on June 16th, 1998, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. It was a Tuesday night, between 6 and 7 pm. I was a tiny bundle, weighing just 8 pounds and an ounce. Little did I know then that my life would be marked by both struggles and triumphs. As a child, I faced the difficulties that many youngsters encounter while navigating the path to adulthood. Time zoomed by, leaving me with fleeting memories of innocent laughter and youthful adventures. Along this journey, I was fortunate to have two younger brothers, Anthonie and Korben, who shared in both my joys and sorrows. Anthonie, at 23, and Korben, at 20, were my anchors in an ever-changing world. We may have been three years apart in age, but the bond we shared was immeasurable. Friendship, however, was a realm I struggled to navigate. I pushed away those who sought companionship, though I cannot fathom why. Perhaps it was my fear of letting others see my true self or an unintentional defense mechanism. Another contributor to my social isolation was the constant moving from one house to another. Every year or so, a new address brought new faces and unfamiliar surroundings, leading to natural distance between me and potential friends. What defined me throughout my life was my mental disability. But let me be clear: disabilities do not disable dreams. Instead, they serve as reminders that we all have unique abilities, requiring us to approach life from different angles. Though my challenges may be different from those faced by others, they do not diminish my potential. In fact, my disabilities have shaped my perspective, enabling me to appreciate the immense strength and resilience within me. In a world that often focuses on differences, it is important to remember that we are all human beings, deserving of love and respect. No matter our background, ethnicity, or race, we all bleed red. This shared connection unites us, making us equal in the face of life's trials and triumphs. As I share the chapters of my life with you, I hope to inspire a deeper understanding of the power of acceptance, and the beauty that lies in embracing differences. Together, let us embark on a journey where dreams are not defined by disabilities, and where equality reigns supreme. Join me as we delve deeper into the tapestry of my existence, filled with hopes, dreams, and the profound belief that though we may be different, we are all deserving of love, respect, and the pursuit of happiness. The world may be fixated on differences, but I learned at a young age to embrace mine. It's what makes me Jazzy, and my differences also ignited an unyielding spirit within me that fuels my dreams and desires. In essence, adversity only propelled me towards growth; it did not break me. My heart swelled with determination to create my own narrative in a society filled with preconceived notions about individuals like myself. At sixteen, during high school days plagued with acne outbreaks and raging hormones, I found solace in writing poems expressing the overwhelming emotions within me. They became an extension of myself - a cathartic release from the constant turmoil churning inside my mind. Over time, these verses evolved into narratives exploring life's intricate nuances from my unique perspective as someone dealing with mental health issues and societal prejudices related to disability status. Dear Tom,I wanted to express my gratitude towards your spectacular work in the world of Harry Potter and beyond.
