New beginning

Daniel looked through the information given to him. “I already know all this. Does this look like anything special?” He flung the papers away, irritated. “I know that sir,” his secretary, a female, bowed deferentially, “but that was all I could find which is very strange, sir.” That got Daniel interested. “What do you mean?” He stretched out his legs on the comfy rug, his gaze flitting between his phone and his secretary. “I couldn’t find anything on her childhood, her parents, where she lived… Basically, I was unable to find any information prior to when she began working at the hospital.” Daniel listened aptly. “Then I tried finding out where she went to after leaving your house, but that also proved difficult but with some help, I was able to find out some things. She was picked up right at your gate, in an expensive car, then was dropped at a house in Beverly Hills. My surveillance team reported that the house was being watched and just some minutes ago, it looked like it was attacked, but some other men intervened and now there are men in hidden corners watching over the house.” Daniel tried to digest the information he was given. Wendy? What was with the secrecy? “Did you find anything else?” “No, sir, that was all I could find.” Daniel nodded, lost in thought. “You may leave,” he waved her off. Despite the information he had gathered, he was still a bit perplexed as to who she was. She definitely was not the simple person he thought her to be. Some minutes later, with him already dozing off in the air-conditioned room, his secretary rushed in again. “Sir!” She exclaimed in a frenzy, snatching up the TV remote and turning the TV on. “What’s going on?” Daniel questioned with barely concealed irritation. “Wendy,” she stammered out, changing channels, “she’s on TV… I saw her… she…” Daniel sprang up when another channel came up and Wendy’s face loomed on the screen. She was surrounded by reporters, all pushing microphones in her face, with stone faced bodyguards preventing them from getting too close. He was in awe. “That is the house, sir, that is the house I saw her enter,” his secretary was saying. She was indeed standing in front of an elegant structure that he was sure cost a good fortune. She looked so different; beautiful, classy, smarter; much different than the Wendy he married. “I am Wendy Williams,” she was saying with a small smile, “the second child of Paul and Barbara Williams, the founder of Rose group of companies.” Daniel’s mouth fell open. “And the only daughter. My parents willed the companies to me shortly before their tragic death, and so I am here to take back what is rightfully mine. I am the major shareholder and the new CEO of Rose group of companies. I know that we have depreciated in the last couple of years, but under my lead, I can assure you that I will restore Rose group of companies to its original glory and even higher.” “Why are you coming out now to say this? What is your agenda?” a reporter queried. Wendy smiled, one that drew even more curiosity. “Because there have been threats against my life. I want to let them know that I am aware of all their evil deeds, and so is the world.” “Who do you speak of?” “I prefer to keep their identities secret presently.” “Do you mean to say your life is under threat, Wendy Williams? You should speak out, so the perpetrators can be punished by law.” “Once I have enough evidence, I will naturally report them to the police. I will also provide evidence on my parent's death.” “Your parent's death wasn’t an accident as reported?” The reporters were getting excited with the information they were getting. This was bound to get them raves afterward. “Do not believe all things as they come,” Wendy replied simply. “What are your plans now? What do you plan to do with Rose group of companies?” Daniel tried hard to digest what he was hearing. * “The cursed child!” Mark vented, smashing a flower vase, “how dare she accused us so openly!” Gabe glared at his niece, who was still speaking calmly to the reporters. “You were the one who sent those flimsy assassins after her. They couldn’t even do a simple job!” Mark accused. “Be calm,” Gabe chastised, switching off the TV in annoyance, “this is not the time to start throwing blames.” Mark fumed, but kept silent nevertheless. He instead smashed another vase. “We can’t do anything to her now,” Gabe spoke, “the Police will begin to investigate, and we must be careful to hide our tracks. She planned all these.” Mark ran a hand through his hair, “do you think she’ll really find evidence about Paul and Barbara’s deaths?” Gabe snorted, “it’s impossible. She’s just blowing a trumpet to get us anxious. Just stay calm, we will get our chance later.” * “You did great.” Leo hugged Wendy when she returned to the house after speaking to the reporters. “I think this is going to work well. I’m sure they’re peeing their pants now,” she laughed, going off to the bar. “It definitely will, but you still have to keep your head low. Don’t show all your cards. This is a dangerous game we’re playing.” Wendy nodded, filling two glasses with ice cubes, then with beer. “Cheers,” she beamed at their brother as they clinked glasses. She took a sip and sighed satisfactorily. “What about the other shareholders?” She asked after a second sip. Leo leaned against the marble counter. “Leave them. Pretend like you know nothing of their devious deeds. There are more secrets to unveil, and we can’t do that if they are our enemies.” Wendy nodded with a smile. She raised her glass to her lips. Here’s to a new beginning, Wendy, a new you, she thought.
