Chapter 2

Elizabeth       Walking to the library down the street I'm still fuming. I mean seriously? What the f**k? Yes he's attractive but that doesn't mean I want to jump in the sac with him. It's pretty hot and I'm relieved to be at the doors of an air conditioned library. Another thing about my home? No AC. There's only one fan in the kitchen to cool the house. I walk in and I am instantly hit with the chilly air radiating from the ceiling. A shiver runs through me and goosebumps raise on my arms and legs but it feels good.  I take a seat by the window. Natalia's supposed to be meeting me in a few. She had to stay back to get something sorted out with the nurse. I get to work on the mass of homework I have to do. I've gotta say, for the first day, the teachers really hammered us. I start with the simple worksheets before turning to my last thing which is an essay for French. This lady is making us write an entire fantasy story in French! As I begin to write, someone calls out my name. It's Natalia. "Hey Natalia!" I wave her over to where I'm sitting. She walks over and plops herself in a chair. She's all smiles. "Why are you so happy?" She rolls her eyes at my tease.  "I'm happy because I'm dragging you to a party Friday night." I groan.  "Seriously Nat? I've never been to a high school party and I'd like to keep it that way." "Oh come on you party pooper. It's just one party. And it's the first one of the year. Please you have to come with me!" I stifle a laugh because she looks like a puppy begging for an extra treat.  I heave a sigh before saying, "Alright alright I'll go."  "Yes!" She celebrates a little too loudly for the librarians liking and is instantly hushed by the old lady behind the counter. "You're coming over mine to get ready."  "Do you know who's going to be there?" "Everyone, why?" I roll my eyes before saying, "does that mean Tristan Blake is going?"  "Why?" "Because I don't want to run into the asshole." "How do you know him already?" "He's in my psych class and he asked me to have "a little fun" at his place." I scowl at the memory.  "Yeah he's the school golden boy and also the schools lady man." "Tell me something I don't t know." Her phone lights up and she checks it. "I've gotta go. See you tomorrow!" I wave as she leaves."       I spend another few hours there before I realize it's 4:30. I shove everything into my old orange backpack and walk out the doors into the thick, New England air. When I am in my house I see a piece of paper and some money on it. I walk over to see what they want.  -pasta -eggs -bread -ham I sigh and shrug off my backpack to head out for the market a block away. I get there and spend about a half hour just trying to find the 4 things I need in the massive store.  When I get home my parents still aren't there. Which honestly is perfectly fine by me. That may sound cold, but when you've got parents like mine, you don't want to be near them. I put everything in the fridge and make myself a quick sandwich before getting into the shower.  The water is cold. Because we can't afford to fix the damage, we're stuck with cold water. Actually I'm stuck with cold water. My parents usually shower at a friends place.  Drying off I change into an over-sized tee shirt and hop into bed to put on my glasses and read a book. I'm not a nerd, but there's no other form of entertainment in the house, so I read to pass the time.        I look at my alarm and decide it's time to sleep. I switch off my light and closed my eyes hoping my dad decides to stay at the bar and my mom parties  ___________________________ Tristan "I heard about your run in with the new girl." My teammate teases as he walks to the field with his friend.  I groan. When is this going to die down? "Yeah. Her loss though." They all laughed.  "Dude she's hot." I might have to take a shot."  "I wish you luck" I salute him.  Tyler suddenly materializes. "Yo everyone coming to the party Friday?" Hell yeahs chorus from the crowd. "Oh and I talked to Natalia, the one Elizabeth's been talking to. I convinced her to bring Elizabeth along to the party." He's rewarded with slaps on the head from the guys. I see it seems I'm not the only one interested in her. The whole damn team seems to want to get in her pants. Our discussion was interrupted by the coach's whistle, signaling everyone practice has begun. Sweaty and tired I walk into my house. The front hall is empty as usual until I hear small, fast footsteps coming towards me. I look to the right and see my 10 year old sister, Liliana, running at me. "Tristan!" She screeches as she jumps into my arms. I catch her and hug her tight.  "Hey there princess."  "You smell bad." Squealing she pushes away and I laugh while placing her on the ground. She's adorable. And correct. I need a shower.  "Hey Lil, tell mommy I'll be in the shower if she needs me." "Okay. Mommy told me dinners at 6." She skips off to send the news. I grin; mommy's litter helper. I trudge upstairs to my room and into the bathroom. I still was getting over Elizabeth's reaction. I don't know why. I should have brushed it off on the spot. But I couldn't. There is something about her. Her physical beauty is undeniable, but there was an air around her suggesting she doesn't know it, a tough exterior you had to get past. Not only exterior, but her personality stuck with me too. Confident, sassy, and smart. Both street and book. I knew that she wasn't your typical dumb blonde.  The air was getting so humid it was hard to breathe, so I got out of the shower and dried off for dinner. A scent wafted into my bedroom. Lasagna. I hurried down the stairs for food. My mom greeted me with a plate and a smile.  Dinner was good. Parents asking the usual about school. How was it, what did you do kind of thing.  "Mom, Dad, can I go to Tyler's party Friday night?"  "Of course you can." They said in unison. I smile. I love that my parents trust me.  "Be back no later than 1." My mom says. I nod and finish my dinner to get started on homework. I'm taking hard classes, and by the look of it, biology is going to whoop my ass this year.  Looking at the my phone I see the time is 11:30. Getting up from my desk I haul myself to the bathroom and toy bed where I pass out cold.
