Candice smoothed down the white floral dress she was wearing.
Adjusting the ribbon that held her thick mass of blond hair in a ponytail, she fidgeted with the paper and pen in her hands, biting hard on the rubber cap of the blue ink pen.
The last three days were a roller coaster of events. Waking up in a stranger's bed in an alternate universe had been the beginning of her woes. She had been constantly insulted, and mocked, and was about to be fought over by otherworldly creatures she didn't know existed. She was now a target for some vengeful enemies she never knew she had, who wanted to capture and enslave her from no fault of hers, all because of some sort of universe-binding matehood.
Her world had completely changed in a matter of days.
Things were finally looking up for her at least. In her hands, she held the key to her future. Wayne had given her the liberty to draft the contract according to the terms and conditions she preferred. He would only go over it with her and sign.
His only condition was it had to be six months, no less or he would not honor the deal. She had agreed, after which he had assigned a house staff to her. The lady was to be on her every beck and call and provide her with all her needs.
Everette her new staff had shown her to a new room, though it was a little smaller than Wayne's master bedroom. It was still beautifully furnished, elegant new clothes adorned her wardrobe with feminine accessories. She was provided all she needed to be comfortable to settle in.
Now sitting down in a swing chair on the balcony overseeing the seashore, she was full of nerves. Her mind wrestled with the decision she had made. Did she really want to do this? Could she trust him to keep his word? What if he didn't have that amount of money to give her, would she have wasted her time? Was there an underlying reason behind his request for the six months?
A soft knock sounded on her door, then the door cracked open and Everette worked in.
"Sorry to disturb you milady, but the Alpha requests your audience. He requests you bring along the document and join him in his office," she reported.
By document, he meant the contract. Candice knew he would ask for it soon, so she had used the two days provided to carefully draft it out.
"Lead the way," she replied standing up to her feet.
Everette led her into the corridor, then they proceeded to take two flights of stairs before arriving at an ebony black double door. She pulled open the door and ushered Candice in, immediately stepping out and shutting the door closed behind her.
The room was large and very spacious, there was a huge mahogany work desk to the far end of the room, office chairs sat at both sides, and a large white sofa was kept in another corner with an aquarium embedded into the wall at another end. The view here too was excellent as a large balcony spotted an extension, giving the view of the seashore. This office was directly above her room, they shared the exact same views. Except he was from a higher elevation.
Standing outside the balcony in all his glory, was a more gorgeous man than the seashore. He was wearing white long sleeves with white pants. His hands were casually tucked in his pockets as the breeze played with his locks, making them dance in the wind. Those cowries made him fit into the scene like a landscape, she wished she had her phone on her, she would have taken a picture of him, like this.
Her heart skipped at the wild thought. She shook her head to clear it.
Sensing her presence, he turned slowly and she saw his eyes briefly widen as he appraised her from head to toe. His face quickly returned to its impassive form, closing off any expression.
She tried to take two steps toward him, only for her flip-flops to get caught on the fur carpet, and the next thing she knew, she was flying across the room, her hands flailing in the air. She tried to grasp at anything but nothing was on her path as she felt herself descending to the floor.
How embarrassing, to fall dramatically to the floor at this moment, in front of him.
Just before her body hit the floor, just as she blinked, he was beside her in an instant, catching her in his arms.
Damn, he moved so fast. The speed of lightning.
The feel of his arms around her was soothing, as she felt his warmth sip into her body, his scent teased her nostrils and intoxicated her. He had a woodsy scent mixed with some honey notes, and a very alluring hedonic sensation washed over her. Like she was being drawn to him in an intense manner, an appeal she could not resist.
Candice's lips parted as hot breaths left her, drying up her lips. She dipped her tongue to her bottom lip to wet it. His eyes followed her tongue movements and finally locked on her lips as his gaze narrowed. For a brief instant, she saw a flicker of blue glint in his eyes, but it immediately disappeared and he quickly set her straight on her feet and stepped back from her.
"I see you have freshened up," he said as he went to take his seat behind the desk.
"Yes, I have. Everette has been very helpful," she replied.
She felt her face heat up with shame as her reaction to him had been so obvious. Had he felt anything at all? Did he also feel the seducing effect he had over her? Was he drawn to her like she was drawn to him?
"Do you have the contract?" he demanded.
Oh great, he obviously wasn't feeling anything. What did she expect?
Candice swallowed and handed him the contract, time for pleasantries was over. Let's get right on to business.
Wayne held the contract and read through it. It read thus:
1. Mr. Wayne Wyatt will keep to his promise to pay her (Candice Bretford) the sum of fifty million US dollars or its equivalent in gold when I have completed the period of six months with him.
2. Twenty-five percent will be paid to her first and the rest will be provided at the end of the six-month's duration.
3. She will be granted access occasionally to visit her own plane.
4. Mr. Wayne Wyatt will protect Miss Candice from all forms of harm from his enemies and himself inclusive.
"How impressive. Short and direct to the point." He mused.
She straightened her shoulders "I like to keep things simple."
"Exactly how I like it," he said, then added, "Number four intrigues me though. Are you afraid of me Candice?"
Candice bit her lower lip "You are a dangerous man. I have seen you kill without a thought before. What's to make me believe it won't be my head that's falling to the ground one day?"
He stared at her for long quiet seconds, then said slowly "There are far more dangerous things I want to do to you and with your body. Me killing you should be the least of your worries."
Candice's face reddened; his words dripped of untold perverse pleasures. He was openly declaring that he intended to do sinful things to her, but what scared her the most was why her body did not protest against it. Instead, her toes coiled in anticipation.
For heaven's sake, what was wrong with her?
She cleared her throat "What if I refuse? Will you force yourself on me?"
A smirk turned up his lips "I will not do anything to you that you do not want."
How confident. He must think she was easy considering how her body was responding to him, she would not let him have his way with her. Everything would be over in six months; she would fight this attraction to the very end.
"I agree to everything you have written here, except that we may need to add a last clause stating that you would play your role as Luna for the duration of the contract," Wayne muttered as a sly smile spread across his lips.
Role play? Sure. She was no actress, but she could certainly perform a make-believe. How hard could it be?
Why did she get the feeling she was being cornered? He seemed to be enjoying a silent joke alone and she felt as though she was the object of his humor. Something felt off, but she could not put a finger on it. Whatever it was, she could only fight one battle at a time.
"Fine, include the last clause," she permitted.
He nodded and scribbled down the fifth clause in the contract, after which he signed and gave it to her to sign.
As she signed her signature, she saw him pull out a jack-knife from his waistband, one she hadn't noticed before. He put the pointed edge to the tip of his thumb and pressed, blood pulled on his finger. He retrieved the contract from her and pressed the blood on the paper beside his signature as a seal.
"I understand signatures are enough binds on a contract in your world. However, in my world blood seals are more binding and eternal," he explained as he handed the contract back to her.
She looked from him to the knife and then to the contract.
"You do not expect me to-" she began to say.
"I expect you to." He said handing her the knife.
