Akela’s POV “Meat?” I screamed inside. He reached out towards me with a stick, hit it between the cage bars, and shook it. “Where did Conan get this timid lady from? There are more rejected men than women in this dungeon. Only the ugly and unpresentable female wolves are rejected and sold to Conan, but she is too beautiful to be rejected and sold,” the guy said arrogantly with a smirk on his lips. His last statement struck my heart, but it’s the actual truth: the rejected men in here are more than the rejected women, “She might be a pitiful wolf, but that doesn’t change the fact that she was sold off by her mate. Also, stares too much. Additionally, I heard that female wolves stay virgins until they find their mate,” the guy continued. In the next few minutes, I started hearing loud growls and snarls from outside. The guy bent down again and motioned to me to come closer with his hands, but I was reluctant. “Not to worry, she-wolf, you will soon get used to this place, and I definitely will make sure of that,” he said, and just then my stomach grumbled. I held it firmly from making noise. “Let’s get going,” one of the guys hiding in the dark light said. “I will be done in five minutes,” the guy in front of me said and continued teasing me. After teasing me, he left with the other guys, leaving only one guy here. The guy was tall, handsome, with a with a shaved beard, brown hair that made his eyeballs look sexy. I heaved out a sigh of relief immediately after the last guy left and closed the door behind him. I lay on the ground afterwards and covered myself with the blanket that was available, even though it wasn’t enough. It’s better to have something than not to have anything at all. “Hopefully the bald guy would be changed to the handsome guy by tomorrow,” I thought as I turned to look at the wolf next to my cage. I stretched my hand to his cage and touched him, but he didn’t move an inch. The wolf didn’t even look at my hand nor got worried about me touching him. Realizing that, I used the tip of my fingers to brush his fur. It was so cool and nice to touch. Touching is important amongst us werewolves as it helps connect with each other and the animal living inside us. “Wish you could shift back to your human form,” I said, still brushing his fur. He still didn’t respond. “I will take that as a yes,” I said, heaving out a sigh. The other wolves in their various cages said nothing as they stared at me. I gently removed my hand and lay back in my cage. I was lost in deep thought, thinking about what would have brought each wolf down here, when my mind suddenly went back to those cherished forty minutes I spent with my fated mate. I fell for him in just one glance because of his handsomeness, and I was so eager to meet my mate. My mother would always tell my sisters and me a million times while we were growing up that the moon goddess would never make a mistake when it comes to choosing our fated mate. I spent twenty years on earth thinking and waiting to meet the perfect man that the moon goddess had promised me. I had just met my mate and everything fell apart the moment I set my eyes on him with just SIX words. “I REJECT YOU AS MY MATE” I held my chest firmly to prevent it from falling out of my chest. If everything had stopped there, I would probably have moved on and gotten over the rejection. My siblings would have just created an imaginary love story of him- maybe he’s still in love with his childhood best friend, maybe, or just maybe his heart just didn’t belong to me. There’s no going back to all this since my mate already sold me to a fighting ring where there would be no forgiveness. My situation is now worse. I turned to my inner wolf. “How are you feeling?” I asked my wolf. “Don’t ask me that stupid question,” my wolf fired back, and I felt her rolling her eyes at me. “We were rejected, sold, and you are here asking how I feel about that. We would be alone, broken, and empty forever,” she said. “Come on, wolf. Be positive,” I retorted. “What should I be positive about? We are just like a pebble without our mate,” she said. “Fine,” I said sarcastically. For the first time since I got here, the wolf near my cage turned to look at me. He was a handsome wolf with white fur and dark spots to beautify his skin. “Were you also rejected by your mate?” I asked again for the umpteenth time. He twitched his eyes, and that was when he made me realize that he had heard all I said. “We can only talk better if you shift to your human form,” I said, trying to make my voice sound cheering and welcoming before I continued. “Maybe your human form is difficult; that’s why you can’t shift, but in my own case, my wolf is the difficult one. I’m stuck in my human form while you are stuck in your wolf form,” I said. I continued talking about myself and my wolf to the other wolf for about fifty minutes before I started feeling dizzy. I wanted to continue talking, but my body wouldn’t allow me because of the pains I went through today. I gently laid down and pulled my knees to my chin just like how the rabid werewolves sleep before the dreamland called in. An hour later, I woke up with very disturbing and loud snarls from wolves. I sprang up immediately to see what was going on. I stared at the ground for some minutes before I could remember what was going on. Rejected and sold to Conan. The snarl continued loudly as I peeped and noticed two different footstep sounds on the concrete floor. My hands went straight to the other cage, and I immediately pinched the rabid wolf. He shifted a bit, and I removed my hands immediately. I closed one of my eyes, trying to see what was going on in the hallway with the other eye. It was hard to see anything because the light was very low. I moved closer to the cage door and swayed my head to the other side. I saw the guy I was having a conversation with earlier also walking behind them, with Conan leading the way. Conan opened the cage door to my right, and the guy got in without arguing or throwing any fists. “Someone will bring your food in less than an hour,” Conan said, facing the guy who just got into the cage. It was as if my stomach was waiting for that statement, as it grumbled immediately. I held my stomach firmly, and the other guys outside the cage turned to stare at me. Conan, on the other hand, looked at me angrily and pissed, but I didn’t give a damn. I rolled my eyes at him, trying to look fierce. “I stayed in two car trunks for God knows how many hours. Instead of being freed after several hours of torture, I am being locked up in this dirty cage. If you have it in mind to keep your prisoners alive, the best thing you could do is feed them to get healthy for whatever you want to use them for,” I said angrily. “Kindly double her food,” the guy beside my cage said. Conan stared at me before he shut the guys’ cage, made a loud noise, and left.
