The door was a shabby white. Black streaks from the rubber soles of all the sneakers that"d once kicked the solid pine barrier stood out as a painful reminder of the past. Silence perforated the room. An ominous one, enough to make her heart leap from her chest in fear. “Are you there?” No response. With tense knuckles, Brianna rapped on the door, startled when it creaked open a few inches. “I"m looking for someone. Is there anybody here?” As she stepped beyond the door into a small parlor, a faint murmur echoed in the room. A violin or a cello. She couldn"t decide. The thumps of her steps were louder and more penetrating. Rounding the corner, the source of the music along with a few dozen people came into view. People that resembled her mother but older and strangely more familiar. “
