The Assembly

Money solved all problems.

Wayne thought to himself as he walked into the red chamber at the Assembly quarters. The hall was big and crafted in the form of an auditorium. Five chairs, as tall as pillars stood at angles in a circular arrangement, and on it sat five grey-haired wolves. The gammas (elders) of Plane Woede were the advisers to the king. A royal bloodline who had lived up to a thousand years and was still alive assumed the position of gamma to advise on state affairs.

Coming to the middle of the circle, Wayne's thought was still filled with the discussion he had with his naïve little mate two days ago. Everything was either white or black to her, she thought she was smart and could manipulate things to her favor. Well, she would later find out she was being outplayed.

He had no plans of letting her go after six months, he had only offered the deal to buy some time with her. Within the timeframe, he hoped to find a way that would allow her birth his child, then he would relegate her to the basement and invite in his chosen queen. He would only go to her if he desired another child or more.

Time moved differently on this plane; a day here was equivalent to three days on the Earth's plane. Six months here would be a year and six months on her plane. By the time he decided to let her go, forget having a job, she would not have a life to return to.

A smile played along his lips, he was not telling her that. He needed her to be on her best behavior and not try to flee or cause further problems for him. He knew he was betraying her trust, but he would do anything to get what he wanted, even if meant deceiving her.

"You finally grace us with your presence, Lord Wyatt," one of the gammas said rousing him from his inner thoughts.

"Forgive my absence, a lot has been going on lately," he apologized.

"Your Beta was here two days ago to inform us that you have finally found your mate. A hearty congratulations is in order," another gamma said.

"Congratulations to the house of Wyatt" they all chorused in unison.

Wayne nodded acknowledging them.

"I hear she is human; I must say that it is most disturbing," a gamma with a white long plated beard stated.

"What is more disturbing is how she would perform her duties. She will not be accorded respect from the other wolves," another added.

"We have so many females within our realm, how come it had to be someone totally different from us?" one complained.

"What is done is done. We should think of ways to move forward," another proposed.

Wayne rarely came to the assembly, he did not enjoy their banter and bickering at each other. Tradition demanded he sought their advice on state matters, but he wondered how millennia-old men who never left the realm to other places would know anything about the ever-changing world. They had hindered most of his plans to bring modern civilization to their plane, he could only do the barest minimum.

"Only your mate can take your seed and birth a child. Have you thought of how she can birth a werewolf? The pregnancy alone can kill her, talk more of the travail during labor," one gamma pointed out.

"I am aware of that fact and I am working on it," he said simply.

"Many centuries ago, during the slave era, werewolves shared their spirit with their human slaves by the power of the bite during a blood moon. The few that managed to rise after death became halflings, they possessed the powers of the beast in an average measure and were used as foot soldiers in waging wars." Aragon, the oldest wolf among the elders narrated.

He was a Zeta (War general) during his time and had fought so many battles, he had seen many centuries and accumulated wisdom in his aging years.

"Human females never survived the power of the bite; it is not recorded" one of the younger gammas countered quickly "We cannot take such a risk."

"Besides that, the blood moon rarely occurs. We have not had one in many decades, what are the chances one will occur anytime soon?" another stated.

The blood moon happened when the earth's moon was in a total lunar eclipse. The usual whitish moon became red or ruddy brown. It was also known as the Lunar eclipse and it could only occur during a full moon when the sun fully illuminates the surface. Usually, a full moon has no eclipse because the moon orbits in a slightly different plane than the Earth and the sun. However, at times they coincide. This rare occurrence allowed different dimensions in the universe to collide and allowed human halflings to be born.

Wayne had always known of this possibility, but hearing an elder confirm it was affirmation. The next question was when was the next blood moon? He had asked for six months, but would it afford him enough time?

"Shall we continue to argue over what might be or celebrate what we already have? Lord Wyatt when will you introduce her to society?" the gamma with the knack for peace suggested.

"Yes, we should host a big feast and introduce our new Luna to the pack," another agreed.

"I was hoping for some time before I did that," Wayne hissed through his teeth.

"Do not tarry too long lord Wyatt, your uncle must be scheming against the throne as we speak. Make haste while you can to solidify your claim," Aragon advised.

Other gammas nodded in agreement at this advice.

"I will keep your wise words in mind," Wayne said as he nodded in agreement and proceeded to exit the chamber. Coming into the large hallway, he saw Rojan his beta waiting for him.

"How did it go?" Rojan asked once he drew close.

"Better than I would have hoped," he murmured.

"Do they approve of her?" Rojan questioned.

"Do they have a choice? I am the Alpha and I decide if my Luna should be accepted or not," he boldly declared.

"I know that Wayne, but considering she is human. There would be some resistance," Rojan stated.

"No one has the right to decide what happens to my mate but me. Only I can treat her as I see fit, I would not tolerate it from anyone else!" Wayne thundered.

From the look Rojan gave him, he knew he had overreacted. Trying to calm himself, he took in a deep breath "Let's go home, I have some unfinished business with my mate."
