Daphne's POV I wasn't dreaming, or maybe I was trying to convince myself that I was somehow hallucinating or imagining things but the scene unfolding in front of me definitely didn't look like a dream. Before I could make sense of anything else, I slid my hand under the little desk and pinched myself in the arm. "Ouch." I let out slowly, or maybe it wasn't so low as I watched Nikolai's head whip towards mine almost instantly. The speed at which he turned to gaze at me would have definitely cracked an ordinary person's neck but this was Nikolai. He was far from ordinary. "Alpha." Mr. Rogers broke my string of thoughts as he greeted the young man who'd obviously just interrupted his class. Not like he cared anyway, neither could he do anything about it. "Good day Alpha, I wasn't expecting you at all. How can I help you?" Nikolai only so much as spared my chemistry teacher a glance before turning to the rest of the class. I blinked twice, my brain doing a painfully slow job of trying to figure out exactly what was going on right now. "Oh, my God." Someone squealed beside me. She was trying her best not to be too loud but she was failing woefully at the same time too. "It's the Alpha. It's Nikolai!" "Isn't he dreamy?" I turned to my right to find a red-haired girl fawning at him. She was in no way subtle and from the way she rested her cheek on her chin, I wouldn't be surprised if she started drooling. "He's so hot." "What's he doing here?" Even the guys in the class weren't left out. "I mean it's Alpha Nikolai, what would he…" Whatever he was about to say died in his throat as the sound of someone's footsteps filled the room. Strangely, I didn't have to guess who it was. It was Nikolai. Before I could come up with my next line of action, he was already at my desk and dangerously close to me too. I froze, my entire body turning to ice. I couldn't feel my hands or my legs. "Follow me." If I thought I was cold earlier, I was definitely kidding. The sound of his voice came with some kind of intensity I hadn't experienced before. "Now." I felt my heart slow to a stop. It couldn't be. There was no way he could be talking to me, right? Follow him? I was clearly wrapped up in my head to think Nikolai, the Alpha, would want something to do with me. I just… "Daphne." I jerked up at the sound of my name. I closed my eyes for a split second. Maybe I was imagining things, maybe I would open my eyes and it would all go away. "Daphne. Are you deaf? He's talking to you." It didn't go away. If anything, I felt more conscious about everything now. "I-i" I found it hard to come up with words. "Get up." It was more a threat than anything else. I wouldn't blame him though, no one wanted to get on the Alpha's bad side. "I, um…" "Get up." Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined Nikolai coming close to me, so him pulling me out of my seat was definitely a discovery. "Come with me." I heard several gasps as I let Nikolai lead me away, his grip still firm on my wrist. It was like that, him pulling me along as I stared at the back of his brown hair till we got to the restroom. He slammed the door shut and pulled me up against the wall immediately. If we were in the girls' or guys' bathroom, I had no idea. My mind was a jumbled mess of; Me, Nikolai, together alone, bathroom. I came face to face with dark blue eyes seeking to pierce my soul. I watched as he scanned my face, his gaze fluctuating from my face to my lips. The desire in his eyes was intense, rooting me to my spot. I could feel my chest rising and falling, so close to touching his hard abs. Our noses were almost touching, we were practically exchanging breaths. I watched his lips strain into a straight line and I could feel his fingers brushing the side of my thigh. I shivered. "Meet me by my car after school." His voice was a low rasp that sent shivers down my spine. "And no one, no one, must know about it." Was all he said before leaving me alone and dumbfounded in the restroom. *** I had no idea which was hotter, the way he stared me down and how his eyes were practically ripping off my clothes from my body, or the way his fingers sent tingles on my skin. We were so close our bodies were literally touching, theoretically, that is. "Daphne." My name had never sounded so sexy on someone's lips. "Daphne." "Yeah." It was barely a rasp. A pool of heat bubbled up inside of me, threatening to burst out into the open. "Oh, Daphne…" "Daphne!" That definitely wasn't Nikolai. It took me two blinks to realize I was daydreaming and I was awkwardly standing in the middle of the hallway with my two best friends by my side. Conan spun me to face him and I blinked again. "Are you okay? You seem lost." "No, no." I stuttered. " I'm fine. I'm okay, really." "Are you sure?" Camilla spoke up next, concern and worry laced in her voice. "Conan's been teasing you since we started walking and you barely reacted." "Maybe I'm immune now." I chuckled but it only came out forced. "Yayyyy." "Or perhaps something's on your mind." Conan shot me a pointed look. " What's wrong Daphne? Come on." "I found my mate." I let out slowly and I watched as Camilla's eyes widened to the size of saucers. "It's Nikolai." "Oh, my God." Camilla squealed excitedly, jumping up and down. "I knew it, I just knew it." "I'm happy for you." Conan's smile was genuine at least but there was something else underneath it. "But…" I cut him short. "I feel there's a but coming up." "Actually there is." He shrugged, a smile still on his face. "You do know Nikolai is the Alpha right and your sister is the supposed Luna." "Conan!" Camilla's fist came in contact with Conan's shoulder immediately. He yelped loudly before stepping back a few steps. "Why did you have to say that? Did you want to ruin her mood? Didn't you see the way she just lit up right now? How can-" "But he is right." I cut Camilla from speaking and assaulting Conan anymore. "Conan's got a point." "No, he doesn't." Camilla stood her ground. "I'm sure she'd understand. He's your mate after all." "But she's my sister…" "Another reason for her to understand." Camilla cut in again before the loud chime of the bell cut all of us short. "I've got a class now. What about you Conan?" "Same." Conan nodded as he slipped his backpack onto his other shoulder. "We'll see you later right Daphne?" "Yeah." I nodded. "But don't wait for me once the bell rings. Go home, I'll text y'all later." "Okay." I watched as the duo headed their respective ways before I ventured down the hallway that led to mine. The rest of the class was a blur as only one thought occupied every space in my mind, how would Harper feel? Nikolai was basically her boyfriend since forever and now I would just come in and snatch him from under her fingers. Yes, we were mates but it just didn't feel right and it was even worse that Harper was my sister. No, the best sister in the whole world, and my heart raced when I got her text. Hey sissy, I got you a huge birthday cake. And don't worry about my date with Nikolai. I already canceled my plan with him so we can celebrate together. I can't wait to see you. Xoxo. The text was in two parts, I'd almost missed it. But after my eyes scoured the content of the text, I actually wished I hadn't seen it. Oh yes, quick question. Have you found your mate yet? Is he hot? I bet he is. Bring him over. Can't waitttttt. I had no idea how I'd respond to that, so I left it as it was. Hopefully, Harper would see it as I was too excited to reply. In less than no time the final bell signalling the end of the school day rang and I found myself weaving my way to the garage. It wasn't hard locating the Alpha, I found him supporting his weight by the trunk of his car, his brown hair glistening in the sunlight. It was weird seeing him alone. Most times, he was usually with his beta or his girlfriend. From my position at the top of the stairs, he looked like a model from a Teen Vogue magazine. He had ditched his black leather jacket and left his biceps on full display. Toned abs peeked out from the white tank top he wore before disappearing into the small V of his pants. I gulped as I took slow and calculated steps toward him. Blue eyes followed my every step until I was no less than five inches from him. "Hi?" I was totally at a loss for words as to what I would say to him. His presence was intoxicating and intimidating at the same time, I was sure I could faint. "You told me to come…" "I'll make this as short and clear as possible. "His voice was low but still boomed with an aura of authority. "You're not my mate, Daphne,"
