Alex's pov
"Miss, we're back." Lucien's voice jolted me out of my sleep. "Mmh." I mumbled and got out of the car. I silently followed him into my room and watched him close the door behind us. Lucien took out a device and scanned all the walls and ceiling before setting it down on my desk and turning to me. "We're safe now." He finally spoke. "Go ahead, what'd you find?" I immediately asked. He took out a file and handed it over to me. "Remember the family meeting you had about the DeLeons? I couldn't find anything on any of them, except for one particular member. It seems her file had been leaked." he explained. I opened the file and frowned. "Camila DeLeon? Are you sure?" I asked him. "Yes, affirmative. I believe they sent her to crash your parents' car, only she didn't survive it as well." Lucien said. "Serve that woman right. Killing my parents?" I shook my head. "But..that's my schoolmate's mother." I realized. Camila was Valentina's mother, apparently deceased. So we shared one thing in common - only her mother was the cause of mine's death. "Miss?" he shook me out of my thoughts. "Yes. Thank you for this. Who else knows?" I asked. "Only you." he answered. "Good, keep it that way." I said. I decided to stay here and not go back to the campus today. What was the point? Getting riled up about every single thing again? I heaved a big sigh and plopped down on my bed ungracefully, deciding to get some sleep.
James's pov
Is she for real right now? Leaving Amber alone in the dorm? I inched closer to the door. My heart lurched when I heard sobs coming from inside. Was Amber okay? And here I thought Alex cared about her. Or..maybe Alex just wanted to have a fling with her like she did with so many other people? No..she's one of my closest friends. She wouldn't do that. I shook my head. No way. "What are you doing here?" I whirled around to see Zach grinning at me. "Go away, haven't you done enough?" I said, scowling. "Me? Enough? Oh darling, I've barely started. I'm going to wreck havoc in your little kingdom here." he said, smirking. "One, don't call me darling. Two, this isn't my kingdom." I said firmly. "Right, right. It's Specter's kingdom. You just follow her around like a little puppy." he edged me on, but ducked when I took a swing at him. "We're no different, see? Going after that boy's sister, having violent tendencies? Hmm, sounds like you and me both." Zach said, laughing. I inhaled sharply and slowly let the air out, calming myself. "No, you're wrong. I'm not you." I said, turning on my heel and walking down the hallway, hearing his laughter echo behind me.
Am I crazy for having a crush on Amber? I've only ever seen her like, twice. But heart fluttering is a symptom of having a crush, right? I don't know, I just feel drawn to her. I need to get to know her myself. Why is Zach so annoying, though? Ugh, just the thought of him made me roll my eyes in annoyance. Whatever.
The next day..
Alex's pov
Ringg! My phone woke me with a start as I almost rolled off the bed. 'This feels like home..oh wait. It IS home.' I realized. I picked up my phone only to hold it at arm's length. "Where are you?? Class is starting soon. Or have you forgotten school exists?" James yelled into the phone. "Ugh..since when do you care if I turn up for class?" I asked him, more perplexed than annoyed. "Uh, since never. But get this, Zach, Valentina and Amber are in this class as well! I think they exchanged another class for this one or something." He rambled on and I just left it on, getting changed and freshening up. "Hello? Are you still there? Can you hear me?" James yelled. "Yeah yeah cool, they're in our class. Leave me alone and go to class." I yelled back, half muffled by the toothpaste in my mouth. "Urgh." I sighed. I discarded my night clothes and quickly changed into a cooler fit. Cooler, as in full black with accessories. "Lucien? Lucien!" I called, walking down the stairs. "Oh, hi." I paused, looking at the counter. "Did you just..make breakfast?" I asked Lucien, who was sitting at the counter waiting for me, with a few plates in front of him, covered. "Morning miss, no I did not cook, I simply ordered what I remember you liked about a year ago," he explained. I shrugged and scarfed down the bacon and egg in front of me, before walking to the car and getting in.
We reached the entrance and I calmly walked onto campus and into my class, ignoring the angry lecturer's glares directed at me. I scanned the crowd until I found Amber and smirked, walking up and taking the seat next to her. James gave me an odd look but I brushed it off. I flipped off Zach and turned to Valentina's direction. While maintaining eye contact, I raised my thumb and slowly drew a line across my neck. She could interpret that however she wants. I sat through the rest of the lecture without anything going into my head, then I went straight to my dorm and isolated myself from the world, ignoring Amber's concerned looks as well.
