The Good Ones

BACK THEN...

In the beginning, there were humans. Humans with common occupations: fishing, farming, and hunting. Every day was just a normal day. Nothing looked abnormal. Nothing looked different.

It all began in the 14th century. It was just a usual, normal day. The sun was already setting, and a hunter was clearing the weeds from his pathway. He had earlier set a trap nearby. From a distance, he could see that an animal had been trapped.

"Alas!" he screamed joyfully. "My trap has caught an animal!" He kept repeating it until his friends in the nearby bush came to join him in jubilation.

It had been a long time since a hunter had caught an animal. It was even said that the ground had swallowed all the animals because of someone's wrongdoing. That hunter knew that even the king would give him a prize for trapping an animal, and he also knew that everyone in the village would give him the honor he deserved. With all those exciting thoughts in his mind, he kept smiling.

"Bimba, you caught an animal! Today we are going to enjoy meat! For sure, I know everyone will see your worth," a man, who seemed to be Bimba's friend, pointed out.

"Yes, yes, I know. For sure, it is my brother," Bimba smiled, looking at the animal his trap had caught from a distance.

"What are we waiting for? Let's go get that animal!" another man shouted from behind as he raised both of his hands happily.

They all agreed, moving toward Bimba's trap with endless chatter and loud laughter.

Then one of them stopped.

"Umm... brothers, I think I see a wing, or..." a man murmured as he stepped closer. Instantly, the laughter died. The chitchat stopped.

"Yeah... I... I see wings too. Are... are we sure that's an animal?" another one stammered. "The wings are huge!!" he almost screamed, his voice shaking with terror.

They moved closer, slowly this time.

Then — BOOM.

What they saw next shattered them completely. It was the most horrifying thing they had ever seen since the day they were born into this world.
