ISOLDE We head to the kitchen to collect the guest’s meal. In our hands are trays of different steaming dishes. Golden scrambled eggs, freshly baked bread, honey-drizzled fruit, and rich tea with mouthwatering steaks. Clanking echoes. I look up to the trembling court maid beside me, cursing under her breath as her hand won’t stop shaking, spilling a few drops of tea onto the tray. If she keeps moving like this, she might end up spilling the entire thing. “Let me take that,” I offer before I can stop myself. She looks at me, shock at first, then relief.
