Demon, Demonist and Death

2145 Words
I blink for what it seems a hundred times or maybe even more. I desperately want the monsters to disappear to wherever hell they came from. But no amount of conviction can do that. The more I try to tell myself that they are just figments of my imagination the more they become freaking real to my mundane eyes. I would gladly give myself a good pinch but the burning in my exposed skin suffices the action. I close my eyes. Waking is the only worthy escape I can muster in my situation. If it's only just a dreadful dream. Please just let me wake up already! No! I cry helplessly. I don't want to be with the hideous creatures. I don't want to be here. I want a quiet dinner with my family. Oh god! This isn't what I wished for, I only want to get away from the monotony but this is one crazy s**t. I want it undone if it got to do with that stupid birthday wish. Please let it be undone! A tagging feeling forces me to open my eyes. It's as if I am drawn to the monsters. Without knowing it, my feet step towards them and a deep throaty sound greets my ears. I catch the sight of humongous frog-like creatures with six big eyes each with dark irises that keep focusing on different directions. They are hopping around in circles, catching the thousand swarming flies with their long tongues. My stomach squirms in retaliation. I lick my drying lips, ball my fists, and turn in the opposite direction. It's not a good idea though, there are more murderous looking monsters that way. One is the goat-like creature that stands on two feet. It's a creature I only read in fairy tales and those stories never mention them being covered in fleshy wounds. I gag as the smell of rotten meat fills my nostrils, the wounds of the goat are getting feasted by maggots the size of my thumb. I almost throw up when suddenly the goat raises its hand to pick one of the maggots on its face and pop it in its mouth and chew. The juices of the maggot run down the side of the goat's mouth. Ugh! I couldn't help but cringe at the sight. I clench my arms tighter to my stomach making its contents stay where it is. And once again, I divert my gaze to the opposite direction.  There's no escaping the monsters they are in every direction. Another set of monsters are within my view, a flock of black shadow-like creatures. They are as black as the night sky when the stars are in hiding. The only thing not that is black on them are their big hollow white eyes. I inhale deeply as beads of sweat start to cover my whole body. Panic, building from my insides, my breathing becomes ragged and I cast my eyes upward to meet the sky. To my disappointments, I'm only greeted by a hundred flying creatures. There are dragons in the sky! And hundreds of other creatures that my mind couldn't comprehend anymore. The rotten smell in the air began to mix with burnt flesh. My hand instinctively covers my mouth extending to my nose. The monsters haven't noticed me yet and I want it to stay that way. I try to stop the uncontrollable shaking of my body but my brain won't listen to anything I say. And the many times I tried and failed I still close my eyes. I count silently and hope that maybe this last time something will happen. One. Two. Three. Four. Five...Fifty-nine. Sixty. The cat starts hissing, it's still in my leg. It began to panic at something. I peer my eyes open and the horrors just keep coming. The monsters have already learned about my presence, a hundred pairs of hungry eyes dart in my direction. I stifle a cry, keeping a brave face. I don't want to die yet! I don't want to get eaten alive! Move! NOW! JUST f*****g MOVE! It's no use at all. Why? Why won't you listen to me! My heart races like a horse galloping a million miles per hour. I don't want to die! Oh my god! This is not what I want! Please, God help me! I pray over and over in my head. I would resort to anything just to get out of this nightmare I am in. I won't even get mad if cameras start popping out of nowhere to announce a stupid joke, anything is better than what I have. Hear me, God, please! Someone might tell me that all I need is faith. Prayers are going to be my salvation and maybe it really is A booming voice shouts silencing the monsters, "Regna terrae, cantata Deo, psallite Cernunnos, Regna terrae, cantata Deo, psallite Cernunnos!" Out of nowhere a man in a black cloth starts spurting weird words at the creatures while holding out a big cross and a book with leather covering. He's fighting an invisible force that pushes him backward. "Regna terrae, cantata Deo, psallite Cernunnos, Regna terrae, cantata Deo, psallite Cernunnos!" He keeps repeating, the veins in his neck are bulging with anger. "Demins inferos redire!" with one final shout everything goes still. A huge swirling hole appears in the sky and sucks in all the creatures at once. The snowing stops along with the smell of burnt rotting flesh. It all stopped, magically as my prayers been answered. I let out all the air I'm holding. I stood there the whole time, without batting an eyelash and uttering any words. I almost forgot to breathe. I don't know how long the battle between the monsters and the mysterious man lasted it happened so fast before I can even make a reasonable explanation inside my head. Surprisingly I make it till the end and no collapsing happened. I handled myself very well. Though, I cannot help but question myself, am I really safe now? Who is this guy? I need to go home. I need to see my parents, calm myself, and sleep. Right! I need to go home. Oh god! This is not what I meant by something interesting! This is way over the top, out of ordinary! Maybe I am crazy? Who knows? "Come on, Mariah we have to go. I can't ward them that long. They are lesser demons but they are too many" the man says, as he grabs my arm. I snap out of my internal hysteria. The guy knows my name. He knows my name! I'm being overdramatic, but he freaking knows my name! Nothing is making any sense at all. I struggle from his grip and pulls my arm away.  "Wait! Do you know me? How? And those creatures?" I banter out of a sudden, questions after questions. I want to trust him. He saved me for the love of the lord. But something tells me that I shouldn't. His eyes are the same color as the cat's eyes! And that voodoo magic that made the monsters go away. He is a stranger that came out of nowhere the same way as the monsters. Who is to say that he is not a bad guy? After what I have been through, I shouldn't be trusting anyone with 'magic'. "I have no time to explain everything to you but, I was sent by your parents. Now come on." He grabs me again. My parents? No. They can't know someone like him. They are too ordinary to be affiliated with a guy such as he is. Are they hiding things from me? No, they won't. I know they won't. Before I can even voice out my thoughts the man lifts me and carry me like a potato sack. I struggle but he's too strong for me. All my efforts are just put into the trash. "Put me down!" I shout as I kick my legs on his back. He stays ignoring me, keeping a deaf ear through all my shouting. I stop struggling. "Why won't you out me down? Hey you!" There's still no answer. "Hey! those creatures. What are they?" I continue to pester him. Does he plan to walk the entire way? And we're in the wrong direction. My car is in the other way. "Those are lesser demons, based on the flies, they are probably sent by Belzeebub." "Demons? Belzeebub? Are you high on something? Totally not helping! Plus, this is not my way home!" The man dumps me on the ground, letting me fall on my butt.  "Ouch!" I shout, giving him a deadly glare when I notice my jeep. But that can't be right I've been running for more than half an hour and he walked less than five minutes. "Get in," he says pointing to my jeep. "No. It's not working. It stopped. Why are you even ordering me around?"  He looks impatient, his left eyebrow raises with the click of his tongue. "I would rather like you to get there on your own." Jerk, I grumble in my head. I stand up, dusting my injured butt, and enter the car without another protest. I take the passenger side as he decided to be the driver. I am very much tired, the only thing I am open to do is to go home and have some rest. I glance at the man with a questioning look, he doesn't have the key or... Dammit! I left the keys on the ignition. He turns it and the car starts with ease. "How the hell?" I ask him as we drive off.  He smirks at me. I am not gonna be taken by that smile. I shake my head. "It's the work of the demons, they put you on a loop. You can check your phone now." I did as I was told. I look at my phone and for the love of God, the bars are up! Magically like everything that just happened. I sigh. I try calling my mom and dad but both go to voicemails so I put it back in my pocket. There's a nagging feeling at the back of my head, telling me it's not over yet. There's something wrong but I dismiss it with another shake of my head. All the thinking and the demon thingies are making my brain burst open. I put my hands on my face cradling my hurting mien. Then, I remember the cat, I look in the rearview mirror and it's on the backseat, licking its paws like a normal cat should be doing.  "What's with the cat? You have the same eyes as him! And, please, explain in English I can't understand anything you are saying!" I come off a bit too harsh. Well, I'm tired and frustrated. No one can blame me!  "He's a lesser demon." I gape at him with this and peer at the cat once more. The man holds up his hand to stop me from butting in. "And my pet, we are connected. You see, I don't have the ability of the sight. I can't...um, really see demons but with the help of my cat, Boris, I see them. I borrow his eye. I know you don't understand but, soon you will," he explains further. I gawk at him, his eyes are now both green. How? Everything keeps getting weirder and weirder by the passing second. He said he borrows the cat's eyes. So maybe? I snap my neck at the cat. Great! The cat's eyes are now both yellow. The man laughs beside me. Though there is nothing is funny at the moment.  The car stops and I'm home. He pulls out at our drive and as soon as the ignition dies, I jump out. Something's not right, the dreadful feeling just keeps knocking on me wanting to get in, the hairs on my back are standing again. I got to check with my parents. It's too quiet, it's too unnatural... "Something's not right. I can feel it," I tell the guy before we enter my house. He raises his hand, signaling me to stay at his back. He turns the knob. "Ah!" A scream fills my ear. I hold on to the guy, trying not to crumple on the floor as I realize it was me who screamed. I run inside where my parents lie. Karen and Hayden are on the floor soaking their own blood. White as the paint on the walls. "No! Mom! Dad! No, you can't die on me. No! No! NO!" I cry as I hug them. The man checks my dad's pulse then he shakes his head. No, my daddy!  This is all just a dream! I need to wake up! Wake me up! Oh god, mommy! daddy! No...
