I hated that they were right that I was in love with Damian, which was why I I couldn't take Damian to the authorities even after he confessed that he destroyed my company and forged those damaging documents. I hated that I was being pathetic because I wanted to protect him from attempts that would be made on his life after our divorce.
I hated that I had to still honour the last dying wish of a man I considered to be my father, just to lose myself in the process with how wicked his son was. I had dinner and slept a few hours later, until I woke up to a sharp sensation in my abdomen.
"Ahhhh!" I almost screamed in pain. I moved on the bed, and all I could feel was wetness. Warm wetness that didn't come from urine or sweat, but something that smelled metallic— blood.
My hand went down between my legs, and when I pulled it back, the fingers were red. Blood. There was so much blood.
"No."
I sat up too fast and the pain ripped through my abdomen, nothing like the cramps I always had. The sheets were soaked. My nightgown was soaked. The baby. Oh God, the baby.
"Damian!"
I swung my legs over the side of the bed, ignoring the cold floor against my bare feet. I stood up and immediately grabbed the bedpost to keep from falling.
"Damian, please!"
His door opened at the end of the hall, and he stepped out shirtless, with his messy hair as he squinted against the light. Behind him, I saw Rosalie's blonde head on his pillow. Of course, she would be, but I didn't dwell on that, the pain wouldn't let me.
"What?" His voice was thick with sleep and annoyance. "It's three in the afternoon, Elena."
"Something's wrong. I'm bleeding. I need to go to the hospital." My eyes was wide with alarm, but it did nothing to him. He stood there like he wasn't fazed and he didn't care. "Damian, please.. I know we've had our differences... But please... I need you now. I need the hospital now. The baby," I paused. I never even told him I got pregnant after our drunk one-night-stand in the guest room six weeks ago. "I'm pregnant, Damian, please. With your child."
His eyes darkened imperceptibly, and his entire body stiffened. Rosalie, whose eyes were closed earlier, sat up in shock.
"You slept with her?" The shock in her voice made Damian's face tighten.
"I did not." He spoke through gritted teeth. "She probably cheated, got pregnant, tried to abort and pretend like it belongs to me so she can gain my sympathy. How pathetic!" He said coldly, making his way towards me until he could see the thick blood that was pooling down my legs.
"Damian, I really am..." I was trying to explain to him that I didn't care what he thought, and I only needed emergency medical attention right now, but he cut me off cruelly.
"Get back to your room." His voice was cold.
"What?" I couldn't comprehend his words immediately.
"I said get back to your room. You're making a mess on the floor, and it is nauseating to watch."
My legs were shaking and I had to lean against the wall for support. "Damian, I'm losing the baby. Please. Just call an ambulance if you don't want to take me to the hospital."
"You're not losing anything, Elena. You're being dramatic."
"I'm bleeding!"
"Bleeding from cutting up yourself?" He scoffed. "You're always doing one thing or the other. If it isn't crying and looking for attention, it would be sabotaging companies." He grabbed my arm so tighty that I knew it was going to leave a bruise. "Go clean yourself up. I don't want this spreading to the carpet."
"Let go of me."
"Stop fighting and get the hell back into your room."
I tried to pull away from him, and in that moment, my foot slipped on my blood on the marble tiles, and Damian had already released his hands from my shoulders, and I fell head first down the stairs. Even as I was going in and out of consciousness, I could still hear their voices from above me.
"Do you think we should call the ambulance?" That was Rosaline asking, I was certain.
"No, let her deal with it." Damian's cold voice came. "I don't want her infecting us with whatever she has going on with her."
*
I woke up slowly, and I could tell at once that I was in the hospital. My heart lurched forward with the hope that Damian had changed his mind and came to save me. I tried to lift my head up and—
"Be careful, it has been bandaged." My heart dropped when I recognised the voice. "You have a slight concussion also." It was Michael, Damian's best friend, and the man who actually made it known that he cares about me.
"Damian?" I managed to mutter.
"He's not here, Elena..." Michael said softly, his brows pulled together in a deep frown. "I came over to see Damian, and he wasn't around. I found you on the ground instead. And you were unconscious too. What happened, Elena?"
A single tear rolled down from my eye. I couldn't tell him... He wouldn't understand. No matter how much I would try to explain, he wouldn't. Before I could respond and tell him to forget about it, the door to the ward opened, and a man in a ward coat entered the room.
"Miss Elena? I'm glad you are awake." He had a grim expression on her face as he took careful strides until he was at the foot of my bed. "How are you feeling? We have something that needs to be discussed." He said quietly. "Are you okay with this conversation?"
Elena nodded, feeling the slight swell of fear in her heart. What was going on? Was she sick? Did she lose the child? "Yes, I am."
"It seems you were trying to abort your child with the pills," he said quietly, "but there are other safer methods we could use instead of that. This method is extremely cruel and—"
"What the f**k did you just say?" I didn't even care about my tone or language, I was stunned. "Abort my own child? Why would I even do that?"
Wait! No, no no... It couldn't be. It was like a bucket of cold water was poured over me when my mind began its suspicion.
