The 4th Division headquarters at Camp Baharia sat three miles from the headquarters of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Fallujah in the center of the Division’s area of operation. The convenient location facilitated the Division’s mission of mentoring the Iraqi Security Forces and providing security for the civil affairs teams, contractors, and government workers.
Built by the British at the end of World War I, Camp Baharia used many of the buildings that housed the Iraqi Army prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.
