Chapter 10: Dilemma (1) *** ‘I guess he hasn’t changed all, or at least not that much from before… though I’d never had a good opportunity to look at his face… He’s still the same ball of nervousness he was before… gosh…’ Evan was now faced with a dilemma… ‘I don’t want to ruin this guy’s date… even more now that I know how difficult it must have been to invite me out… even though he had to do it in such a roundabout way through our parents… such a mess…’ Evan breathed in then breathed out slowly. “Derek… back then I remember you weren’t really interested in the episode… but you watched it with me anyways.” Evan said as he put his hand across the table to touch the other man’s hand, in an attempt to calm him down. “So you knew that? I… was so happy someone spoke to me that… I didn’t even care what we did…” Derek said as he looked down at his hand that the other was touching. ‘She’s just like I imagined…’ He thought to himself. ‘No… rather just like I remember her…’ He continued the same train of thought, a certain indescribable wave of happiness coursed through him… “Hah… it was pretty obvious… but it still made me happy to have someone to watch LPA with… I mean the rest of my classmates would never watch a show like that.” Evan said as he pulled his hand away. ‘Well… sorry Eve… I guess I’ll be having the date with him after all, I can’t reject him harshly either…’ He thought to himself. “Also… I brought this for you… I left it here in advance and I was looking for the right moment to give it to you…” Derek pulled out a present from under the table, it was quite well hidden by the long table cloth. “It’s not much and it’s a bit late but… Happy Birthday...” “….!” Evan’s eyes widened as the other took out a box all in red wrapping paper and a white bow tie on it. It looked too pretty to ruin. “You… didn’t need to bring me anything… I didn’t even celebrate my birthday yesterday…” Evan said as he smiled and looked at the man. “…but thank you, this is really amazing…” “You didn’t celebrate?” Derek asked in a bit of a confused voce. “Ah, well because of my si-brother, my twin brother… We’ve mutually decided not to celebrate our birthday on the day itself but instead several days later on different dates so that each of us will have a party of our own…” Evan explained as he looked at the present he was given. Because of this arrangement both of the twins had, they never received presents on their actual birthdays but on the day they decide to actually celebrate it. This year Evan had chosen to do it a week after their birthday and Evelyn decided to do it several days after that. “I think that’s a pretty good arrangement… Does that mean I get to spend your birthday with you alone then? If we say it’s today…” Derek asks in his shy voice, he sounded confident there just for a split second before reverting back to himself. “S-sure if that’s what you want…” Evan quickly agreed. ‘Geez… five years ago I offhandedly mentioned my birthday and this guy still remembers it… he even got me a gift… it’s rather… sweet…’ He thought to himself finding the entire thing endearing… “Actually I did watch the rest of the LPA series… I even watched the movies and the short extras… I got very into it after a while, the MC is really hard headed at times, but there’s this magnetic charm he has which makes him difficult not to love… charisma you could say…” Derek said as he had a faint smile on his face, he gently raised his wine glass next to his lips. “…he kind of reminds me of you…” He said as he took a small sip of his wine. “I remind you of a man?” Evan asked as he titled his head to the side. “…!” Derek began coughing, he’d just choked on his wine after hearing the other. He rushed to respond. “Cough… cough… that’s not it…” He said his throat still feeling a little tight. “Hah…. I’m sorry…” Evan stood up, walked to the man’s side and patted the Derek’s back with his hand. “I was joking… I know what you meant…” “Oh… well…” Derek felt the other’s warm hand on his back, suddenly making him calm down. He turned around a bit and took the other’s hand in his then held it. “Y-you know… even back then… I’d always somehow calm down then you touch me… no matter how nervous or anxious I was…” “Haha… is that also part of my magnetic charm?” Evan asked as he smiled and leaned forward. ‘I was wondering if I would look easy if I kiss him on the first date but… who freaking cares about stuff like that anyways?’ He thought to himself as he gently placed his free hand behind the man’s neck and pulled him in. The light kiss that they exchanged between each other somewhat sent a very particular feeling down both of the men’s bodies… Derek looked up at Evan, with his mouth agape as if he had trouble comprehending what had just happened. “Was one kiss not enough? Want another one?” Evan asked as he moved his face closer to the other man’s once again. “I was just surprised… your lips are so soft…” Derek said as he looked wide eyed at the other. ‘She’s so daring…’ He thought to himself as he tried to calm down his heart. “Haha… silly that’s how lips are supposed to be… though I guess my lip balm does help…” Evan said as he went back to his seat, gently letting go of the other’s hand. ‘Sorry sis… I guess we’ll have to have a small change of plans…’ He thought to himself. The evening they shared continued, the date was near it’s end when Derek called in one more surprise for the other person… “I know you said I shouldn’t have… but this was already prepared in advance so… I hope you enjoy it…” Derek said as he lit up the candles on the cake he’d ordered. “You’re joking… you even remembered that fruit cake’s my favorite?” Evan asked in a surprised voice. The time they’d spent at camp wasn’t long at all only a few weeks but it seemed like Derek had remembered everything they’d talked about at the time. “I’m sorry… is it weird?” Derek asked. He was in the habit of remembering things for long periods of time, whether they were useful or useless memories to have. In this case however it was something important to him so it was impossible for him to forget it. “Not weird at all… but… I’m sorry I don’t remember that much about you as you do about me…” Evan said as he looked down at the cake, it looked like it was made with a lot of effort, though some of the frosting was a bit off, probably while they were carrying it in the box it might have gotten rubbed off. “Well… if you agree to go out again with me… You could start to get to know me now…” Derek said still sounding a bit shy. “I’d love to…” Evan said as his expression slightly changed. ‘Wonder how this is going to end…’ He thought to himself as he closed his eyes and blew off the candles. “Did you wish for something?” Derek asked as he smiled at the other. “I did…” Evan said as he began cutting the cake. ‘I don’t really need anything but if at all possible I hope this guy doesn’t hate me after he finds out I’m not a girl.’ That was the man’s single wish at that moment…
