Collateral Damage

He let out a deep sigh "Those were not men per se, they were Satyrs. A combination of both man and goat, they only appear human because of a magic spell. It would have worn off by now anyway, since they are dead…" she flinched at the word dead, he paused and took in another deep breath “There is a lot you don't yet know. I do not even know where to start. There is a lot hidden from humanity, that the human world has yet to discover." She was looking at him like he was speaking a foreign language. He sifted a hand through his hair, "I did not want to drag you into this chaos, I was just supposed to deliver the money to you, get the statement, and return back. What could I have done when you were being attacked? In my world, you either disarm a threat or you would be preyed upon." "Who is after me? What have I done wrong?" she queried. "It is not you that they want, you are probably supposed to be collateral damage. Like a bait to draw out Candice," he tried to explain. "Who are they? What do they want from Candice? Is she being kept somewhere? Are you sure she is safe? What the hell is going on?" she unleashed a multitude of questions. "Believe me when I say she is safe. She told me to tell you this 'Don't forget to brush your teeth'" he relayed the words to her. Her eyes welled with tears at those words and she put her face in her hands and wept. Her shoulders shook, her chest heaved as deep sorrow poured out in her tears. It seemed that she had been barely holding herself back, his words had let loose the floodgates. He walked over to her and put a hand on her back "Why do you wail so helplessly? Your friend is not dead, she is very much alive and in the company of my lord Alpha," he soothed her. "Your lord Alpha?" she asked, looking up from her hands. "Yes, he is king and Alpha of my plane," he affirmed. "What do you mean by plane? Why hasn't she called me? The Candice I know would not just disappear on me," she sniffed. "That was why I was sent here to you. I cannot disclose everything to you right now, but you will come to understand everything in time. Just trust me," he assured her. "Does she eat three square meals? How are her living conditions? Oh God, it's all my fault. I should not have sent her out for that meet-up," She wiped at her tears. At that, Rojan gave her a smug look. "This is barely a downplay compared to what my Lord Alpha owns," he stated proudly. She nodded slowly, "This your Lord Alpha, where is he keeping my friend and what does he do for a living?" A smirk turned up his lips as he withdrew from her and walked towards the dining section, on the table sat an old fax machine. He pulled out one of the chairs and took a seat, drawing the machine close to him, he began to type fluidly. This machine was a magical antique Wayne had given him to send messages to his office in their realm, in case of an emergency and he needed to contact him urgently. He could easily travel back to Plane Woede, but he could not leave Bernice here nor could he bring her along with him until he was given instructions to do so. After clicking the send button, he rose from the chair and walked over to the fridge. Opening the stainless-steel double door of the thermocool fridge, he scanned the provisions. There was not much groceries in the house, he rarely went shopping whenever he was around and the staff, he employed to tidy up the place once in a week rarely kept their hands off his food. She seemed exhausted and he doubted she had dinner before the night's event. As an amortal, he could go days without food and he would be fine, but he doubted a human could last a night on an empty stomach. "Care for a cereal and soda?" he offered, perusing the empty contents of his fridge. "Weird combination," she murmured. "But I'm hungry, I just got back from work and I haven't had dinner yet." Rojan grabbed a soda from the fridge, opening the overhead cabinet in the kitchen, he pulled out a sealed carton of chocolate crunches and brought it over to her. She collected the offering and hastily tore open the chocolate crunch seal, used her finger to make a hole in the plastic bag, and emptied the contents into her mouth. Crunching down on the cereal, she popped open the soda cap and took a long deep swig at it. "Who knew this would be delicious?" she exclaimed, going for another round. 'I am content to see you enjoy it. Now when you are done, there are four bedrooms in this house. I would put up in the master's bedroom, which is the right door on the second floor, you can find whichever suits you among the three others and put up for the night. I will see you in the morning. There is a lot I need to tell you about." He said, rising to his feet. "Can I get anything to sleep in?" she said with a mouthful. "Unfortunately, there are no female wears available," he replied. "Not even that of your girlfriend?" she teased. "I practice celibacy till the day I unite with my fated mate," he announced, grabbing the suitcase. She stilled in shock. "You what?" "I will leave a pajama from my wardrobe next door on the second floor. You may burrow it," he declared, then turned to leave. "Wait!" Bernice yelled. "What?" he demanded, turning back to her. "Repeat what you just said," she said.
