CHAPTER 5 RAYA'S POV For the past week, my house had turned into a garden, an art gallery, and a post office all at once. Every day without fail, gifts arrived at my door, bouquets of roses, elegantly wrapped boxes of chocolates, and handwritten letters that were too poetic for me to ignore. At first, I thought it was a mistake, thinking maybe all these were meant for someone else. But when I read the first note, my stomach twisted in annoyance. “Raya, I never stopped thinking about you. You were the light I foolishly turned away from. My mother asks about you often, she misses you just as much as I do. She’s ill, but she lights up whenever I talk about you. Please, let me see you again. Pierce.” Ugh, that sounded like a bad 90s romance novel. I wanted to rip the note to shreds but my hands trembled as I read it over and over again. How dare he? After all this time, after all the pain, how dare he try to creep his way back into my life like this? I shoved the letter into a drawer and ignored the gifts for as long as I could, but they kept coming. Different guards would knock on my door, smiling politely as they handed over the latest delivery. I refused to let them in and refused to entertain the thought of Pierce trying to win me back. What was he expecting? That I'd run back to be with him because of these gifts and poetic letters? Well, he was fully wrong. By the end of the week, my patience was wearing thin. As I closed the door on yet another delivery, which was a small jewelry box with a note tucked inside, I heard the sound of heels clicking against the pavement outside my house. I turned and I saw a tall, striking woman walking toward me. Her dark hair was pulled into a sleek ponytail, and her expensive clothes screamed wealth and luxury. “Are you Raya?” she asked with a sharp tone as she stopped in front of me. I frowned. “Who’s asking?” “Nicole." She replied with a prideful expression, stepping closer, "Pierce’s fiancée.” The air left my lungs hearing that. “Excuse me?” “You heard me,” she said, her lips curving into a smug smile, “Pierce is mine. He's soon to be my husband, and I'm soon to be his wife and the Luna of this pack. I came here to warn you to stay away from him.” I stared at her, my mind racing. Fiancée? Husband? Pierce had never mentioned anything about being engaged. Not that I cared though, it wasn’t my business. But to have this woman show up at my home, accusing me of something I hadn’t done was too much. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I replied, crossing my arms, “I have no interest in Pierce.” “Oh, really?” Nicole sneered, “Then why has he been sending you gifts all week? Why is he writing you letters, talking about how much he misses you?” “That’s not my problem," I said with clenched fists, "If you have an issue, take it up with him.” “Listen to me, little omega," Nicole stepped closer, her voice dropping to a venomous whisper, "I don’t care what you meant to Pierce in the past. Whatever bond you think you have with him is over. I’m his future, not you. So, stay away, or I’ll make you regret it.” My blood boiled, who did this girl think she was talking to? “You don’t get to come into my home and threaten me,” I snapped, staring at her boldly, “I don’t owe you or Pierce anything. Now, get out.” Nicole’s smile wavered, but she quickly regained her composure. “Consider this your only warning,” she said, looking at me with disdain from head to toe before turning on her heel and strutting away. I slammed the door shut in fury, my heart pounding. This was all Pierce's fault. … Night came, and as I sat on the couch trying to distract myself with a book, a strange feeling washed over me. Mom and Dad were not home, but the house felt too quiet. I quickly locked the doors and windows but the unease didn’t go away. Just as I was about to head to bed, I heard a sudden noise that made me freeze. It was like someone was stepping on the porch. Before I could react, the door burst open, and several masked men stormed inside. I barely had time to scream before they grabbed me, dragging me out of the house and into a waiting car. Panic surged through me as they drove into the forest. "What do you guys want from me?!" I asked in fear as I tried to struggle, but they held me down with a tight grip. When the car finally stopped, they dragged me out and shoved me to my knees. One of them stepped forward and I could see a syringe in his hand. “Listen carefully,” he said with a low and menacing voice, “Stay away from Pierce, or your family will pay the price. We can make accidents happen, do you understand?” I stared up at them, my heart beating fast. “You don’t scare me,” I lied, my voice shaking. “Maybe this will change your mind,” the man said before plunging the syringe into my arm. Pain shot through me, and I cried out as my vision started to blur. “This is just a warning,” the man said, “Next time, it’ll be worse.” They left me there trembling and alone, the forest literally spinning around me due to whatever they injected into my body. … Hours passed and I finally managed to stumble back to my house in pain, clutching my arm. My head was pounding, and my thoughts were an absolute mess. Whatever they had injected me with was still coursing through my veins, making me feel really weak and dizzy. As I cleaned the puncture wound and treated myself, I tried to steady my breathing. But one thought kept repeating in my mind… I couldn’t let this continue. Pierce had brought nothing but pain into my life, first by rejecting me, and now by dragging me into whatever mess he was involved in. It didn’t matter what he said in his letters or what feelings I might still have buried deep inside me. I couldn’t do this anymore. Pierce and I were over for good, and I knew just what to do to make sure of it.
