Cecilia I stared out at the skyline from my childhood bedroom window in my suite within my parents' heavily guarded apartment. Four complete stories of this high-in-the-sky building were occupied by the Abernathys. Three of those floors were residential, equaling in square footage what few people had on acres and acres of land. The lowest floor was where the staff lived and slept. A few of my parents' longtime staff members had their own apartments on that level, others had single rooms, sharing a large kitchen and a joint living area. I'd been down there when I was young when one of my favorite nannies would take me to her room.
