CHAPTER NINE Ajax Kierkos is the name of the small Greek restaurant. It’s found a half-block north of the intersection of Curtis and Pine Grove. It’s a small stand-alone brick building atop a tall hill that has a great view of the confluence of the Brown and Little Brown Rivers. At night, winter or summer, when the city lights up, along with the barge traffic all lit up and moving slowly across the waters, it’s a sight to behold. The interior of the restaurant is definitely Greek in ambiance. Dark wood panel covers the brick walls. Hard wood floors. Soft lighting. Wide, thick candles with long flames burning quietly and set in the middle of each table. White linen tablecloths. Antique polished wood chairs.
