The liberal arts academic building, though lit by several lampposts guiding the pathway to the front door, appeared dark and empty. Shadows of great oaks loomed large over the structure, leaving Amalia"s insides unsettled and waiting for something unfamiliar to spook her. She needed to apply ice on her throbbing shoulder before too much swelling had occurred, but first wanted to find Jonah to share her news. Amalia looked around the front of the building, anticipating that the door would be locked, but the knob turned when she placed her hand on its cold metallic surface.
