Lilith POV I froze as the man’s large hand clamped over my mouth. My heart pounded wildly against my chest as countless thoughts raced through my mind. What are they going to do to me? Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed another young man—around my age—running toward us. I couldn’t make out his features in the darkness, but his blue-green eyes seemed to glow beneath the moonlight. “Clark, go get the Alpha!” the man ordered, his chest rumbling against my back. The younger man nodded and sprinted into the forest. Alpha..? What does he mean by Alpha? “Don’t worry,” the man whispered softly. “I’m not going to hurt you. I just need to make sure you’re safe.” Safe? What do these men want from me? I forced myself to slow my breathing as I glanced around. No one else was nearby. This was my chance. Without thinking, I bit down as hard as I could on the man’s hand. He cried out in pain. The metallic taste of blood filled my mouth, but I refused to let go until he loosened his grip. The moment he did, I twisted free. I drove my knee into his groin. He doubled over. Then I punched him square in the face before taking off into the woods. I had no idea where I was running. All I knew was that I had to get away from those men… and their “Alpha.” ⸻ Trees blurred together as I sprinted through the darkness. “There she is!” A man’s voice echoed behind me. I glanced over my shoulder. A tall man led a group of others through the forest, closing the distance between us at an impossible speed. No human could run like that. Panic surged through me. I pushed myself harder quickening my speed I looked back again. The man was somehow even closer. Fear consumed me. Without watching where I was going, my foot caught on a thick tree root. I cried out as I fell forward. A broken tree branch pierced deep into my shin. Pain exploded through my leg. Blood immediately soaked my jeans. Adrenaline rush through my veins as I forced myself to stand, the moment I put weight on my injured leg, my ankle twisted beneath me. A scream ripped from my throat as I crashed back onto the forest floor. Soft whimpers echoed from somewhere within the trees, it made me feel… Sad I looked around, trying to find where they were coming from. But before I could… The men stopped only a few feet away. My entire body trembled. I was trapped. ⸻ James POV My heart shattered the moment I heard her scream. The entire pack was mind-linking me, each of them feeling guilty for frightening our future Luna. As I stepped closer, I saw the terror in her hazel eyes. She desperately tried to scoot backward despite her injured leg. “P-Please…” she stammered between shaky breaths. “D-Don’t hurt me.” Every word felt like another knife through my chest. My own mate…was terrified of me. I slowly knelt in front of her. “I’m not going to hurt you,” I said as gently as I could. “I never will. Please… Come with me. We can help you. fix your leg.” Carefully, I rested my hand against her injured shin. The instant our skin touched… Warm sparks danced up my arm. My wolf immediately relaxed. Every ounce of panic inside me disappeared. Judging by the confusion on her face… She felt them too. I also felt warmth and feeling a liquid drip from her jeans. I slowly lifted my hand and saw it was covered in blood. My stomach dropped. Her blood…The scent hit me all at once. She was losing far more than I’d realized. Her face had already began to turned pale. I watched as her eyelids fluttered. “Spike! Liam!” Mind link Quinn and tell her to come down now!” My Alpha voice thundered through the forest. “Yes, Alpha!” Spikes eyes instantly glazed over while Liam sprinted toward the pack house. Without another thought, I carefully lifted my mate into my arms. She felt impossibly light. I held her close as I ran. “Stay awake,” I pleaded. Please… Don’t leave me. I just found you.” I felt my wolf whimpered as the mate bond pulsed between us. ⸻ I burst through the front doors of the pack house. “Quinn!” Our pack healer came rushing into the entryway of the pack clinic hurriedly putting on her scrubs, her white hair a complete mess. Her sleepy expression disappeared the second she saw the blood. “What happened?” she asked. She gently took Lilith from my arms and laid her across the medical bed in one of the rooms. “She fell,” I answered breathlessly. There was a branch… Everything happened so fast.” Quinn immediately examined the wound. I buried my face in my hands as I sat down on the ottoman next to the medical bed” Spike walked over and folded his arms. “Bro… How the hell did you not smell all that blood? It was everywhere. You seriously didn’t notice?” I looked up at him. “I..I was too distracted. The sparks I felt form our touch My mate.. I didn’t even realize how badly she was hurt.” Spike simply sighed before leaning against the wall across from me. A moment later, Quinn hurried over, wiping blood from her hands onto a towel. Her face had gone pale. “James…” I felt my stomach tightened. “She’s losing a lot of blood.” She looked me directly in the eyes. “We need to get her to the emergency room. Now.”
