ChapterThree

Akela’s POV “Want to see what your new home looks like, right?” Conan asked, removing the blindfold from my eyes. I got so scared of where Conan was taking me that the moment I opened my eyes and adjusted to the surroundings. Conan firmly held me to his shoulders as we went into a room with low or no light. The space looked like the doghouse that my parents had taken my siblings and me to when we adopted a few new puppies. He turned right, and there was a hallway; there were cages standing next to each other. Each cage is big enough to accommodate a human being and a dog, but will never be comfortable for a werewolf. The floor was covered with an old concrete, while the whole room was filled with urine and a disgusting smell. I looked at each cage Conan walked by, and my eyes met with a big wolf. He was too big to be in that cage, and he looked very old. I felt pity for him as I stared at the other, looking disgusting wolves. My heart was boiling because of getting locked up in a car trunk for hours and then finally being sold to someone else. I was still thinking of what my next fate would be when Conan finally dropped me. “We are home!” Conan said as he pulled open a cage door. He pushed me into the cage, shut the door, and then proceeded to lock the door with an iron bar to prevent me from escaping. “Here are the things you need to know. 1. Food comes in whenever it likes. 2. Anytime you feel like using the toilet, there’s a bucket behind you. 3. You come out to fight every three days, and you can only take a bath before the fight,” Conan said. When he was done, he turned around and left without even wanting to know if I had any questions. I looked around, and the only thing left aside the bucket was a colorless pillow, and worse still, it didn’t have a pillowcase. I moved around the cage and saw a half wall made of steel. It can only be raised by someone outside. I glanced at the bucket, and the stinking smell almost made me vomit. I crawled close to the cage door and held the iron lock. I allowed my fingers to pick the lock as I slowly moved it up and down. I tried my best to feel the lock and later realized it’s something I’m familiar with. I dropped the lock some seconds later and moved to the left side of the cage. I pushed my eyes further and saw a big brown wolf just exactly like the one I saw earlier. I stared at him for a few seconds before speaking up. “What brought you here?” I asked curiously. I lowered my head and watched through the iron bars that divided us. “Did your mate also reject you and sell you off?” I asked again. He didn’t blink his eyes or respond to my questions. “You understand what I mean, right?” I asked. My energy was draining fast, and the only thing I could do was cry to sleep, but I just had to ask questions so I would know that I am not alone. “Hi? Are you listening to me at all?” I asked again, trying to wave my hands across his face. He is staring at me intently, so why is he not responding to my questions? “He’s Rabid!” I heard a male voice from my right side. I moved closer to the cage door and held it firmly as I stretched my neck to figure out who had just made that statement. “Rabid?” I asked, trying to get more information from him. “Yes, his wolf has taken control of his body, and that has made him paralyzed. Therefore, he can’t shift to his normal form,” the strange guy responded. “How is that possible?” I asked. “It’s basically a problem for some species of rejected wolves,” the guy said. Hearing the word “REJECTED” made me more interested in the topic. “Were you also rejected?” the guy suddenly asked, trying to change the topic. I wasn’t just in the mood to talk about my mate or how he rejected me. “How were you guys able to get here? Which country are we in? Is there any way I can contact my parents? Are you the only normal person here?” I bombarded him with so many questions. “Hey, ask your questions one after the other, timid,” he said, lowering his tone. Damn it! I was rejected by my mate, got trapped in the trunk of two cars, and got beaten today; I can’t even deal with that nickname. Yeah, my grandparents were Indian, but my mom moved to the United Kingdom three decades ago, and that was when humans discovered the existence of werewolves. My hair was beyond being natural, and my classmates do joke about it, but I didn’t care. “What is your name?” he finally asked a sensible question. “My name is……….” I opened my mouth to have a meaningful conversation with him, but he interrupted me immediately. “Shush, the first rule of this dungeon is don’t give your real name to anyone. If you do, they will track down your pack, and things might get worse,” the guy whispered loud enough for me to hear. I gasped in shock when I realized the truth. No wonder my mate or Conan even bothered to ask for my real name, and my mate didn’t even tell me his name. “Jeez!” I muttered. “You almost slipped off. You will learn the remaining rules later,” he said, pointing towards the entrance door, and I immediately followed his direction. The door swung open, and we heard heavy footsteps walking on the concrete floor. “Timid, move away from the cage door quickly,” the guy said very fast and quietly. The moment he used a low tone, I knew it was very urgent. My instincts were telling me to argue with him, but those foolish instincts landed me in this cage when they told me that the previous guy was my mate. I hurriedly stepped back from the cage door because he’s the only one I could trust at the moment. I shifted back and met the half wall. “Wow! Wow!! Wow!!!” a baritone male voice mocked while taking each step. I started hearing the wolves in the other cage snarl loudly, and I guess there must have been up to twenty wolves there. Holl up! Are they all rabid wolves like the guy said? Were they all rejected and sold out like me? I thought. I guess I am the only female in this cage, all thanks to my mate and Conan for bringing me here. I don’t even know who I will be fighting or the ring they were talking about earlier. “Whoops! Where’s the new girl?” The baritone voice asked as it grew louder, making the cages shake violently. He walked forward a little and stopped in front of the cage where I was kept. I used my right arm to shield my eyes from the large light he was pointing through the iron bars. The large light moved all over my body, and I gasped. I quickly used that opportunity to glance at his face. He’s a fat man with bald hair and rough bears. “Conan was true to his words this time. I can’t wait to celebrate my victory after my first battle with you, weakling,” he said, smirking. Since my wolf wouldn’t come out to defend us, I decided to face the bald-haired man head-on, not caring what it cost. “What the heck do you want?” I asked angrily. “Just thought to check on my new meat.”
