Chicago BoundJimmy dropped his letter in the mail on the way to Pennsylvania Station. The fabulous Beaux Arts–style building was impressive from the outside—dozens of Doric columns surrounded the perimeter. The view once inside, however, caused him to pause, look up, and admire the hundred-and-fifty-foot ceiling and the sheer grandeur of the space. He settled in by Gate 14 with dozens of people of all races and ages waiting to board the train to Chicago. Everyone hustled toward the steps once the conductor gave the boarding signal.
