"Can't we just wait for the elevator?" Victoria looks at me with pleading eyes.
"It's only two flights." I adjust the strap of the duffle bag on my shoulder. "Stop being a wuss and let's go." All summer I've been impatiently waiting to get inside my new apartment. Pinterest has been my best friend when it came to looking for decoration ideas. I want everything to be perfect.
"I'm waiting, you can go right ahead Ms. Impatient." She rolls her eyes at me dropping one of my duffel bags, containing my bathroom decor.
"Okay," I pull the suitcase towards her. "So you can take this with you."
"Oh no, you don't. If I were to take the steps with you, you would be carrying that up there." She kicks the suitcase, it rolls back to me.
"Seriously? It's not like you are carrying it." I begin to walk back slowly. The slower the better. Victoria is the Phineas to my Ferb, the rum to my coke, I could go on and on. We balance one another and it's been an amazing ten-year friendship and still counting.
"What are you doing?" Her eyes widen slightly.
I give her a sly smile and take off up the stairs. I adjust the strap of the duffel bag once more climbing the stairs two at a time. I reach the third floor in no time, looking at the gold plates on the doors, searching for 3A.
Standing in front of my apartment door I dig in my back pocket retrieving my keys. I smile as I insert the key into the lock. This is really happening. I've waited all last semester to live off-campus. My parents gave me a budget and then the search was on. I was shocked to find this apartment was up for rent and no one snatched it up, already. It's about ten maybe twenty minutes away from campus and is by everything. The rent being as cheap is just an added bonus.
Unlocking the door, I slowly open it. Savoring this moment. No more shared bathrooms, no more annoying RAs, and no more messy roommates. I had this place all to myself and it feels good. I wished more than anything that Vicky would have roomed with me, but she preferred the dorm life.
What the hell is that sound?
I walk further into the apartment, the sounds of moans and groans filling the air. I know someone isn't watching porn this loud, I look to the window but it's closed.
"f**k, India." a guy mutters in pleasure.
"What the f**k?" I say to myself walking in the direction of the bedroom. The sounds are getting louder and louder. Tightly gripping the doorknob, I swing the door opened fast and hard. It bangs against the wall. I would have thought they would stopping f*****g one another, but nope he keeps ongoing. "Excuse me?!" I shout.
"I'm about to cum..." he hisses and I look away from their naked bodies.
Their clothes are scattered all around the room, couldn't they crash into someone else's apartment? I see duffel bags in the corner, how long have they been crashing in my apartment? The girl lets out a scream of pleasure and everything goes quiet. I look down at my freshly painted blue toenails before looking back at the two.
The mysterious guy gets off the bed, tossing the used condom into the trash bin. Turning his fully naked body in my direction. He is very tatted. I take his naked physique in before meeting his eyes. A boyish grin is plastered on his face.
"Do you like what you see?" he winks.
"Barley," I reply. "You and your companion have five minutes to get dress and out of my apartment before I call security." I don't wait for a response and close the door. Vicky walks into the apartment huffing and puffing.
"Remind me never to help you again." She drops my bags on the floor, making a loud thud sound.
I grab her upper arm and pull her into the kitchen area. "We have a problem."
"Why are you whispering?"
"I have intruders, they were f*****g on the bed my parents got delivered here last week."
She digs frantically in her purse and I watch her in amusement. "s**t, I can't find my pepper spray." she looks up at me. "Do you have any on you?"
"I wouldn't worry too much about that. These two seemed more interested in the art of love making rather than fighting." I hear the room door open.
The mysterious guy comes strolling down the short hallway, shirtless. The petite blonde right behind him, slipping on her pink jacket. He walks her to the front, letting her out. They exchange a few words and a long kiss.
"He's hot." Vicky places her chin on my shoulder. "If I were into guys, he definitely would be someone I would fuck."
"Thankfully, for you and your v****a, you're into girls." I rest my head onto her. We watch in silence as the two continue to make out. The thing about Vicky and I we weren't normal. When things like this happen normal people would turn around--you know privacy and all. Well, not us apparently. We like to watch and make up scenarios and so on.
"Now the chick is banging and she is more up my alley. I wonder what else her mouth can do."
"Vicky, that's gross."
"No, that's life."
The mysterious guy closes the door, leaning against it. I check him out once more, eyeing the tattoo covering the right side of his chest, shoulder, and entire right arm. Lots of tribal signs and I see a few quotes and skulls.
"You must really like what you see." he licks his lips.
"I would like to see you out of my apartment."
"I think you're mistaken, this is my apartment." he pushes himself off the wall.
"No it's mine. I signed the lease two weeks ago and paid the deposit."
He shakes his head no and walks back towards the bedroom. I'm hot on his heels. "You're going the wrong way." I snap.
"No, I'm going the right way. Let me get my lease to show you this is my apartment."
I stop in my tracks, making an about-face. "Well, I will show you my lease then too." I spot my grey duffel bag that kept the majority of my important paperwork. I dig through a few of my undergarments before my eyes spot the envelope with big capital letters that say LEASE. I take the lease out of the envelope and scan the paper making sure my name is on it. I stand up heading back to the room, mystery guy is already walking my way, with a lease in his hand.
We exchange papers and I look over his.
"Your name is Avery?" He looks up from my lease.
"Your name is Avery?" I repeat, looking back down at his lease.
"Wait a minute," Vicky speaks and I honestly forgot she is here. "Let me see those." she snatches the two leases, her eyes bouncing back and forth. "Holy s**t. This is so epic. Your names are too similar. Avery Levin and Avery Levine. He just has an extra e at the end of his last name."
"That doesn't mean anything. He is in my apartment."
"Technically, according to this, you both live here. You signed the leases the same day. Wow, that's some coincidental s**t" She shrugs her shoulder, handing us back our leases. I look at mine to make sure it was actually mine. "You can always go to the office and have them fix this mistake."
"Well, I'm staying here, so Avery you need to pack up and leave." I glare at him.
"No. I've been here for a week now. I live here...you have to go." he scoffs.
"Uh no. All of this furniture here is mine. My parents got it shipped here last week."
"That makes sense now. I just thought the apartment complex provided furniture since I'm a college student." he walks to the couch plopping down on it.
"Oh my goodness, you're stupid. You thought because you're a college student." I rub my temples. "I'm going to head to the office to get this all straightened out. Let's go, Vicky."
This is absolutely insane.
"That's not going to help. The office is closed already. Fridays they close at two and it's three-twenty-seven. Will you be staying with your friend, on campus I'm assuming?"
"No, you can stay with the blonde that you were screwing on my bed." I take a deep breath.
"Okay, you two. All this bickering is going to get us nowhere. How about I take Avery to my room tonight and then tomorrow you two can figure something out."
"I don't mind sharing a bed with you." he winks at Vicky and she laughs.
"Oh no, not you Avery my Avery and to burst your bubble, I like girls. No swords over here."
He leans forward on the couch. "Wait, you two are a thing?" his eyes sparkle with interest.
"She is my best friend, but that's none of your business. I'll stay with Vicky tonight, but when I get back tomorrow you should be gone."
"No can do. I paid my deposit as well and the frat house is still under renovation."
"You're a frat brother?"
"Yeah, does that bother you?"
"Of course not. That means you have multiple places to stay, so how about you do that, yeah?" I don't want to leave my apartment now that I am here, not even for the night. I just need him gone.
"Once again, nope. You're more than welcome to stay." He eyes me.
"Ugh," I scream, picking up my duffel bag. "You need to be gone by morning," I say through gritted teeth.
Vicky and I walk out of the apartment and all I want to do is punch something anything. I can't believe this, all summer I've been over the moon thrilled to have my own places. Now, it seems like that won't be happening if Avery doesn't leave. I don't know whether to call my parents or just handle it myself. I have until Monday to figure that out, hopefully, he will pack up and leave so it won't get to that part.
"Who would have thought two Averys'? Wow. Sucks to be you right now."
"Oh shut it, Vicky." I playfully bump her into the wall. "He will be out of my apartment by Monday."
"We shall see." she walks down the stairs and I follow behind her. We shall see indeed.
