Faye's POV
I was lost in thought all through the journey back home. I kept drifting in and out as Zoe chatted heartily to me while driving me back home. My mind kept going back to the strange male with the dark dangerously handsome brooding eyes. I couldn't help but wonder who he was and how he knew my name.
"You are sure you want to go in there?" Zoe asked once again bringing me out of my reverie.
I looked at her then around to see that he was parked outside the house. I didn't even know how or when we got there. I was so wrapped up in thought.
"Of course I want to go in there. It is my house," I said then chuckled lightly.
"You have been distracted ever since we started driving back. I assumed that maybe the thought of going back home isn't sitting well with you," Zoe said shrugging but there was concern in her eyes.
No, I had been distracted since my encounter with the strange male in the store's bathroom, but Zoe obviously didn't notice, because we were still shopping for makeup.
"I am fine," I said with a small smile then quickly switched the topic "Rex and I will be leaving for the Alphas' convention tomorrow. I will miss you."
"As I will miss you too. Make sure you call me," Zoe said and I promised to call her before I got out of the car and waved at her as she drove off.
When she was out of sight, I sighed loudly before walking into the house holding my bags with a distracted look on my face.
I had to ring the bell since my hands were full and getting my key card would be an axle. The housekeeper opened the door with a grim look on her face. She didn't have to say anything. I already knew that Rex was home and probably hitting the roof about me being out of the house.
"Welcome Luna," the housekeeper said with no trace of a smile on her face.
"Thank you. Please keep these things in my room," I said giving her the bags I was holding. She collected them and walked into the room while I stood there to face Rex who looked angry enough to murder.
"Where are you coming from Faye?" Rex asked. He was still dressed in his work clothes. Only the suit was off but the shirt, jacket, and trousers were still in place.
I didn't know when it happened or how it happened but I suddenly didn't feel scared of his anger or heartache because he was looking at me in disgust. It was the feeling I knew so well but the new feeling was strange and I preferred it.
"I am sure that you didn't miss me because you sure had a more preferred company," I said casting a glance at Veda before looking him right in the eyes with a boldness that said I didn't give a damn about his thought.
He frowned slightly as if he was surprised but he quickly banked it and said, "That doesn't answer my question."
"Well, I went shopping with my friend. We leave for the Alphas' convention tomorrow. I needed a few things," I said flippantly.
"You have clothes at home that you could take along. Why the wasteful spending?" Rex asked folding his hands on his chest dramatically.
I rolled my eyes before saying, "Wasteful spending. You have been taking Veda and her son shopping every other week since you brought her into our home. That is not wasteful spending but the minute I decide to get one or two things, it becomes wasteful spending. Stop being a hypocrite Rex," I sneered.
"Since when did you start talking back at me Faye? I am sure that a friend of yours is influencing you negatively. If you push me Faye, I will stop you both from seeing each other ever again," Rex threatened.
I didn't hold back. I laughed so hard that Rex and Veda exchanged glances wondering if I had gone mad.
"You jest, Rex. The worst that will happen is for me to walk away from this marriage. I will never give up my friendship with Zoe. Never!" I said after I stopped laughing.
"Excuse us, Veda. I need to talk to Faye," Rex said quietly.
Veda was surprised that he said that but she was ready to do as he had said. Before she could move I stopped her.
"You don't have to excuse us, Veda. There is nothing we need to discuss," I said then made a move to leave.
The instant I lifted my leg to walk away, Rex was on me. He held my hand so hard that it hurt before he yanked me into his chest. I gasped in surprise.
"You are ..." Rex was saying then he suddenly stopped. First, he looked confused before he bent his head and sniffed me. He pushed me away in anger as he growled out loud.
I lost my balance and would have hit the floor if the housekeeper had not been fast enough. Rex growled loudly again before he started walking towards me. The housekeeper quickly let go of me and disappeared into the kitchen. Rex's aura was loud and it permeated every nook and cranny of the room.
"You reek of Dacre. I would recognise that stench anywhere. I had thought that the scent was familiar the night you returned from the club. How dare you mingle with my enemy?" Rex growled so loud that I had to cover my ears.
"I don't know what you are talking about," I said defending myself.
"Liar!" Rex growled again "His smell is imprinted into your skin."
"I don't know what you are talking about. Yes, I met a male at Zoe's store and we had mistakenly collided. But I don't know what you are saying about imprinting on my skin," I had to lie. Rex looked like he was losing control.
"Dacre was at the store? That son of a b***h had only said he was passing through my pack. Why was he at the store?" Rex asked as the veins on his forehead and neck seemed to retreat a little.
"I don't know who Dacre is or why he was at the store. I think you should ask him and leave me out of it," I said then quickly walked away from there.
I was almost running to my room. The moment I entered, I closed the door and rested my back against it breathing heavily. The strange male had a name. Dacre.
