THE SCENERY OUTSIDE HER window was breathtaking. Acres and acres of virgin forests and brush lined either side of the highway. The Belize River flowed up ahead, its pristine waters kept back by the construction of a thick sea wall.
Erik had the air conditioning on, but Nelly could almost smell the refreshing scent of the water and the wind as they cruised along. Ah… it was good to be young and free.
She glanced over at her friend who drove with laser focus. His fingers were pasted to the steering wheel as if he’d glued them on. The fierce expression on his face was more fitting for a spy running from the law rather than a*****e manager attending his cousin’s wedding.
“What is it?” Erik asked, noticing her perusal.
“I’m supposed to ask you that. You look deep in thought.”
