The Summer Ball

Slamming my door closed, I sank down and leaned my back against the door. Anger boiled up in me. Anger at myself for feeling weak, for not able to help my pack, at the Gamma and Luna who made me feel this way. Anger at how crappy my life had become and finally anger at denying my wolf her freedom. Sighing, I took some deep breaths and let the anger go. It would not help me in any way. Standing up, I went to get ready for the ball I was already late for. Arriving twenty minutes later, the ball was in full swing. The whole building was swarming with our pack and that of others. More than four hundred people lived in our pack and adding about another hundred guests made the football size ball room packed. I came in through a side door from the garden and stood slightly in awe. Everyone was wearing their best outfits, men were in full tuxedos and the women in full length gowns. Everything sparkled as if it was under starlight. Some of the pack glanced my way but when they realized who I was they quickly looked away. I did not care and just smiled. My first ball was not going to be ruined by anyone. Seeing the buffet table at the back of the room, I made my way there. Taking the path nearest the walls, so I can avoid people, no one even looked my way. Sighing, I ignored them as well. Reaching the drink section, I poured myself some punch. Someone had spiked it, or was it supposed to be filled with alcohol? I did not know, as this was my first time ever. I could not help the smile that was plastered on my face. This was so wonderful. “You look beautiful.” Jason’s voice whispered in my ear. I slightly jumped as I did not know he was there. All these people dampened my senses a little. “Thank you.” I said, slightly blushing at the compliment. I tried to hide it, so I would not give Jason the wrong impression. I never had a compliment from someone other than my dad. I looked down at my burgundy dress. It was plain and simple. A straight piece of fabric that barely reached the floor as I had grown taller since the last time I wore it. It had a single shoulder with a heart shaped neckline, and held onto my chest tightly but then flowed down starting at my hips. It was very simple compared to all the dresses here, but to me it was wonderful. “Care to dance?” Jason asked, extending a hand. I shook my head. “Sorry Jason, but I don’t dance.” A hint of anger flashed in his eyes but he quickly hid it with a smile. “That is fine my dear.” I frowned at the endearment, but let it go. Watching the party goers was fun for me. Everyone was laughing and having a good time. Jason stopped trying to talk to me and just stood by silently. Although his fists kept clenching and unclenching, along with his anger rising. “How about you find someone else to dance with?” I finally suggested. Jason’s eyes flashed yellow with his wolf. “I don’t want to dance with anyone else but you.” He said, trying to sound sweet but it came out with unbridled anger. Tightening my jaw, I did not respond and looked at the people again. Soon I was out of punch and had to refill it. Jason stuck by me like a puppy. Rolling my eyes, I ignored him still. I know it was cruel of me, the only person to ever really talk to me, but he just did not understand that I did not see him that way. After filling up my cup, I went back to the corner I had claimed. A loud bang silenced the whole room. Fear ran down my spine as I thought about that rogue, but the bang had come from a staff striking the stairs. We all turned our eyes to the man at the top of the stairs. From the power he radiated, I knew this to be the Beta or second in charge of our pack. “Ladies and gentlemen of Blue Moon pack and esteemed guests. I present to you Alpha Dante and Luna Vanessa.” Beta announced. From behind him walked forward the couple. The Beta moved to the side and the couple stepped forward. Standing for a moment they looked down at the crowd. They scanned the crowd and then smiled at each other. My heart stopped. This was the first time I was seeing Alpha and he was gorgeous. My wolf howled in my head. 'Mate.' No, it couldn’t be. Vanessa was his mate. Panicking, my breathing came in shallow gasps, my head swimming. “Are you ok?” Jason asked, coming to grab my upper arm. I could not focus on anything but him. My mate. As the couple started to descend the stairs, I saw his eyes glance my way. Our eyes met and I saw him falter a step. Vanessa looked where Dante looked and saw me. Anger flashed in her eyes for a second and then she touched my mates arm. I verbally growled, which caused some nearby pack members to turn to me. “Darling, what is wrong?” Jason cooed as he started pulling me back. The Alpha pulled away slightly from Vanessa as he saw Jason holding onto me. Vanessa touched her necklace and whispered something in his ear. A weird look overcame my mate and he turned from me to Vanessa. Kissing her slightly, they made their way down the stairs. My wolf howled in my head, wanting to get to him but my world still swam. “Come with me, something is not right.” Jason whispered in my ear. I could not make sense of my world at the moment. Everything started spinning and soon the walls blurred together. Someone, probably Jason, was pulling me along with a vice like grip. I fell onto a bed and watched the ceiling swirl around. “How are you feeling my dear?” I heard Jason’s voice somewhere near my feet. I tried to look for him, to ask him for some help but I could hardly move. “What?” I tried to say but it came out all slurred. “Hmmm,” he said as I felt a tug on my dress. “The medicine I slipped into your drink is working just fine. We don’t have long, so I am going to make this quick.” Jason came into view on top of me and I felt his weight. He tried to kiss me but I was paralyzed. “This is not how I imagined our first time, but you did not leave me a choice.” Jason said as I felt him touch my breasts. He looked into my eyes and smiled darkly. “Time for some fun.” He murmured into my ear as he ripped my dress open. Silent tears left my eyes as Jason had his way with my body. My wolf cried out for our mate to save us, I cried out mentally. No one answered. After Jason was done, he got up and I heard a glass being poured. I tried to move, but only a small twitch in my hands signaled the medicine wearing off. The clink of the glass being put down sent a chill up my spine. Jason came back into my line of vision, a satisfied smirk on his face. “Since we still have some time left, let's go for round two.” Jason said as he started pawing at my chest and between my legs. Tears started streaming down again as I felt all of it. Halfway through, I was able to finally move some more. Waiting just a minute more, my body was burning through the medicine fast now. Jason moaned into my ear, saying my name. I reached up and bit his ear. Screaming in pain he pulled away from me. “You bitch.” He yelled, but I already was punching him with a solid right hook. Jason fell sideways off the bed. I struggled to sit up, but adrenaline rushed through my veins. With my wolf howling at me to move, I managed to stumble to the door. Jason groaned from the floor, but I did not give him a second thought. Throwing open the door I started to run. I did not know where I was going, but I just needed to escape. Music and voices started to come from ahead of me. The ballroom was straight ahead, but I could not be seen like this. Seeing an emergency exit to my left, I threw off my heels, bundled my dress so it covered me slightly, and ran. I was on the left side of the garden. The woods were only a few hundred yards in front of me. My escape. Sprinting, I tried to clear my head of the medicine Jason used. Whatever it was, it still made my head foggy and my limbs did not move correctly. A door slammed from behind me and I heard Jason yell my name. Putting on some extra speed, I pushed through the undergrowth into the woods. Pain blossomed from my right and I was thrown to the left into a tree. Dizzy, hurt, and growling I looked at my attacker. Jason stood above me with a sickening grin as he racked his eyes over his prize. I started to feel blood seep down my back from where he hit me. “Well,” he rubbed his chin where I had struck him, “I should have expected you to fight. You are a great warrior.” Chuckling, he walked towards me. I shifted my weight under me, ready to spring away or hit him. “What is going on here?” A surprised voice called out. Jason and I froze then looked at the new person. April stood there in her long green dress with her eyes wide and clear shock etched into her face. She looked from Jason, who was only wearing unbuttoned pants, to me in my torn dress. April turned on Jason and growled at him. “What do you think you are doing?” She shrieked at him. “What I told him to do.” Vanessa’s voice came from behind April. April started to turn, but Vanessa grabbed her neck and snapped it. April’s face was still one of shock and anger as she hit the ground dead. I looked into Vanessa’s eyes as she grinned an evil grin at me.
