The Confrontation

That was close. Wayne thought to himself. if he had been a few minutes late, she would have been taken from him. Damn it! He cursed inwardly; someone would pay dearly for this. A few days ago, after he had signed the contract with his mate, he had focused on other matters like visiting the Earth plane's department of astronomy to see if he could find anything on the next occurrence of the Lunar eclipse. He thought everything was under control since he had put Everette in charge of her daily dealings, the house was heavily guarded. They were all instructed to always be on alert and never allow her to leave the house alone. He and Rojan had traveled the entire earth within these few days, so they could independently find more information. He had just recently returned this evening. Since he had not traveled alone, he had made use of the official portal in the city's center. Arriving home, he had undressed quickly, removing his wet shirt and shoes. With the heavy rain, smells were difficult to distinguish so he did not bother checking in on her. She was after all safe and was being watched over every minute. Only for the runes on his back to begin to sear and burn, indicating an intruder was opening his private portal. He was the only one who had access to enter or leave that portal, if someone got close to opening the portal, the runes on his back gave a burning sensation to alert him of an intruder. Wayne quickly grabbed his silver sword from his closet and dropped down the twenty feet from his balcony, racing over to the portal. Just as he arrived, he saw that his mate was halfway being pulled away through his portal by a siren. Sirens were female creatures, half bird and half woman with alluring voices, their power rested in their melodious voices. They could vocally make one fall under their spell and persuade them to do their bidding. Usually, they used dreams or hallucinations as a means to lure the individual out of consciousness so they would let down their guard. Only weaklings would fall under the spell of a siren, he was no weakling. Such couldn't be said for his fragile little human mate, who was now following him silently as they walked back to the house. Instead of following the front entrance of the house, he took them directly to the spot just under his balcony. Tucking the severed arm under his armpit, he shifted his sword to his left hand and motioned for her to come to him. He saw her hesitate, staring uneasily at the severed arm. Then, as if making up her mind, she took a deep breath and walked into his embrace. He looped his right hand around her waist and molded her to him, bending his knees slightly, he propelled them with a giant leap into the pavement of his balcony. She gasped at the sudden elevated jump, her eyes budging. When he let her go, she staggered a little then righted herself. Tossing the hand aside to a corner, he walked into his room dripping wet from head to toe, soaking the floor. He could see her shiver slightly; her body had been ice-cold when he had held her to himself. She was wearing nothing except for the paper-thin, silk nightgown that clung to her body. He could see her taught n*****s poker against it, the fine definition of her slender waist, and the expanse of her hips. Just between her legs, was a darker shade of thick blond curls. He could remember how it had felt against him that first night with her…. Wayne shook his head to clear away those distracting thoughts, he had more important things to take care of. Going to his closet, he pulled out a thick white cardigan. "Wear this," he handed it over to her. She collected it silently and began to wear it quickly. It would be some sort of miracle if she did not come down with a cold, the next day. "Stay here," he commanded and exited the room, carrying his sword with him. "Everette!" he yelled as he walked into the corridor and down the flight of stairs. He had come so close to losing his mate this very night and someone would have to pay for it. Everything he had worked so hard for would have varnished before his eyes due to someone's neglect. Anger boiled over in his veins. Someone was going to pay. "Everette!" he repeated coming to stand in the middle of his living room. The two sentinels by the front door rushed in, Rojan appeared from a bedroom by the corner, and the other house staff gasped and hid away as the tension filled the air. Then slowly Everette emerged and she came to stand before him. "Where have you been?" he thundered at her. "I was asleep my lord Alpha," she replied shakily. "Did I not instruct you to be by my Luna every minute? You were never to leave her side unattended?" he questioned. "She was about to go to bed when I left her. I was- I did not mean to-" "Get on your knees!" he commanded her. Everyone gasped, and the two sentinels exchanged horrified glances at each other. "Wayne, please calm yourself," Rojan began. "Stay out of this Rojan," Wayne bit out and raised his sword about to strike when someone ran down the steps and came to stand in front of him, blocking his path. He blinked, surprised. Candice had run down the stairs and was now blocking his path; she raised her arms shielding Everette. "What do you think you are doing?" he glowered at her evidently pissed. "Are you trying to behead her?" she asked unmovingly. "What does it look like to you?" he growled. "This was not her fault," She stood her ground. "I decide whose fault it is. Now move away," he warned her. "If you must punish someone, then punish me," she insisted "Everette has done her best to serve me. I caused this mess." "You are new to this world, there was no way you could have known a siren was luring you away," he refused. "Still, I was foolish. I should not have trusted someone so quickly even in my dreams." She argued. Wayne thought about it for a minute. She might have a point, but what was he going to do with the burning feeling inside him? He was seething inside with fury and he needed to punish someone to ease his mind. "Fine, you win," he threw his sword aside. Rojan quickly picked it up and stowed it away. "Now, for your punishment…" he bent down, hauled her over his left shoulder and began to ascend up the stairs.
