Better Times

I was walking down the hall. I was suddenly yanked back. I was tied to the wall. Sean was talking to Dusty right outside my door. I was trying to yell. Dusty was my best friend and if anyone could get me out of this she could. I just needed her to hear me, know I was here. I saw Dusty turn her head towards where I was. Sean jumped in the way and was making some sort of weird hands movements, being completely over the top. I could hear them. Sean was saying that I was sick and didn’t want any visitors. Dusty was explaining that we made plans for girls night weeks ago, and never before had we canceled because one of us was sick. Instead we would make home remedies and try to cheer each other up. You know, chicken noodle soup, some over-steeped tea, menthol soaks.   Sean said this was different because it was highly contagious. I tried to yell again. I was screaming with all my might, but nothing would come out. Sean looked at me. Terror was in his face. Dusty said she just wanted to see me. Sean moved to block the door. He told her no and she tried to shove him aside. She never took no for an answer again, especially when it came to me, her best friend.  He slipped and she had her hand on the door. She was about to turn the knob when I broke free. Sean shoved Dusty away from the door. I was putting my hand through the door when Sean slammed it shut, on my fingers. If they didn’t break, they would definitely be swollen and painful. I yelled out for Dusty, but she was gone. Sean came in and picked me up. He set me down on the couch and kissed my forehead. He wrapped in a blanket and when I looked down I saw some chicken noodle soup in my hands. He was stroking my hair telling me I was going to get better. He was like his old self, like he cared, like he might really love me. I looked at him and told him I loved him. I put my head on his shoulder. I fell asleep in his arms, just like old times. I woke up in pitch darkness. No sounds, no lights, and no heat was anywhere near me. I wanted to go back, go back to when Sean was the perfect boyfriend, when I could see Dusty all the time. I suddenly realized that Dusty and I had planned a girl’s night out for Saturday. I went to Sean’s house Thursday. How long had I been here? What would Dusty do? How was Sean going to cover this up if it lasts till Saturday? I was sitting there laying on the bed. Wondering what I did to deserve this. I was a good girl. I have only had a few boyfriends before Sean and was still a virgin until of this happened. I wanted to wait until I got married. I wanted to get married. I wanted kids. I only wanted to wait until I was out of college and started with my career. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do yet. I wanted to help people I knew that. I was thinking about becoming a nurse, or dentist, maybe even go into law enforcement. I really wanted to talk to Dusty. She is my best friend and we tell each other everything. We’ve known each other for what seems like forever. We both are rough and tumble, just in our own special ways. Dusty was the one who seemed to enjoy the pain and find it. She almost seemed to go looking for it. Pain found me in my activities, including all my sports. I also thought I could protect myself against something like this, then again, I never thought Sean would do this to me. I love him. I thought he loved me. I guess not, I guess I’m just a piece of meat to him, one that obviously isn’t giving him what he wants. What if I did give him what he wants? I mean I thought about sleeping with him. Now I did. He said if he could trust me, I could get up. What’s the worst that could happen? I was after all enjoying some things. I mean, now that my virtue, and purity is gone, why not? I thought about it and now I can since he already ruined me, I’m just some common little w***e. I don’t know what to do. My thoughts were interrupted when the door opened once again. In walked the silhouette. It walked towards me, and I could smell him. God how I loved that scent. I felt safe when I could smell it, I was happy. He leaned down and I saw something gleam in his hands. He lifted his hand high above his head and brought it down quickly. I turned away not wanting him to hit my face. I heard the mattress pop. When I turned to see what he put in the mattress I saw a bunch of needles sticking out of the bed. I looked up at him. He leaned his face in close.
