Chapter 2

493 Words
After my sister's funeral, I began investigating her death. Finally, the reason surfaced in her diary. February 5th Dear Diary, It's sunny but I feel terrible. Crystal's gang beat me up in the bathroom again. They stripped me and recorded it. I can't tell anyone - they threatened to release the video. May 13th Dear Diary, I messed up my piano recital because Crystal put razor blades on the keys. When I confronted them, I got another beating. And they threatened to cripple my hands if I tried to show off again. June 28th Dear Diary, I got beaten again... August 9th Dear Diary, Crystal cornered me in an alley with a thug. He harassed me, saying he would have s*x with me. I ran but couldn't escape the beating. August 28th Dear Diary, Rain poured as I walked, but couldn't wash away the filth. The thug r***d me. I don't know who to tell. I want to die. August 30th Dear Diary, What a beautiful sunny day, but I'll never see the sunshine again. I'll end it all. Maybe death will free me from the endless pain. I'll miss Mom and Sis. If there's an afterlife, I'll be better. The diary ended on the day she died. I clutched it, sobbing uncontrollably. I had no idea she endured such torment. No wonder she wouldn't bathe with me. The reason was she just wanted to hide her injuries. They destroyed her and destroyed my family! Blood must be answered for with blood! I would trade my last life of three months for their lifetime in prison. It was more than worth it. I plotted my revenge. I swore none of the bullies would escape. First, I needed to secure my mom's life in the future, so I transferred all valuable assets to her name, including a small two-bedroom apartment worth a million dollars and a two-hundred-thousand-dollar car. With my savings and her pension, it was enough for a decent nursing home. To my mom's questions about what I did, I just told her that it could motivate me. With everything settled, I started investigating around school, asking my sister’s classmates about the school. Everyone knew Crystal, the rich, beautiful girl. Her father was the principal, and her mother owned a company. That was why she always threw her weight around but no one dared cross her. No wonder. Her high-profile lifestyle made it easy to learn her usual haunts—school, bars, and home. I knew her routes, favorite bars, and favorite shopping malls. But I wouldn't target her first. A predator toys with its prey before the kill. It was the most satisfying to bite it when the prey's terrified and anxious. So she was not my first target. I'd start with her annoying lackeys. Vanessa and Hannah were her top minions. I saw their names often in my sister's diary. Usually, they did Crystal's dirty work, but they were equally despicable.
