For the first hour, it was easy to make excuses for why Liam and Emmet hadn’t caught up to us. I made Finn stop in the trees by the glenn so I could scavenge for a few more supplies. They hadn’t come by the time I ran out of reasons to linger.
I looked behind as we took the road that headed west, but they still weren’t there.
When the storm came and lightning split the sky, I took comfort in the downpour. With the rain whipping across us, blurring the road and the towering trees surrounding us, they could have been riding just behind and we wouldn’t have seen them.
