Chapter Two: Lucian's Discovery

*The previous night according to Lucian*

Lucian and his wolf were on edge tonight for some reason. It was odd Destiny was taking so long to get home. She usually closes the bookstore early on Sunday's since no one ever shows up. Here it is, almost 7:30pm and she's still not home.

"Maybe something's wrong. She's never been this long." Finn said to Lucian.

"No. We would be able to feel if something was wrong. It's something else making us feel like this. What could it be?" Lucian asked his wolf through their mind link.

"Something's coming. I can almost feel it!"

"Calm down, Finn. I think I hear Destiny's car pulling up the driveway."

Lucian glanced out the window and was instantly relieved to see his baby sister waltz up to the pack house.

"Hey family! I'm home!" Destiny said as she hung her keys up on the rack.

"What the f**k, Destiny? You usually lock up early on Sunday's what took you...." Lucian stopped talking as soon as he took a whiff of what smelt like roses, vanilla, and fresh rain raced through his nostrils.

"SHE'S BEEN WITH OUR MATE! I CAN SMELL HER! I WANT HER! I NEED HER!" Finn began shouting in Lucian's head.

Lucian's eyes dilated and completely turned gold meaning his wolf was now in control. Destiny could see this and took a step back.

"What the hell is your problem?" Destiny said trying to remain confident.

"Where is she?!"

Destiny was confused. "Where's who, Lucian? What are you talking about?"

Lucian quickly approached Destiny gripping firmly on her arms almost shaking her.

"Who were you last talking to Destiny? I smell her on you. Don't make me use my Alpha command. I'm not in the mood."

Bowing her head, Destiny responded. "Her name is Valorie Herst. She just moved here." Her tone was calm. Calmer than she expected it to be with an angry Alpha breathing down on her.

Lucian released his grip and began pacing.

"Come on! Let's go find her. Let's go meet our mate. I bet she's beautiful with thick thighs and a nice.."

"Shut up Finn! Now is not the time. We have to focus. Oh my moon goddess. My mate is here. Finally my mate is here. Wait, what if she doesn't like me? No that can't happen. We're soulmates. But wait, she didn't smell like a wolf.

"Destiny?" Lucian said trying to gain her attention. Which was pretty easy since she was standing there watching Lucian act a mess.

"She's not a wolf, brother. But she's strong. I can sense it."

"I need to run. Do you know where she could possibly have moved into?" Lucian said struggling to hold his wolf in. His wolf wanted out and wanted to run in search of the beautiful woman who is his mate. The scent wasn't enough. Finn wanted more and Lucian did as well even though he wasn't ready to admit it.

"She didn't say where but it might be the tiny house on the edge of town that's been vacant for years. I don't know anywhere else around here that's allowing outsiders to move in."

"You're right. I'm going out for a run. Tell mom and dad if they ask. I'll be back later."

Lucian sprinted out the front door, reached the entrance of the forest, removed his clothes, and began to shift into his wolf.

When Lucian first shifted into his wolf form when he turned 16, it was extremely painful. Feeling all your bones being forcibly broken all over your body over and over again is not a pleasant experience. However, as time goes on, the more you shift, the more your body slowly gets used to the transformation. Lucian was a pro by now.

Racing through the woods, Lucian was in search of the cute little house near the edge of woods by the Stone Lake. He had heard stories about the house from his parents but never dared venture on his own. But now, he has a reason to go on this adventure.

Being the young Alpha of the Gold Stone pack, Lucian had many responsibilities. Overseeing the training of his warriors, checking inventory for the pack, and even arranging extravagant events when necessary. Those are just some of the tasks he faces on the daily. Some of those can be handed over to his Luna whenever he completes the mating process. Lucian was never really worried about finding his mate. His best friend and Beta to the pack Trevor, was lucky to find his mate not long after his first shift and told Lucian all about the process. Trevor was like Lucian before he found his mate. He was a player and a natural with the ladies. Mating was the last thing on his mind. However, when he met his mate Nikita, it all changed. Trevor explained the overwhelming feeling to protect her and always be around her. He described how their bond grew the more they interacted with each other. Trevor even mentioned the s*x was out of this world. Nothing compared to the other women he had been with. Lucian would just blow off the statement and focus on learning his Alpha duties.

Finally reaching the lake, Lucian peered down at his reflection in the water. He saw his bright golden eyes paired with his bright white fur. White fur for a wolf isn't as common as one would think. But the most rare color for a wolf is all black. It had been centuries since a black wolf had been seen in the area.

Lucian sat for a moment and took in the area around the lake. It was calming and peaceful to his wolf and himself. He lifts his snout into the air and smells the wind as it blows. That's when Lucian felt tingles all over his body and the intoxicating scent of his mate flew through the air. He knew she was near so lifted his head back and howled in celebration.

Quickly, Lucian ran through the woods to follow the scent of his mate when he stopped at the edge of the woods. Her scent was coming from the little house not too far from him. He noticed a silhouette of woman staring at him from her back porch. He wanted to run up to her and hold her but now was not the time.

"What are you waiting for?! Let's go! I wanna hold her. I wanna lick her! Come on Lucian! She's right there!" Finn begged Lucian to go to her but he couldn't.

"She's human, Finn. She wouldn't understand. Not yet, anyways. Give her time." Lucian replied to Finn in his head trying to calm him down. He heard Finn whimper but ignored it. The last thing Lucian wants right now is to scare away the one the moon goddess had picked out for him. He will be patient for now but hopefully once the bond starts, his mate will grow to understand.

Lucian took one last look at her trying to burn into memory the light gray eyes he could see through the darkness. He felt those eyes all the way into his soul. He howled one more time and took off back to the pack house.

"Trevor, extend patrol to the Stone Lake." Lucian mind linked his beta.

"What for? Everything okay, Luke?"

"Everything's perfect actually. Just please make sure someone patrols the lake. I'll explain when I get back to the pack house."

"Alrighty, Alpha. Consider it done."

"I can't wait for classes tomorrow. I'm finally going to meet my mate." Lucian said in his head.

"Um, excuse me. You mean OUR mate." Finn chimed in.

Lucian rolled his eyes and made it back to the pack house moments later. Destiny was in the living room watching something on the TV when she heard him walk in.

"Well?" Destiny asked propping her hands on her hips.

"Tell me everything you know. Is she nice? Does she have a cute laugh? What was she wearing? What's her major? What.."

"Hey calm down there big boy. One question at a time dude. You're gonna give me a headache." Destiny interrupted before Lucian could finish.

"Sorry Des. I'm just excited. Finn and I can't stop thinking about her. Her scent alone drives us wild. Oh! And she has the most hypnotic eyes I've ever seen. I didn't have to get that close to see how beautiful they are. Ugh. I never knew meeting your mate felt like this. I feel like a completely different person."

Destiny went over and gave Lucian a loving sibling hug. He returned the offer hugging her just as hard.

"I'm so happy for you, Luke. She's perfect for you. I can already tell. I'm meeting her tomorrow morning to give her the tour around campus. Since she's new, you know what's gonna be one of her classes on her schedule?"

Lucian looked at Destiny a little confused. He rubbed his chin in order to appear deep in thought. Truth be told, Lucian really didn't understand what his sister was trying to tell him.

"Oh jeez. It's not that hard. She's gonna be in that dumb history class that teaches us about the history of our family. You know, that one class you were avoiding taking since you know everything already."

Lucian grinned. "I knew I was avoiding that class for a reason. I gotta make some phone calls. I'll see ya in the morning."

He placed a sweet kiss on his sisters head and ran upstairs to his office.

"She's the same major as me by the way! Have fun with that big brother." Destiny tried to mumble the last part under her breath.

"I heard that!" Lucian shouted back.

It didn't take too long for Lucian to start dialing on his phone and making demands for some of the college employees to accomplish before tomorrow. He wanted a copy of his mate's schedule and any information he could get on her. It saddened Lucian to learn she had no family. He found that out when he asked for emergency contact information and she didn't have any. He told the staff member to make him her contact and his sister Destiny since they already seem close. Lucian made a mental note to himself to dig a little deeper on her family once he gets in contact with his beta again.

"Knock knock. Can I come in?" Trevor said from the entryway.

Lucian knew he was close since he could hear him walking down the hallway.

"Got two warriors now patrolling by the lake, Luke. But why the sudden change of patrol? There's no one over there." Trevor asked as he made himself comfortable in one of Lucian's office chairs.

"My mate lives in that house not too far from the lake." Lucian said with a grin.

"No f*****g way?!? Congrats man! What's she like?? How does she kiss??"

Lucian growled at Trevor warning him to stop all the questions.

"Whoa. I get it." He holds his hands up in the form of a surrender. "It's your business. Even though I shared everything with you when I met Nikita."

"She's human, Trev. I can't approach her like you did Nikita. This is gonna take some time."

Trevor let out a low whistle. "Think you can handle waiting?" He finished with a smirk.

"f**k you. Of course I can wait. Valorie's different. She's my mate. My special person the moon goddess hand picked for me. I'll wait as long as it takes for her."

"Aww. Look at you. Already a hopeful romantic and it hasn't even been a day. Just wait till the bond starts growing. And you're an Alpha matter of fact. You're emotions are way more stronger than mine were. Gonna be taking many cold showers my friend."

Trevor chuckled and stretched out from his seat.

"Don't tell anyone else about this. Not even my parents. I want to tell them myself once I finally talk to her tomorrow."

Trevor nodded and left the office leaving Lucian alone with just his thoughts of the gray eyed beauty he would soon call his own. He hasn't even heard her speak and he was already falling for her charms. Her scent alone was enough to drive him insane. The sweet intoxicated aroma of rain mixed with vanilla and roses plagued his mind but he was not complaining. He was ecstatic about these new feelings and emotions. He welcomed them filling his soul with warmth.

Lucian peeked over at the clock on the walk and noticed how late it had gotten. He had to get some rest because tomorrow was a huge day if not the most important day of his life. Everything had to be perfect.

Lucian shut his laptop and closed up his office for the night before heading towards his bedroom. He changed and drifted softly to sleep. He hoped to dream of his mate tonight but unfortunately he would be dreamless.

The alarm went off waking Lucian who had a huge smile plastered on his face. He rolled over on his bed and noticed Destiny leaning on his door way already dressed for the day.

"You better get moving. I'm meeting your mate in 15 minutes. Plus you also don't wanna be late on first day."

"Yeah, yeah. I'm moving. Here. Take this before you head out." Lucian got out of his bed and headed to one of his dressers to grab his wallet. "Breakfast is on me this morning. Get whatever you want and something sweet for my mate."

He handed Destiny his credit card with a joyful smile on his face. She quickly snatched the card from his hand and disappeared down the hall towards the front door of the pack house.

"Just breakfast Destiny! Not a shopping spree!" Lucian shouted to her as he heard her exit through the door.

"Check your bank statement tomorrow just in case." Finn advised.

"Agreed."

Lucian showered rather quickly and found himself searching through most of his drawers trying to find the right outfit. He tried to see if his closet had better options but he couldn't settle on anything. Finally he decided to on a simple pair of jean shorts, black V-neck t-shirt, and his favorite pair of black vans.

Lucian decided to grab a pop tart from the pantry before getting into his car and driving towards campus. The closer he got, the more butterflies he felt in his stomach. It didn't take long for him to find a decent parking spot that had a view of the coffee shop on campus. He noticed his sister talking to someone but their back was facing him. Lucian watched Destiny drag the chick around and finally face him.

He could hear Finn howl with joy. His mate was perfect. She had long black raven hair, curves and swerves in all the right places, and her smile could melt the ice caps. Lucian wanted to run to catch up to them but he promised himself he would give them time together because Destiny needs friends too.

After some time, Lucian decided it was time to head to class since he lost track of his mate and sister. Taking out his phone to text her, he felt someone bump into him and land with a slight thud. To his amazement, it was his mate.

"Oh boy, oh boy! Her scent! Let me at her!" Finn was struggling to contain his happiness.

"Calm down you dog. She's human remember. One step at a time." Lucian corrected his wolf.

"s**t! I'm so sorry. Let me help you." He says as he offers his hand to help her up. As soon as his hand touched hers, Lucian felt thousands of little tingles shoot through his body. It was a new sensation for him and he was thrilled.

"No, I'm sorry. I was too busy looking down at my schedule I didn't see where..." His mate stopped talking the moment her eyes met his. Her giant light gray eyes casted a spell on him and he was searching her eyes for any trace of the bond. For a moment, he felt it. He felt her trying to do the same to him and dig deeper through his eyes.

Lucian wanted to say something else to her as she was brushing herself off. But before he could even think of anything to say, she was darting off away from him.

"f**k! I gotta run. Sorry I ran into again!" His mate shouted back towards him as she left.

Lucian smiled and began to head the same way. Little did his mate know, they have a few classes together this semester. He made sure either himself, his beta, or his sister were always with her. Since she will one day be the future Luna of his pack, she needs to be protected. Everyone had enemies, even the Gold Stone pack.

Once Lucian entered the building, he decided to follow the scent of his mate to where he needed to go. Of course, going to school here for the past few years, he knows where he's going but following her scent brought a smile to his face he never wants to get rid of.

He entered the classroom and noticed some of his pack members bowing slightly to show respect when he noticed his black haired beauty sitting alone in the back. He smirked and headed towards the empty seat next to her.

"I didn't think I'd run into you again so soon." He said with a hint of mischief.

"Yeah, I'm really sorry about that. I'm a clumsy mess this morning." His mate says with a small smile.

Lucian couldn't help but laugh a little. "I was distracted myself. No reason to apologize. I'm Lucian by the way but my friends call me Luke."

"Valorie but I go by Val." She said with grin.

Lucian and Finn both howl inside their heads. "Val.... I like it. You must be new in town I take it?"

Val giggles. "Is it that obvious?"

"Just a little. Plus, I grew up here so I kinda know everyone that's worth knowing and this is the first time I've seen you."

"Well maybe I'm not worth knowing. Could have been hiding out in a cabin the middle of woods waiting for the right moment to rejoin humanity."

Both Lucian and Finn were not happy their mate thought so lowly of herself. Does she not know she's destined for greatness? Does she not know how much she means to them? Finn was on the verge of taking control making Lucians eyes change colors. Hopefully Val didn't see the inner struggle he was currently dealing with.

Focused on controlling Finn, Lucian hears Val clear her throat and immediately all attention is now on her. "So why are you taking this class? You look like a senior and have better things to do."

"I actually didn't want to take this class until I had to. Hence, taking it my last year. But since I've lived here my whole life, I know it's an easy A."

"Must be nice." Lucian heard Val try to mumble. Werewolves have excellent hearing so whispering or trying tell secrets wasn't something they were known to do.

"I could always help you out if you needed it." Lucian was trying to find any way possible to spend more time with his mate than just in class.

"Thank you. History was never my strong point."

Luke was about to ask Val something when he heard his name being called from the entrance of the classroom.

"Lukey!! Why didn't you wait for me?!"

Luke knew exactly who it was by the sound of her voice. Stacy...

Stacy was head over heels in love with Lucian only because he was the Alpha. If he had been any other wolf, she wouldn't have cared. Stacy wanted to be Luna and would do anything to get her way. Luke made the mistake a few months back at the beginning of summer by sleeping with her and now she won't leave him alone. Stacy would constantly call him and try to hangout but he wasn't interested. Even his wolf was upset he slept with a puck bunny like her.

Luke looked over down to Val to try to read her face but it was hard. He didn't like how she sank in her chair allowing this other woman to seem better than her.

"Why the f**k is Stacy in this class?!" Luke mind linked Trevor.

"I have no idea dude. Maybe she just followed you? You know how she is."

Luke was gonna tell Stacy to take a hike when his mate finally decided to speak.

"Here you go. You guys are obviously friends. I'll go sit in the corner."

Disappointed, Lucian watched his mate gather her things and move to the opposite side of the classroom. He wasn't going to have that. He was about to get up and move when the Professor finally arrived.

"I guess I'll have to wait till after class to talk you again, my little moon." Luke thought to himself as he pulled out his book and started to try to pay attention to the lesson.
