27 “I’m happy to help,” I said, careful to keep the smile on my face as Neil squinted at me. The entire camp seemed to have heard about my punching Emmet in the face. Some seemed offended, others impressed. From the whispers floating on the wind, most of the camp had also heard Emmet shouting at Liam when he was told I would be staying. I wished I had been there to hear Emmet shout and to hear Liam’s defense of my joining the Black Bloods. But the whole thing had been over before I’d trusted my face to look normal enough for people not to know I’d been crying. As far as I knew, Liam hadn’t told anyone what had happened in the woods.
