That evening and the morning after, news about the murder of William's parents and arson of countless bodies were all over the internet and news television. Thomas and I were watching the news in the kitchen, having breakfast while concentrating if there were any clips or videos stolen that would reveal what really happened. The incident happened in a public place so there might be someone who caught it on tape. I've sent my people to check on it further and hush every person who may tell the truth behind the incident. Most of all we need to hide the existence of divinities, about Gabriel and Chanyeol. Wiliam and the nanny Thomas hired to take care of the boy joined us at the kitchen. Holding the boy's hand, his nanny said he had a hard time sleeping last night. Of course, witnessing his mom and dad die in front of his eyes will haunt him. His eyes were swollen and the skin around it was rosy red. Poor boy would definitely have a trauma that may haunt him for the rest of his life. Thomas has already explained to the kid that he'll be living here with us and that his mom and dad have moved on to a better place. I'm not expecting him to get over it easily. I have to comfort and assure him that he's not alone. I quickly switched the channel to a kid's station to distract him. Seeing the event again will make him upset, I'm sure of it. "Good morning Daehyun. How are you feeling, honey?" I greeted, flashing a smile as sweet as I could while I walk towards him and crouched down on his level so I could have a better look at him.  He stared at me for a while, studying my face before he uttered words, "You're the lady from yesterday." He muttered softly before forcing a smile. "Mhm.." I hummed then pat his head gently. "You tried to save us from the monsters." Tears started to form in his eyes. The sight of him crying makes my heart feel so tight but it's clear that he's trying to hold back his tears and it breaks my heart. Regardless if he's considered the son of the devil due to his mark, a little boy like him does not deserve to live a life like this... no kid should ever experience trauma. "Yeah, she tried but didn't succeed," interrupted the familiar, deep voice behind me, mumbling lowly. I immediately turn my head and there he was, sitting by the kitchen counter, across Thomas who looked like he almost got a heart attack and was staring at the man in front of him with eyes wide in disbelief, clutching his chest at the same time. Jacob then grabbed the remote and switch the channel back to the news. "If she had killed those monsters when she had the chance, your parents may have still been alive. And she had plenty of chances." He continued. I look back at the boy who seemed to be dazed at Jacob's presence. Then, his gaze slowly turns to the floor, looking at his feet before he looks to me. "He is right. I saw you fight them and the gun you were holding. They shot my dad on the forehead but you shot them on the arms and legs instead." The boy stated. His voice was shaking as tears started to fall off his cheeks but immediately wipe it with his forearm. "No, honey. Killing people isn't right. It will only make things worst." I reached for his cheek and wipe his tears. He pouted and looked straight to my eyes as he started weeping softly. "William, everyone deserves a chance to live. Those people have taken your parents away from you but if I kill them too, I'll be like those monsters and some of those monsters may have a child of their own like you. If I killed them,  I will also take a father away from a son. If those men have a son, like you, they will also be alone. Do you want me to take someone's parents away from their child?" I asked. He looks straight at my eyes and slowly shook his head, continuing to fighting off tears that seem to be endless. "Yeah? But they still took your mom and dad away. They don't think the same as that lady. Do you see those bodies? Those burned bodies? I burned them for you, William. They will no longer take another father or mother away from their son in exchange for money. And besides, why would you care about other kids. They'll have their dads if I had not burned them, but what about you? You're an orphan now. They'll be happy while you'll be like this... all alone. Those monsters were paid to kill you and your parents. If I have left them alive like what that lady wanted to do, they will continue to look for you and kill you if they find you, even the people who will take care of you. They might also kill that lady," Jacob retorted back using the same statement I've just said, in a negative way. He then stood up from his seat and walk towards us, also crouching down in front of the boy. I scowled at him but he's attention is at William. William stared at him, also studying the face of the man in front of him. "You look like the man I dream of." He muttered. Jacob's brows furrowed, tilted his head slightly, looking confused at what the boy had just said. "What dream?" He asked. "It's a scary dream but you always save me." the little boy answered. A smirk formed on the demon's lips, "That's right. I'll always save you from those scary monsters that will try to hurt you. But... in return. You have to listen to every word I sa-" "William," I interrupted, calling for him softly which had immediately earned his attention. Jacob then glares at me after I cut him off.  "William honey, let's have breakfast shall we? Do you like Cheerios?" I asked the little boy while smiling warmly. I feel the demon's death glares while I nudged the boy's arm and successfully gained all his attention. The boy nodded and finally smiled before wiping the rest of his tears that now stopped. I hold out my hand and he gladly took it. I lift him up to sit on the chair in front of the counter and prepared a bowl and spoon for him. Jacob followed and sit across the boy while I brought the milk and cereals before pouring it on his bowl. The boy started eating as soon as I finished preparing. I sat beside William before, my gaze turns to the demon. This man will try to confuse this little boy. He's a step ahead since the boy is familiar with his face through his dreams. And this is why William isn't afraid of him. Chanyeol then looked at me and raised his brow, "Aren't you going to work?" "No, I don't have to leave home every day to work," I replied. "Breakfast?" I offered nonchalantly as I pulled the plates of toasted bread, bacon, and eggs. I grab a toasted bread and took a bite while keeping my gaze at him. "Nah. Not a fan of human food." He looked at the plate of bacon with disgust as he scrunches his nose. I offered the toasted bread I was holding, moving it right in front of his face. He smelled it but scrunched his nose once more as if it has the most horrible smell in the entire world. He shook his head then turn his face the other way,  too revolted on the smell. "What do you eat?" The boy asked looking up at the man in front of him as he munches his cereals. "He sucks blood," I answered, realizing that this may terrify the kid. I pulled a smile so that I would seem like I was kidding. I should be watching my words in front of William. "Like a mosquito?" the little boy asked. He's just a kid and the fact that he still thinks innocently made me smile. "Yes, he's a giant mosquito." I chuckled while Jacob suddenly looked unamused. "Have you heard of vampires?" Jacob asked the boy as he leaned closer to him while crossing his forearms on top of the counter. "Like Edward?" The boy asked. "Who?" Jacob asked in a confused tone, furrowing his brows. I chuckled as I covered my mouth. Kind of funny that his name rivals that of the famous vampire known to teenage girls nowadays.  "Edward Cullen. My mom loves him. She said he's super handsome." The boy answered then took another spoonful of cereals in his mouth. I'm glad he's enjoying the food. At least, he had calmed down now. Was it because of this demon? "He's a vampire?" Jacob asked, brows furrowing tightly "Mmm." The boy nodded while chewing, looking up at him. Jacob then purses his lips as he nods, "I'm like him too. I suck your this lady's blood. She's my food." he replied pointing at me. "Seriously Jacob? Right in front of his Cheerios?" I rolled my eyes. "You're a vampire? That means you sparkle too! Let's go outside." He the little boy's eyes glimmered after the confirmation he received. He hopped down his chair and run towards the man, immediately pulling his hand. I think William just understood the part in which Jacob is like a magical being like that in the movies which I'm relieved about. He's an idea about vampires is not dark and scary. Jacob's eyes widened when he heard the word sparkle. He looked at me with an expression which I understood as what the hell? He looked so confused which is amusing for me. However, I'm surprised that he let the boy take him outside. He seemed so gentle to him action even if the words he uses may be harsh. I followed them out as well together with the boy's nanny and Thomas. It's sunny outside, good weather, not too hot. But Jacob scrunched his nose once more and his eyes squinting as soon as the sunlight greeted him while the boy drags him out in the middle of the lawn. The boy then stopped and looked up to him when they reached the center of the lawn while we stayed under the shade of a wooden roof. I crossed my arms and watch how will the demon react when he finds out that the vampires the boy knew are far from reality. "Unbutton your shirt!" The boy excitedly asked. "What? Why?" Jacob asked as he shades his eyes from the sun using his hand then looks down at the excited boy in front of him. "I wanna see you sparkle!" The boy cheered happily. "What the hell? Sparkle? I don't sparkle." "Eeeh? But you said you're a vampire." The boy gave the man a bewildered look. "I'm not a literal vampire, vampire. Well, they might come from me since I started that plague, but vampires do not sparkle... Like, why in the world would they sparkle? It doesn't make sense." He argues. "They came from you? So you're like the vampires' daddy? Who's the mommy?" The boy questioned. I tried to hold back my laughter as I watch Jacob struggle at the boy's questions. Wait... the breed those monsters came from him? "What?" Jacob asked, looking totally confused and lost. "Let me see your tummy, you should sparkle like Edward if you're really a vampire!" The boy tugged the edge of his white shirt. "The f**k would I sparkle? And who the f**k is Edward?" "Jacob! Language!" I warned. "The f**k I care if I f*****g cuss in f*****g front of him!" He exclaimed, grimacing but still looking confused at the same time "If you don't sparkle then you're not a vampire. You're a liar." The boy pouted and crossed his arms. The man then bites his lips, furrowed his brows in frustration and crouched down to the boy's level. "I'm not a f*****g vampire, kid. I said I'm like that f*****g Edward you're talking about because I drink blood but if he's a vampire then you've gotta be joking" He scoffed. "Vampires do not sparkle. What they looked like when they're out in daylight? Their flesh rots because the sun eats their skin..." He added, creepily speaking. At that point, I lost my smile and started walking towards them. He shouldn't be scaring that child.  "I'm the f*****g demon...." he says before smirk forms on his lips. "Would you like to see how I look like?" He asked. I noticed Jacob's eyes warping to a different color, that of a bright crimson. Then, my heart starts beating rapidly, my feet hastening towards them. I'm afraid of him whenever he changes. It reminds me of when he first fed on me. Before I lost control of myself, I was so terrified of those crimson eyes. I started to run towards them but halfway before I could reach them, I stopped in my tracks, unable to move. I felt the same force that stopped me from moving that night I brought Jacob home and it's preventing me from running to the boy now. And then, the demon opened his mouth slightly, baring his fangs to the boy. But Wiliam didn't even flinch. Instead, he raised his hand slowly as if he's reaching the man's lips. The boy's index finger touches one of his fangs. And then, I felt the force lifted from my body when the sight of Wiliam looking unafraid of the demon have somehow calmed me down. I then just stood on my spot instead of running towards them. "You aren't afraid of him, Wiliam?" I asked. "No," he shook his head. "This is what he is like in my dreams." "You're not afraid, huh?" Chanyeol whispered but his fang pierced the boy's finger as he spoke and blood slowly emerged from the wound's opening. I walked towards them and crouched as well to attend to the boy's wound. But Jacob held the boy's hand gently while his fangs retreat and his eyes warped back to dark brown, his whole aura change back to calm and relaxed. "You're the first human who isn't afraid of me." He muttered before putting the boy's fingertip in his mouth. Seconds later, he pulled it out and to Daehyun's astonishment, the wound healed fast. He was in awe as if he just saw a magic trick. Then, Jacob turns his gaze at me, "You, on the other hand, is frightened of me out of wits." I stared at him, not realizing that I've been caught by him again, looking at his beautiful dark orbs.  It's as if I got dazed again just like William who got dazed the first time he saw him. "Can I go finish my Cheerios now?" The little boy asked and I nodded in response to him. Jacob and I stood up at the same time as we watch the boy skipping his way back inside. "The first human who's terrified but doesn't run away, always trying to fight back." Jacob continued. I look up at him only to find him moving closer to me, then, pulled me closer as he wraps his arm on my waist. "I felt your emotions yesterday. When you were held at a gunpoint, you were afraid," he whispered in my ear, leaning down. My hands unconsciously crawl up to his chest. We're almost like embracing each other in the middle of the lawn but there's still a distance between us. This distance, I'd like to break it. "Truthfully speaking, I admire your courage when you're faced with fear." He continued. He's praising me? My heart starts beating fast, not due to fear but of something else. I need to contain my emotions because I knew he would hear it, the beat of my heart. At the same time, I couldn't breathe normally. I looked up at him only to find him already staring back at me with a soft expression, reminding me of that look he gave me after he had healed my wound. "I'm not good in lying... even if you say I'm a demon, it's one sin I'm bad at. I couldn't trick you with words." He shared, making me chuckle. What kind of demon doesn't know how to lie? "I'll keep you safe Rosé, not because you're food, or a way to kill Gabriel, but because..." he stopped. "Because?" I asked, whispering. A soft smile formed on my lips by the thought that he's starting to be fond of me. Is he really? Or I'm just letting this unusual heartbeat change the way I think. He leans down, closer making my gaze turn to his lips which inches closer to mine "You're an unusual mundane." He replied as a smirk formed on the side of his lips. "Is that your way of saying I'm special?" I chuckled softly. He gave a quick nod before pressing his lips to mine. The kiss surprises me but, I'm somehow expecting it. We are natural enemies but why does this seem so natural? I'm afraid of him but whenever he comes close, I feel a connection with him. My hand immediately slides to his nape as I return his kiss. The first soft, gentle kiss he gave. The distance between us no longer exists as he pulled my waist close to his body and carefully wrapping his arms around me. We then slowly pulled away from kissing but our faces were just a few centimeters away. My hand traces down to his chest as he kept his embrace on me. "I could feel there's goodness in you... You aren't pure evil." I whispered. I'll trust this feeling. This is something else. How could I feel something like this for the enemy if it wasn't meant to be felt? This has got to be something fated.  "You're no pure demon, Jacob. Your need to feed, your hunger has blown your cover. 'Cause if you are pure, you wouldn't feel hungry, you wouldn't something special for a human." I continued. "Don't put too much faith in that hunch. This feeling is nothing more than just lust." He argued. "Even if you say otherwise, I believe you can turn good. I'll help you, Jacob." "Whatever you say." He smiled softly. I wasn't expecting him to retreat to me right away. But, whatever he's planning, I'm gonna find it out and change his mind.  I smiled back at him. Feeling like the weight lifted from my whole body. I've got a great feeling about this. "Don't flash that on me. Too fuckin' bright." He chuckles as he pinches both my cheeks. I happily pulled him back inside the house as I walk ahead of him. I really have a good feeling about this. Please, Father. I humbly asked of you to give this demon a chance to change. --- Unbeknownst to Rosé, the man she's dragging behind her formed an evil grin on his lips, determined to step up his game and hit two birds with one stone. He doesn't know how to lie but he confuses his honesty with his feelings as lust over her blood. It was an attraction due to lust for her body and blood.  Nonetheless, this Lust won't distract him from his plan.
