I’d settled into my new gig, enjoying the leisurely pace of most days and the reliable absence of out-of-nowhere disasters. I wouldn’t say I could run on autopilot, but I didn’t have to be on the alert all the time. I had a semi-private cubicle to park in when I wasn’t doing rounds or otherwise engaged.
