Chapter Seven: Temptation and Terror

441 Words
The remaining friends huddled in the basement, silent except for their shaky breathing. Tears still stained their cheeks from Sophie and Aria’s deaths. Every shadow seemed to pulse with menace. Nova fidgeted with her hands. “I… I need to get my bag,” she finally said. Eli rolled his eyes, trying to keep his voice light, though fear lurked beneath it. “Nova, come on! You know how every horror movie goes—you split from the group, you die. Don’t do it!” Nova’s eyes blazed. “I can’t leave it! Everything I need is in that bag!” “Your life is more important than your stupid bag!” Eli shouted, but Nova had already stormed off, her footsteps echoing down the dark hall. The first room was like nothing she expected. The broken, dusty space from before had transformed. Now, it gleamed under a strange, unnatural light. Fancy dresses hung from the walls, delicate fabrics swaying as if moved by an invisible hand. Gold jewelry and sparkling gems were scattered across the floor, glinting in the dim light. Nova, a true fashionista, gasped. “All of this… for me?” Her eyes sparkled as she began picking up dresses, draping necklaces over her neck, and twirling in front of the cracked mirrors. But then… movement. A figure crawled across the floor, its head twisted completely backward, eyes locked on her with a grotesque, unnatural stare. Its limbs moved in jerky, unnatural motions, skin pale and glistening in the faint light. Nova’s scream tore through the room. She tried to back away, but it was too late. The figure lunged, and before she could react, thick golden chains shot from the ceiling, wrapping around her wrists and ankles. She was lifted off the floor, dangling helplessly as the chains held her suspended from the ceiling. Down in the basement, Leo and Finn noticed her absence after too long. Trembling, they crept back toward the first room. What they found made their stomachs turn. Nova hung from the ceiling, suspended by thick golden chains, swinging slightly as if the castle itself was taunting her. Her terrified eyes met theirs, but she could do nothing. Leo dropped his flashlight in horror, and Finn stumbled backward. “Oh… oh no… it’s… over…” The remaining friends in the basement heard the commotion and ran toward the room. Their eyes went wide in despair. Lila whispered, voice trembling, “It’s… it’s so over for us… we’re… we’re done…” And somewhere in the darkness above, a faint, cruel chuckle echoed—a promise that Blackthorn Castle was far from finished with them.
