Chapter 2

Kimberly: That crazy beeping sound refused to stop even when I pulled the pillows closer to my ears to block it out. I could still hear the ringing in my dream, disrupting whatever hope I had of a good sleep, the frustration spreading as I tried to reach for the goddamn phone. " Hello..." I muttered into the phone, voice grudgy from sleep. " Kim? Oh thank the f*****g gods! Are you okay?" Sonia's voice floated out through the other end of the phone, leaving me half awake now. I hummed. " I'm fine I guess. I have a slight headache and the sun is..." " For f**k's sake Kim! I leave you for two minutes and the next thing you do is cause a commotion and leave?" My head hurt. I placed two fingers to my temple, gently massaging it as I tried to remember what she was going on about now. " Leave where?" I asked instead. I could almost envision her face palming on the other end of the phone, a habit she had somehow managed to grow over the years. " Do you even remember anything from last night?" That triggered something in my head. Slowly, it all came back to me in snippets. Oh. I had gone to a club? Ryan that f*****g b***h! " Kind of? When did I leave the club? Commotion?" " Where are you now?" She asked instead. That was when I took the liberty to look around. The room painted grey with sheets that felt like luxury and the faint scent of masculine cologne that clung to the air. Shit! I sat up straight on the bed, praying that whatever sad nightmare I had just entered was about to end. " I don't know where I am, Sonia" I whispered into the phone as though it was now a secret. " Of course you don't. You were too drunk to even remember your own name. I will send you a video, watch that s**t and get your memory back so you know how cooked you are." My phone dinged and I opened the message from Sonia that has just popped up. It was a video. A dimly lit club with the music turned all the way down and I could vaguely recognize my strapless red dress and my high pitched voice slurring as I cursed out at the man in front of me. Yes! Ryan! I remembered him walking into the club and then going to confront him but... In the video, it was not Ryan. It was a stranger. Finally, I could see things that my too drunk self did not notice. The look of shock in his eyes as I hit him, his hands trying to prey me away as I pulled at him, demanding justice. Shit. " Sonia, you won't believe me if I told you but I could have sworn it was Ryan! I saw him walk through the door and who the hell is this man?" " That is Noah Russo. A senior year hockey player in school who you, just assaulted with evidence." My face dropped and my stomach suddenly felt queasy. Perhaps I wanted to throw up? " I need to get out of here..." I was saying but just almost immediately, the door opened and a man stepped in. I stared from the person who just walked in back to my phone. My eyes bulged. It was the same man! I felt the scream escape my lungs as my fingers suddenly felt like jello. " Kimmy? What's wrong? Are you okay?" I could hear Sonia attack me with a tirade of questions. " He is here Sonia...he is here" I managed to whisper yell into the phone. " Who is there?!" She was saying but I ended the call to face this man. I gulped. His face was a cross between anger and perhaps just not caring. I got up, adjusting my now soaked sweat gown. " I just want to say that I had no idea what was going on yesterday. It is such a shame and I am never like this I promise you but when I saw you, funny story, but I thought you were my ex? I...I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm sorry." I watched his eyes furrow with what could have been amusement or perhaps more anger but he did not say anything. Instead, he just dropped the sweats on the bed, his eyes roaming me as he sighed. " Freshen up and come downstairs. It's time to clear the mess that you made." That was enough to unnerve me. My heart thrummed in my chest as I watched him slam the door shut before reluctantly picking up the new set of clothes. My mind spiralled as I showered, wondering what would happen to me now that I was facing a possible law suit.. Urgh. f**k Ryan. Stupid man slut. I had a good mind to escape the house through the window but the room was on the seventh floor and I had always had a thing for heights so even as I waddled downstairs to what could as well be my fate, I was still contemplating just rushing and jumping out the window to face my fears. "She finally graces us with her presence" a voice said. They are three men, Noah Russo and two other men. One in a corporate suit and the other one casually dressed. " Let her be. Come, take a seat."the other man said. I hesitated, but eventually took a seat. The man in suit gently slid me a file and a pen. I stared at it perplexed. " Please you don't have to sue. I am deeply apologizing and..." " That is not what the document is about..you can read through it if you would like" the man said. I paused. I flipped through the first page. Public partnership compliance agreement. I furrowed my brows as I scanned the documents again in surprise. What? " What is this?" The man in suit cleared his throat softly. " My name is attorney Bruce and I'm the lawyer of Mr Noah Russo here. The document in your hand is a fake relationship agreement." I paused again, the confusion settling all over again. " I don't understand?" " Your little debacle yesterday has cost my client a lot. He had lost team value and he is about to lose a major contract for his sports career." " That is why I'm apologizing?" I said again, subconsciously pushing the documents away from me. Noah snorted. " Of course, because your apology will fix my deal with Calvin Klein" Maybe it was from the hangover or just the sheer misunderstanding of what was happening, but I could feel another headache coming up. " So...what do I do?" " The only way to get back the brand endorsement and become seen as trustworthy by the world again is if the public believes you are his girlfriend and you just got drunk and said all that in a slip of your words. And for that to happen, you have to be in a fake relationship with him" I was dazed. I stared from the attorney to Noah Russo, wishing they would just burst into a big laughter and tell me about how much of a misunderstanding all of this is. But they didn't. They are being serious?! " What no, I'm not doing that!" I said. The attorney sighed, pushing the documents back to me. " It's either that or we will be forced to sue"
