‘Okay fellas, it’s decision time. We’re two years out from the Olympics and you two need to decide whether you’re going to go for it or not,’ stated our coach, as if he was talking about a walk down to the corner shop, not the pinnacle of sport on a world stage watched by billions of people.
Chad and I stared back at our coach, lost for words. ‘Really?’ we said in unison.
‘Yes. I’ve seen an awful lot of fighters in my time and I know that you’ve both got the potential to be world beaters. Chad, pound for pound you’re one of the best wrestlers I’ve seen for your age and Tommy, with your size and speed you’re a beast on the Judo mat. I think you should both go for it, but you need to absolutely commit 100% for the next two years.’
