It was very soon when they went to Embers birthplace. Three weeks after the attack on Dagur, they decided to finally visit the king and queen of dragons, Blaze and Enya. They travelled to the island that Ember originally wanted to escape from. They arrived unannounced at a huge castle, since being dragons they needed space to shift. It was also made from fireproof materials since dragons were known for their bad tempers. No one was protecting the walls of the castle which Dagur felt was strange, but again: dragons. Ember was nervous; she didn’t know what her parents would think of her Mate. They couldn’t do anything about it but that didn’t mean they would approve. The huge entrance doors opened, revealing the king and queen. Enya put her hands up to her mouth, her eyes wide with relief and full of tears. Blaze slightly smiled, Dagur knew he wasn’t one to show his emotions freely which made Dagur relax a little. “Mom, dad!” Ember cried out, dropped her luggage and ran to them. They bear hugged together, making Dagur tense back up, feeling like an outcast.
“Where have you been, we’ve been so worried about you! We couldn’t trace you at all!” Enya whined as they hugged, clinging closer to Ember. Blaze broke off the hug. “Come on, dear. Give her space. Who’s with you, a servant?” He asked, glancing at the man standing a few metres away. Ember beckoned him over. Blaze noted how intimidating he was up close, which was saying something since he was the strongest of dragons. Blaze also noticed how his eyes softened when he looked at Ember; it was like his whole demeanour changed. “He’s your Mate.” Blaze observed. Enya’s whines came to a sudden halt, shocked that her baby girl came back with her Mate of all people. “Mom, dad, meet Dagur. My Mate.” Dagur shot out a hand and Blaze shook it politely. He kissed the back of Enya’s hand whilst bowing which he was taught as part of vampire culture. Politeness was key to get what you wanted in that world.
“You were kidn*pped!?” Enya squeaked out. Dagur had to get used to her high pitched voice. Ember finished telling the full story to her parents over tea. The rooms inside the castle were huge and empty, to freely shift into dragons, but it felt unwelcoming for someone outside of being a shifter like Dagur. “Yes mom, but I’m ok now. If it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t have met Dagur.” Ember grabbed Dagurs hand and squeezed. Ember gave them a ‘please accept him’ look, which Blaze wasn’t picking up on. “He’s not good enough for you; he doesn’t even know our language!” Ember rolled her eyes at her dad, who gave Dagur dagger eyes. He didn’t know what to say to appease Embers dad but he didn’t appreciate the accusation. “I can assure you I understand every word you say.” He replied coldly, shocking both the king and queen. His pronunciation was perfect, as if he was a dragon himself. Blaze narrowed his eyes at him once again. Dagurs gaze felt strange against the king. Soul-searching maybe? That was the only way to describe it. Dagur wasn’t even using his abilities. Enya was impressed and easily accepted Dagur. But one thing that was nagging at Ember: why try to marry her off?
After taking tea with her parents, Ember guided Dagur to her room which they would be sharing, with obvious objection from Embers dad. Dagur looked around the room, it was pastel. The walls were a pastel pink with the furniture white with pastel coloured accents. At least the bed was a double, he was expecting a single. “We’ll have to do some decorating when we get back.” Dagur muttered to himself as he looked around the room, Ember was too busy unpacking her stuff to hear, not like she would’ve understood anyway. Dagur took interest in her desk which had some semi-precious gems on it and tools as well as other things he couldn’t recognise. “What’s this?” Dagur asked, Embers head whipped round and went up to him, her head resting on his chest. “I make jewellery; I haven’t done it in so long…” Ember trailed off, brushing her fingers along the gems. Dagur kissed the top of her head, which he recently learned that Ember really liked. “We’ll have to take it all with us... We could move closer to this island.”
“What about work?”
“My work can be moved anywhere.” Embers eye welled up with happy tears as she hugged Dagur tight. “Thank you.” She mumbled against his chest.
“Anything for you.”
Once they were settled, they headed back down to the living room, Embers parents were chatting amongst themselves before they noticed the pair enter the room. Enya shot up from her chair opposite her husbands and went to hug Ember again. Dagur knew as soon as he came that she was a hugger. And a hugger he was not, so when she wrapped her arms tight around Dagurs frame, he patted her back a couple of times, not wanting to encourage any more hugs but also trying not to be rude. “Settled in ok?” Enya asked Ember, who nodded and smiled at her mom.
“It was like I never left.” Ember responded, though Dagur knew that she wanted to leave before but didn’t want to say that to her mom. Dagur wrapped his arm around her waist and squeezed lightly, to make sure she knew he was there to talk to when she was ready. A little squeal came out of Enyas mouth before she went back to her chair. “We knew you’d want to sleep in the same room instead of a guest room, you’re Mates after all!” Enya gave Ember a sly smile which made her blush. “Mom!”
“What? It’s not like we weren’t like rabbits when we first mated. Remember darling?” Enya thought it was a great idea to include her husband in on that embarrassing conversation. Blaze grinned, kissed his wife’s hand and winked. “How could I forget?” A few agonising seconds went by before Ember spoke up. “Why did you want me to be married off?” More agonising seconds. Enya sighed.
“Darling, we didn’t want you to get lonely. We knew how hard it was to find a Mate and years had gone by and you still hadn’t found yours, so we decided to arrange a marriage for you.” Enya replied, teary eyed. “We didn’t know that all this would happen because of our stupid decision!”
“If it wasn’t for all this then I wouldn’t have found my Mate at all! I’ve forgiven you I just… I just wanted to know why.” Enya rushed over and gave Ember a tight hug and once again gathered Dagur into one too. Blaze sat there in silence whilst Enya cried with happiness, knowing that their daughter was finally reunited with them along with her Mate.
“Well, today was… eventful.” Ember sighed and flopped herself onto her bed. It was the end of the day, they all had their evening meal together and chatted but all that they both wanted was to spend time with each other, away from an overbearing mother. “Definitely.” Dagur mumbled as he undid the buttons of his shirt to get ready for bed. They touched each other only once more – the day after – since their first time since Ember wanted Dagur to initiate but he didn’t know how, no matter how much they wanted it they kept it to themselves, saving them from embarrassment if they were rejected. But Ember was a little tired of waiting; she stripped down to her underwear, pretending she was getting ready for bed too. She cleared her throat to get Dagurs attention. She could see how his eyes swiped down her body and back up again as he tried to subtly check her out. Embers arms went around her stomach, a little self-conscious of her body as Dagur went towards her. “Don’t be shy. Please.” Dagur said a little desperately as he cradled her arms in his hands. Dagur knew Ember was beautiful inside and out so there wasn’t a need to cover herself up. He could watch her prance around naked in their home all day but didn’t want to seem like a creep if he voiced that opinion.
Dagur trickled his fingertips down her neck and kissed Ember tenderly. He traced the black bra straps and tucked his fingers under them. “You’ll have to help me out here.” Dagur said, his mouth hovering over Embers ear and the velvet tone of his voice sent a shiver down her spine. Ember moved her arms to her sides. Dagur chuckled. “That’s better.” Dagurs voice did things to Ember that she didn’t want to mention but could feel in-between her legs. She almost moaned but contained it by biting her lip. “…But seriously help me out, do you want this?” Ember said a breathy ‘yes’ and that was all it took before Dagur attacked Embers lips, going in for the kill as his tongue darted in her mouth. They both flopped on the bed this time, with Dagur on top. He kissed down her neck and shoulders, pulling the straps down one at a time. Dagur kissed the top of Embers bra cups; it was a plain black bra that Ember found comfy. Dagurs fingers followed his mouth and he fondled Embers n****e through the fabric before sliding down her stomach and down into her blue panties, not matching her bra – which Ember found was even comfier when it was off and thrown onto the floor – but who cared? “Dagur.” Ember breathed out his name as he found her c**t and slowly, teasingly rubbed. Dagur looked into her eyes, enjoying Embers expression as his finger slid inside her. “Nice?” He asked and Ember quickly nodded before pulling him into a passionate kiss, the fire within her igniting for another reason other than anger. Dagur pulled his finger out as Ember was undoing his jeans and tugging them and underwear off. It didn’t take long until a condom was on and Dagur was buried in her, their mouths locked as he thrusted, Embers hips moving in time with his. They tried to be as quiet as they could but some moans escaped Embers mouth, which Dagur silenced with a deep kiss. He held her hips tight and with three hard thrusts Dagur came. Ember didn’t o****m but felt satisfied. More kissing ensued and Dagur softened inside, he pulled out and smiled sweetly at Ember, stroking her cheeks and kissing them, her forehead, nose and lastly her mouth before holding Ember close until they felt they had to get ready for bed.
“Where are the other dragons?” Dagur asked Blaze as they were preparing for an introduction ceremony that was apparently sacred within the dragon clan. Enya asked about it a few days ago, wondering when Ember was going to mention it to Dagur, after an explanation of introducing him into the clan by performing a sacred ceremony, Dagur agreed and preparations started almost immediately. He wanted to be part of the clan, since he wasn’t in one at that moment, and wanted to be part of the family. He wanted to fit in. Dagur spent more time with Blaze and felt his laid back attitude towards things made Dagur feel more comfortable. “They’re here; they just know to back off a little as you and Ember settle in. You’ll meet everyone during the ceremony.” Blaze replied as he hauled tables and chairs outside into a beautiful garden surrounded by flowers, trees and a lake that situated a little way away. It was like the castle had been built smack bang in the middle of nature. Mountains could be seen in the distance and Dagur wondered if dragons lived on or around them. Throughout the days of getting to know Embers parents, Dagur noticed how independent they were compared to other monarchs, they didn’t have servants at their beck and call and they did all the chores themselves. Dagur also realised the reason why the castle was huge was not because of the amount of rooms, but the amount of space that was needed to accommodate dragons so he gathered it was easier to clean a few huge rooms rather than loads of little ones. “How many of you are there?” Dagur asked, placing the last of the stacks chairs into the garden, with Blaze right behind him with a table. He placed it down and replied sadly, “Not a lot, really. There’s only about twenty adults and six baby shifters around these days. Dragon scales are highly valuable so we’ve been hunted until it was finally banned.” Dagur hummed in acknowledgement, not really knowing what to say. They both arranged the seating and tables and looked at their handiwork together, pleased with the finished product.
A few more days went by and the preparations were finally complete, an archway was outside, covered with flowers, gems and feathers. The seating was in front of the arch, it was like an outdoor wedding. Enya described it as such but it held more meaning according to dragon culture. Only the clan was invited, mainly to show the new member off, and they were already seated and excited to see the soon-to-be member. Fairy lights were also strung around the seats and the arch, winding around the flowers which made them sparkle and the gems reflected the light. It was really beautiful. Not as beautiful as Ember, who came outside wearing a white lacy dress and her hair in a plaited bun decorated with the same flowers and feather which Dagur recognised as her own. Dagur was in a black suit with the same feathers pinned to the lapel of his suit jacket. They both walked hand-in-hand as instructed during practice and stopped when they were underneath the archway. The shifters looked pleased for their princess to finally find her Mate and more importantly coming back to her homeland. King Blaze held out his arms as a sign of welcoming Dagur into the clan. “Dragon Clan members, we are here to witness a very special occasion. My daughter, Ember, has come back to us along with her Mate, Dagur!” Everyone clapped and cheered, excited about the whole ceremony. Blaze held out his hand to settle them down. Once silent, he continued, “We are to welcome Dagur into the clan with open arms and help form a bond between Ember and Dagur that will bring them closer, stronger and harmonious, bringing their souls together to form one!” As if on cue, a bowl of glistening liquid materialised along with Enya and was passed to Ember. From what Dagur was told, the water bound the couple together to finish the mating bond they had started. “With this sacred liquid, Ember and Dagur will complete the mating process, binding their souls together, even after death.” Ember fed the liquid to Dagur and he did the same with Ember, lifting the bowl to the opposite’s lips to feed them the sacred liquid. Once the last drop was drunk, light surrounded their proof of their mating – their bite marks – and created a circle around them, showing that the mating process was complete. Emotions ran through them both like adrenaline, neither one could see anyone else but each other. In reality, everyone around them hollered and cheered their congratulations, taking photos to commemorate the ceremony. They both grinned and kissed each other slowly, tenderly, lovingly and it was at that point they knew they were meant for each other. Their souls as one. Forever.
