"Finally, I'm saved."
Damon rejoiced as he watched Lena land on her feet after jumping down from the tree, her hair was being blown by the wind and her face was straight which meant she had grown serious. For Lena to have intervened it could mean only one thing, if she had wasted the fraction of a minute Damon was sure to become slime food.
"Puru."
The slime wobbled and looked at the hole in it's body which was freezing up at an incredibly slow pace. It looked confused as it made the sound but much more quieter this time, it almost made Damon sad that the creature was going to die at Lena's hands but then the slime made the one annoying sound Damon despised and this time it sounded like it was truly pissed off.
It raised it's hand and tried to hit Lena with it but being an archer and partly because she was a dragon, Lena jumped out of the way and with swift precision blasted two more holes in the slimes deformed body.
The slime released it's sound and waved it's hands in the air erratically, it bent back and the lower part of it's body opened slit open in an horizontal line. It moved his body as it aimed for Lena who was surprisingly suspended in the air and shot a large mass of green slime towards her.
"Lena, get down!"
Damon screamed to warn her. Lena saw the corrosive mass headed towards her just in time and she came jumping down. The slime bounced towards her and swinged it's hand ready to end her, she dived out of the way and blasted two more holes into it's body making it bounce back. Lena readied three more arrows and aimed for it's head, seeing this the slime didn't hesitate to turn around and bounce away.
"Don't you even think about running away you coward!"
Damon screamed as he grabbed his sword and charged at the fleeing slime, upon reaching it he pulled back his sword and stabbed it into the slime's back but it smacked him away in response.
Just as it was about flee away from sight three holes were periodically blasted into it's head completely destroying the upper part of it's jelly like body in the process.
The slime's body melted and flowed on the ground and it's core came rolling back before stopping at Lena's feet. She picked it up and examined it for a while before handing it over to Damon.
"Here."
"No, I couldn't possibly take it from you."
"You earned it human, not everyone can pull off what you did today so take it. Consider it the loot from your first battle."
With that said Lena threw the slime's core at Damon and he instinctively caught it in his hands. It was round and much more larger than the usual slime bunny core he had collected and it was made of up of three colours, red, yellow and green.
Damon smiled, now he could use this to create his first weapon. His present sword and shield set wasn't nearly enough.
"How many levels have you gained?"
Lena asked as she watched her bow, quiver and arrows vanish into thin air. Damon was caught off guard by the question and by the way her weapons had vanished, what did she mean how many levels had he gained?
"I am not sure, I thought you had equipments for checking things like that."
Damon replied still nervously examining the core in his hands, he had to try to twist whatever answer he gave out as much as possible, it was the only way to ensure nobody within the game knew about the system and the outside world. It was the only way.
"Why do you need equipments and devices when you have a status interface? I thought it was common knowledge that every being that exists has been granted the gift of the status interface, to reach the pinnacle of their race race and evolve into mysterious wonders."
Damon stared at Lena in shock and disbelief, he hadn't expected the dragons and humans within the game to posses a system talkless of every being that existed. He doubted he had encountered such a thing before in his early months of playing Dragon Dynamics.
"So, how many levels have you gained?"
"I'll check right away."
Damon said hurriedly, he wasn't sure how theirs worked and so he had to be careful when revealing his. He looked at his system interface and was surprised to see he han't gained any extra level but he had gained a reward that wasn't a skill.
"I gained two levels and I am currently at level three."
"Level three? That's absurdly fast."
"Absurdly? I thought it was fast too."
Damon stated. Lena sighed and streched out her hand to help him up.
"You've done enough for today, let's regroup with the rest and return to town."
"Regroup? But I haven't slayed the hobo-goblins yet, I need to deliver them to the barkeep at the tavern remember?"
"Leonard has that covered, he's sure to have slayed the goblins in your behalf. You can rest up this night and deliver it tomorrow."
"Thanks, I really appreciate the help you have lent me and the kindness and care you have shown me. I am truly grateful."
Damon replied as he bowed his head and upper body. Lena's cheeks flushed red as she looked at him bowing and immediately began to wave her hands in protest saying.
"No no no, I haven't done anything so don't thank me. Let's just return for the mean time, I remember you didn't have breakfast before leaving, you must be starving."
"I'm not really starving but thanks anyways."
Damon lied for the sake of being polite as he grabbed his things and stood up with Lena's help, once he was back in his feet and had dusted his clothes they proceeded towards the spot they were to regroup at.
There was a warm soothing feeling growing at the pit of Damon's belly and in his chest region, it felt so warm and welcoming he couldn't ignore it.
A smile grew on his lips as they walked on through the gargantua mass of trees and undergrowth grasses. Just as they reached the area where they were to regroup, the duo heard thumping footsteps approaching them. Lena's bow and arrow appeared and she grabbed it and instantly aimed for whatever was approaching them.
Damon readied his sword and shield as he took a stance, his heart racing and thumping against his rib cage. Just then two hobo-goblins ran out from the rear, one wielding a club and one wielding an axe.
"You've got to be kidding me."
