I quietly slipped out of bed leaving Luke wrapped around my pillow. The passing cold front left a chill in the morning air. I hurried to the outhouse and jogged back to the cabin. We had placed the kindling and firewood in the stove before bed and a quick touch with a match had the paper and kindling crackling. A kettle was ready to heat water for coffee. Pulling on a sweater, my Roots brand sweatpants, and sandals, I took a quick walk along the beach. The waves still had whitecaps, but the lake was likely to settle as the storm front moved further away. At the waterfront in front of the cabin just out of reach of the waves, were a pair of bathing suits, Luke’s boastfully lying atop mine. How typical, I thought before bringing them to the back porch and hanging them on the clothesline. Us
