Chapter 1: Say something. I would rather spend one lifetime with you, than face all the ages of the world alone- JRR Tolkien. *** A month earlier... Today was the first day of school for this semester, I wanted to be happy and try starting over which is impossible for someone like me. I scrambled out of bed and took a hot shower, more hot than usual because I felt my nerves were frozen, most times when I look in the mirror, I feel like I'm turning blue, like I'm dying from the inside. The only thing that I know brought life to me and my body was the thing around my neck, not just anything, my Emerald Pendulum. Surprisingly no one knows till date, how I have it around my neck, my Mom says it's been there since I was born, after the nurse brought me back, it was just there on my neck, they've tried removing it countless times but it seems the rope was enchanted. For now that's all I know about this thingy around my neck. Truth is though, it was now part of me, seeing the pendulum everyday brought me hope and more life than I could define. As the hot water ran down my body, I felt at ease, like as if it was washing away every pain and shadows in my life away, painfully once the shower is over, they'll all come back again. I ran my fingers over the writing that went round my left wrist, most people think it's a tattoo or something, but only my family and close friends know that I was born with this too, I was born with the writing. No one knows or understands what it says, I believe it is written in some anciet language though, because it definitely wasn't English. My timer beeped, I knew my time was up in the shower so I rushed out and got dressed quickly. I put on net leggings and wore a short black skirt over it, I topped it with my purple tank top and finally my black school blazer and my snickers. My school dress code was quite simple, you could wear anything you want so far as you are wearing one of the school's merchandise with it. Like the blazer, or pullover, or just their badge. I went downstairs immediately to have my breakfast and head out, I lived in this massive house with my parents and siblings, or at least I used to. My parents died in a car accident about nine months ago, well not just them, my senior brother, Miles, was in the car with them too and he suffered a concussion and died on the spot, the air bag suffocated my Dad according to autopsy and my Mom well died few days later. Good thing was the government let us keep the house and paid off all our bills, to show their consolation, my parents used to be influencial people, this was the least they could do for us. You might be wandering, who I mean my 'us', since I said I lost my family, well... "Morning Grandma." I hugged her tightly. "Maya..." She has moved in with us, after the tragic event. "Hey lil Sis..." I called out to my junior sister. They were the only two people I had left in my wretched life. Scratch that, did I say two?. Well that's wrong in everyway because my junior isn't supposed to be counted. Why?. My little sister was also in the car with my parents and senior brother too, that very day, according to the story I had gone missing, I honestly don't know how that happened, I can't even remember where I was all I know was that I slept on my bed one night and woke up on the porch the next morning. Well not the next morning because I was told I disappeared for three days... Spooky huh?. They had gone looking for me that night and had a fatal accident, it doesn't make complete sense because they didn't hit nothing, the car just swerved and summersaulted. They all died, my Dad,brother and my Mom, she died three days later though, after I'd return, Immediately after seeing me... She just died, I felt she had something to tell me, but she couldn't talk because of the accident. A part of me switched off or rather died that day. Now all I feel everyday is guilt for going missing and killing my family. As for my little sister, she survived because she was much smaller, she was nine years old, she had suffered a terrible brain concussion and shock. Her case was special, the doctor still consider her case paranormal. She woke up from her coma about four months ago, she gave me hope and I was so happy until the doctors told me her condition. She was braindead due to the shock waves that went through her body and the concussion she experienced during the accident and she was also paralyzed, she has suffered serious spinal injuries, so yes she was alive but as much as it pains me to say it... She was better off dead. She had no mind of her own, she couldn't talk, she couldn't walk, she couldn't do anything by herself, grandma feeds and cares for her, she was just a living vegetable. Up until now, the only thing she's been able to do was use her eyes and twitch her fingers all day, those were the only signs of life left that my sister was still hanging in there and counting on me. I crouched down by her side and held her fingers between mine, looking at her suffer like this, is the worse thing that can happen to me. My vision was already blurry. "Molly I know you're in there, somewhere, if you can hear me, just know I won't stop, I'll keep trying till I can find a solution to you." I sniffed, more tears spilling. "Say something please!." "Say something Molly, talk to me, it's me Maya, your sister, if you can hear me, just roll your eyes, or twitch your fingers or just nod or do something, anything!." I yelled in pain. I felt her jerk in my hand, more tears came. Grannie came and held my shoulder to comfort me as she cried silently alongside. "Please..." I said in a pained, broken and disappointed whisper. *** A/N: This is the first chapter, I just used it to give more insight on what happened, so you can understand every other thing, kindly share if you liked it and leave me comments as well.
