The Somewhat End

“Nothing.” Her whole weight was on the door. “Feeling better?” I looked at her almost disappointed in her. “How do you think I feel?” I could see that Sean was almost at the door now. “I don’t know? I was thinking it might have felt good to get it off my chest.” She was still leaning on the door, but I saw her open the knife. Sean was at the door. I stood up and saw Raphael laying on the lawn, bloody and in a pile. Dusty looked at me, panic in her eyes. “Go to my bedroom and bolt the door.” I just stood there not wanting to leave her alone. “Go!” I leave. As I looked back I the door open. Sean looks around but I round the corner before he looks my way. I could hear Dusty fighting him. As I looked back again, I saw the knife fly across the room. I was now inside the room and was leaning against the door. I heard a punch being thrown and by the grunt afterwards I think it was Dusty. I heard something coming from outside and assumed Raphael was coming to. I heard someone run off inside the house. It was Sean coming to look for me. I heard the two others follow. Doors were opening and Sean would knock on each one. I heard him yelling that if I don’t come out, he will be obligated to use force. I was sitting against the door praying he wouldn’t find me. “You’re in enough trouble.” He knocked on my door. I was starting to shake; I suddenly remember I didn’t bolt the door. I didn’t want to risk standing up to bolt it. “If you come out now I’ll go easy on you.” I looked up and saw the knob turning. I heard Dusty and Raphael coming after him. I was standing up to run to the other side of the room. He was starting to open the door. “One last chance. If you come out now, I won’t kill you.” I heard the sirens screaming down the street. They were getting close. Raphael and Dusty were at the end of the hallway. He couldn’t go anywhere. Sean opened the door, and I saw that he was smiling. Dusty jumped on him. Sean had the knife out and cut her. He kept walking toward me. We smiled that evil smile and spoke. “You should have come out. Now I’m gonna kill you.” He grabbed Dusty’s knife and shut it. He tossed it aside. He took out his knife again. I could hear footsteps inside the house. I heard voices and they were coming closer to the bedroom. Dusty was getting up again and went for his knife. She grabbed it and cut open her hand. They were struggling. All I could do is sit in the corner, terrified watching as all this unfolded. “Police. Police” Sean hit Dusty with a mean roundhouse punch, and she slumped to the ground, unconscious. Sean then turned back to me. The police jumped him. They struggled to subdue him, and a couple of time I thought he would break away. Eventually they have him under control enough to cuff him. They drag him out of the house. I could hear him scream “You’re gonna pay! All of you! You’re gonna pay!” Raphael was at the door and came into the bedroom. I could hear the police call for an ambulance. Raphael went to Dusty, making sure she was ok. When he deemed that she was living and going to survive, he turned to me. He walks up to me, putting his arms around me.  “It’s gonna be ok.” Everything was silent. I had no thoughts and didn’t move. I saw the people around me moving around, looking at things, taking notes. The next thing I did hear was the ambulance. The paramedics ran inside and found the bedroom. They first run to Dusty who was still out. They took her pulse and set her on a gurney to the ambulance. I was next on the list. The ones that didn’t take her to the ambulance came to me. They asked me questions. What is my name? What year is it? Month? Day? I really didn’t know what day it was; I had no clue how long I was in that room. They checked my eyes and were wrapping my wounds. They had another gurney and transferred me to it. Raphael walked me all the way to the ambulance. The paramedics were trying to check him out, but he wouldn’t let them. They told him he would probably need stitches. He got in the ambulance. When they protested he told them he needed stitches anyways, so he would just hitch a ride with us. I heard the sirens again, and we were on our way to the hospital. They brought me into the hospital and into a separate room. I was going to get the full treatment. They took me into the room, and started by looking at all me cuts, bruises, and burns. They were putting ointment all over, and gauzes. I was being pulled in all directions. I heard them say that my wrist was set, but it set wrong. They were going to have to break it so it can set right. They were bringing me into another room, and I was getting very sleepy. When I came to my body was stiff. I noticed that my wrist was in a cast, and so was my ankle. There was a young woman standing in front of me. She smiled and introduced herself. She was with the crime lab, and since I had alleged that I was r***d and tortured I needed to be examined to verify my claim. She calmly explained to me that she was going to look inside me to see what the clock had to say. She bent down and I could feel her. I inhaled and she pulled back and she had an odd look on her face. She shook her head and turned back to me. She started asking me questions about what happened. I tried to answer her the best I could. I did start to cry, and she said thank you and left. I was just lying there, wondering what was next. Then Dusty and Raphael walked in. They saw me and I saw a look of sympathy as they walked to my side. “Do I look that bad?” They laughed. “You’re alright, it’s just hard to see you this way.” Dusty bent over to give me a hug. I winched and she repelled backwards. “I’m sorry!” I smiled.  “It’s not your fault. Are you guys alright?” They looked at each other and nodded. “I just got stitches. I woke up in a hospital bed, but they checked me out and I’m alright. I’m already checked out.” “That’s good to hear.” I smiled. “You didn’t get too beat up did you Raph?” “Not too bad. I got some stitches and a bunch of bruises but that’s it. What about you? What’s all this?” He mentioned over my body. “I don’t know yet. I just woke up. Some woman from the crime lab was here and did the exam but I haven’t seen my doctor yet.” Dusty sat down.  “Then we’ll wait.” Raph followed suit and sat down by Dusty. They started talking, and we were all waiting for the doctor to come in to tell us what the damage was. Finally, he did walk in. He walked over to my bed and looked at me. “You’re pretty beaten up. You had had to get 28 stitches, and your wrist and ankle are both broken. Your wrist had set wrong so we manually broke it again so you could use it properly. You also have a cracked rib, some bad burns, and cuts. You should get some bed rest until you feel up to walking around and change all the bandages about 4 times a day. Other than that, you can go home when you’re ready. Here’s a prescription for some pain medicine too. In eight weeks go see your normal doctor and take a look at those joints.” He smiled and left the room. We all looked at each other wondering what was next. “Sam, I don’t think you should go home alone right now.” I nodded. Raph was right. I needed someone around right now. “I’ll take you. You can stay with me for a while.” I nodded. “That’s a great idea.” I swung my legs over the side of the bed. I had a walking cast on, so I tried to stand on my own feet. It was a little weird, but I did. Raphael rushed over to my side of the bed and put my arm over his shoulder. Dusty grabbed went to the door to open it, and when we were through the door, she went to the desk to get my papers. I signed where needed and we called a cab. We sat in silence as the cab came for us. When it did Raphael helped me climb into the cab as Dusty got in the other side. I moved over and Raphael climbed inside too. Raphael gave the cab driver Dusty’s address and we left the hospital. It was silent. I looked at Dusty. “Thanks.” I turned to Raphael. “Thanks for everything.” They both nodded, and Raphael put his hand on mine. We rode in silence till we got to Dust’s house. Dust got out of the cab, and so did Raphael. He held his hand out and I grabbed it. Dusty was over on my side of the cab now. Raphael was helping me get up. Our eyes locked as I got to my feet. “Come on Sam, let’s get inside.” I looked at her and started walking to the house. “I’ll see you guys later. You sure you’re gonna ok?” “Yeah. I think I can handle gimpy here.” He smiled and got back in the cab. The cab drove off, and we walked into the house. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”  “I never could have imagined it, and there was no way to tell you.” “But why did you lie to me at the door?” I looked down. “Because I love him.” “Well I’m glad you came to me, and I’m sorry he hurt you.”I smiled. “I guess I have to move on now.” “If I had known, he’d be dead by now.” I smiled. “Don’t worry, I’ll help you though this.” “Thanks. So what’s next?” Dust looked at me. “Now we get some rest.”  I replied with a smile and an ok. We walked to the bedroom. The one that she was knocked out and I was almost killed in. “You’re sleeping in my bed tonight.” A faint smile crept across my face. I got into bed and looked at Dusty. “What’s tomorrow?” She looked down at me and smiled. “A new day.” I smiled and fell asleep. When I woke up the sun was high in the sky. “Sleep well?” I smiled. That was my first true smile since this whole ordeal began. “Let’s get up and eat some breakfast.” We walked out to the kitchen. Dust was going to make breakfast and not let me have anything to do with it except eating it. She was making bacon and toast. I just sat and watched her busy herself around the place. We heard a knock on the door. “Stay! I’ve got it.” Dusty walked out to get the door, and I started eating some bacon. I heard her open the door. “Is she awake?” It was Raphael. “She’s in the kitchen.” “Can I come in and talk?” “Sure.” I heard him walk towards me and I looked up. “Hi.” I kept eating, I was really hungry. When I finished my mouthful of bacon I answered him. “Hi.”  “How are you?” “Better.” Dusty asked him if he wanted any breakfast but he declined. It was followed by an awkward silence that was only broken by the sound of Dusty and me eating. “Well I just came over to see if you were ok.” I smiled and looked down sheepishly. “Thanks.” He got up and started heading towards the door. “I’m leaving now.” I look up and open my mouth, but no sound comes out. He walks to the door. Dusty gave me a look and spoke. “GO after him!” I get up and start hobbling towards him. “Wait!” He turned around. “Please stay.” He looked at me.  “Ok.” We walk back into the kitchen. Dusty gave me a look. I knew what it meant. She wanted me to tell. I looked at him but looked down. When I look back at Dusty I shook my head, a look of nervous fear clearly visible. “I think I’ve got something to do out here.” Dusty leaves the kitchen leaving me and Raphael alone. I look at Raphael and he looks back. “Please don’t leave me. Please stay here with me.”  “Why?” He c****d his head, looking confused, with a glitter of hope in his eyes. I look down, but he grabs my chin and brings it up. I look into his eyes and think to myself; I like you, I want you. “Ok” He wraps his arms around me and squeezed slightly. Dusty peeks around the corner and asks if I told him yet. He looks at her suspiciously. “Told me what?” She smiled a big smile and said oops. I looked at her angrily and turned to Raphael. Dusty just grinned. “I’m going to step out now.” She laughed nervously. He looked at me. “What did you have to tell me?” I smile a little nervously. He looked at me with that what is it look. “What is it?” I open my mouth but shut it again and look down. I don’t think I could tell him. “Sam?” I whispered softly “I like you, I want you, I love you. I want you to love me back.” “What?” I looked up at him a little upset. “What didn’t you understand? Don’t make me repeat it.” I was shaking my head.  “Don’t be scared.”  “I like you!” He looks at me and smiled.  “Then can I ask you this? Would you mind if I kissed you?” I smiled.  “Not at all.” We stood there silent, looking at each other. “Well? Are you going to?” He laughed and leaned in for the kiss. We kissed, and it was passionate, and it was better than any kiss Sean had ever given me. At the point Dust walks in.  “Finally!” We all laughed and Raphael held me closer. That’s where my story with Sean ended, at least for now.
