*Chapter 10 : The Royal Dilemma

331 Words
Ryker sat on his throne, his mind preoccupied with thoughts of Aria. He had just returned from their secret meeting, and he couldn't shake the feeling of happiness that lingered within him. But as he looked around the palace, he knew that he couldn't keep his love for Aria a secret for much longer. His marriage to Princess Sofia was a sham, and he knew that he couldn't continue living a lie. Princess Sofia, sensing Ryker's distraction, approached him. "My lord, is everything alright?" she asked, her voice laced with concern. Ryker forced a smile, trying to reassure her. "Yes, my dear. Everything is fine." But Princess Sofia wasn't convinced. She knew that Ryker's heart wasn't in their marriage, and she suspected that there was someone else. As the days passed, Ryker found himself torn between his duty as king and his love for Aria. He knew that he couldn't abandon his responsibilities, but he also knew that he couldn't live without Aria. One night, Ryker called a meeting with his trusted advisor, Lord Thomas. "I need your counsel," he said, his voice low and urgent. "I'm torn between my duty as king and my love for someone else." Lord Thomas's expression turned serious. "My lord, I suspect I know who this person is. Aria, the rebel's daughter, isn't it?" Ryker's eyes widened in surprise. "How did you know?" Lord Thomas smiled wryly. "I've seen the way you look at her, my lord. And I've seen the way she looks at you. But, my lord, you must consider the consequences. Your marriage to Princess Sofia is crucial for the kingdom's stability." Ryker nodded, knowing that Lord Thomas was right. But he also knew that he couldn't ignore his feelings for Aria. As the meeting concluded, Ryker knew that he had a difficult decision to make. Would he follow his duty as king, or would he follow his heart? The fate of the kingdom, and his own happiness, hung in the balance.
