When Fire Falls

772 Words
The Vale Estate was burning. Not in flames—but in betrayal, in fury, in secrets erupting like lava under velvet floors. Nyra Vale stood in the heart of the grand hall, her phone pressed to her ear, her voice a blade. “Leak everything. The files, the footage, the connection between Silas and Daniel. I want it all public before midnight.” On the other end, her hacker contact simply replied, “Done.” She hung up and turned. Ares stood behind her, shirt unbuttoned, tension rippling through his frame. “You’re really doing this?” he asked. Nyra met his eyes. “They want to strip us bare, Ares. So I’ll strip the masks first.” He came closer, the storm in his gaze matching the thunder that boomed outside. “And when they retaliate?” “Let them,” she whispered. “I’ve bled before. I’ll bleed again. But not for nothing.” --- Across the city, Silas Virell sat in a glass penthouse, sipping cognac as news alerts exploded on the screens before him. BREAKING: EXPOSED — SILAS VIRELL LINKED TO BLACKMAIL AND BIO-LOCKED HOSTAGE OPERATION The footage played: his conversation with Daniel, the lab holding Elias Caine, the surveillance of Nyra. His face remained stone. The scar-faced man beside him grinned. “Should I kill the Devlin boy?” Silas tilted his head. “No. Not yet. He’s more useful alive. For now.” He stood. “But it’s time the world saw Nyra Vale not as a queen… but as a traitor.” --- Back at Vale Estate, Ares paced. “They’ll come for me next,” he said. “I’m the perfect distraction.” “They already are,” Rhea said, entering the room, tablet in hand. She tapped the screen. A press conference was being announced for the next morning. LIVE AT 9 AM: ARREST WARRANT ISSUED FOR ARES DEVLIN ON CHARGES OF CORPORATE FRAUD AND CONSPIRACY Nyra’s breath caught. “They’re going to humiliate him.” Ares smiled grimly. “Let them try.” Nyra turned to him. “No. We don’t wait anymore. We fight on stage.” He blinked. “What do you mean?” “We crash their press conference.” --- That night, Nyra dressed in black. No silk. No lace. Just war. She and Ares drove in silence, rain blurring the city lights. The world outside was a cage of glass and lies. But inside the car, their hands remained clasped. He kissed the back of her hand. “No matter what happens out there—” “We burn together,” she finished. Their eyes met. Fire met fire. --- The next morning, the press swarmed outside the courthouse. Cameras. Reporters. Screaming questions. Ares Devlin was the headline. Until Nyra Vale stepped onto the steps. In heels. In silence. She walked to the podium, ignoring the flashing lights. “This is not a confession,” she said. “It’s a war cry.” Gasps echoed. She turned to the projection screen behind her. “Here’s what your media didn’t show you.” The video began. Footage of Silas. Elias Caine in the tank. The wire transfers. Daniel’s confession. The crowd erupted. Journalists scrambled. Officials shouted. Nyra’s voice rose above them all: “Silas Virell is the monster. And I’m his daughter’s fury.” Then she dropped the mic and walked away. Behind her, Ares stood in handcuffs. But he was smiling. --- In a cold steel van, Ares sat cuffed between two officers. Across from him, a man in uniform leaned forward. “You really think she can save you?” Ares smirked. “No. I know she’ll burn the world to ash for me.” Suddenly, a crash. The van swerved. Smoke exploded around it. The door was ripped open— Rhea. Wearing a mask. Holding a gun. “Get in,” she said. Ares didn’t hesitate. --- At a hidden safe house on the cliffs, Nyra watched the flames on her laptop screen. DEVLIN ESCAPES CUSTODY – POLICE DENY COMMENT She shut the screen. Ares stepped into the room, rain still on his skin. She ran to him. Their kiss this time was different. Not desperate. Not wounded. It was the calm before the next storm. “I’m not done,” she said. “I wouldn’t love you if you were.” She smiled. But then— BOOM. The window shattered. A bullet grazed Ares’s arm. He staggered back. Blood. Nyra screamed. Rhea tackled them to the floor. More bullets. A voice shouted through the chaos: “Bring me the girl. Kill the rest.”
