Faye's POV
"You don't look happy seeing him leave. You must love him very much," Veda said when Rex was out of sight and out of earshot.
I was looking down at my plate as she spoke. I closed my eyes and tried calming myself. The past six months since Veda moved into our home had been the worst period of our marriage but I had kept calm all along.
She had practically turned herself into his wife while I was the figurehead Luna who attended functions with him and smiled even when I felt like crying.
"You should mind your business Veda," I said then continued to eat even when I didn't feel like putting anything in my mouth.
"Have I said anything wrong?" Veda asked pretending as if she didn't know why I was asking her to mind her business.
I didn't answer her as I kept putting the food in my mouth and chewing even if it felt like I was chewing on a tasteless piece of rubber.
"I understand that you want to spend time with him but he is an Alpha you know, he is bound to be busy," Veda pressed making me roll my eyes.
"Maybe if you don't act so coy and crave his attention all the time, he would have time for his wife," I said bitterly.
"He doesn't sleep in my room, does he? No matter how much time he spends in my room, he still comes to your room to sleep. So how am I taking all his attention from you?" Veda asked in pretended innocence.
I dropped my spoon and looked up at her solemnly then said, "You are not as innocent as you try to make yourself seem. I just hope he is not too blinded to see who you truly are."
"You begrudge your mate of taking care of his late brother's son and widow?" Veda asked frowning. Not for one day had I said anything against her or to her son since she moved into our home but I was beginning to get irritated with her fake innocence. I stood up and fixed her with an angry gaze.
"You are his brother's widow yet you both look at each other as if you want to have each other for the next meal. I am sure that your husband is rolling in his grave right now because of your actions. His body is not even cold yet and you are already lusting after his brother," I said with bitterness.
There was a limit to what each person could take and for me, I was at my limit with everything that was going on. Veda was getting on my last nerve. She probably thought I was a weakling with the way I had allowed everything to happen without saying anything.
"Are you accusing me of something, Luna Freya?" Veda asked raising a brow in mockery. Calling me Luna was her way of telling me that I was just his Luna while she was his love interest.
"Leave my home and never come back," I said then turned to leave but her next words stopped me.
"Jealousy doesn't suit you, Luna. You should know that you are not his fated mate, you are his chosen. In fact, he was forced into marrying you. If he didn't marry you, the Alpha position would have been passed to my late mate," Veda said stopping me in my tracks.
I turned around to look at her while trying to take in the feelings in my heart. I didn't know that Rex was forced into marrying me. He was smiling the day he came for me and he was smiling and looked happy the day we got married.
"What are you trying to say?" I asked.
"It is simple, you don't think he was in love with someone else before he was forced to marry you?" Veda asked and at that moment, something hit me. Veda was Rex's lover before he married me!
"I do not understand what you are trying to say Veda but all I know is that it is shamelessness that will make you lust after your late mate's brother," I said.
"Are you calling me shameless?" Veda asked frowning in anger.
"Are you not going to deny the fact that you are lusting after your late mate's brother?" I asked.
I had expected her to deny lusting after Rex but instead, she was bothered about being called shameless.
"I do not understand why you will accuse me of wanting your mate. He is just taking care of his late brother's son and mate," Veda said and I chuckled bitterly.
"You know what? I don't see why I should be talking to your type," I said then walked away from there.
I decided at that moment. Once Rex returned, I would tell him to move Veda and her son out of our home. He should get them an apartment. He had brought her without telling me about it but I had swallowed the disrespect and let her stay. That had to end.
Later that day, I was in my room when I heard Rex calling my name as if the building was burning. I was arranging some jewellery a client had ordered with the help of a maid. I didn't know that he was back since I rarely ventured out of my room anymore except when it was highly necessary.
Before I could drop what I was holding to go out, the door burst open and Rex walked in with his eyes blazing. The maid quickly got the memo and excused herself.
"Why were you calling my name on top of your voice like that?" I asked Rex standing in front of him. He was breathing hard as the vein in his neck was evident.
"What did you say to Veda?" Rex asked.
"I said nothing to her. Besides you should probably ask her since she is the one who came running to explain to you," I said.
"She didn't explain anything to me. I came back and met her crying. She said you said something to her," Rex said while his chest rose and fell with the intensity of his anger.
"Crying? She is just pretending to be hurt to get your attention. Can't you see?" I said heatedly as I realised that Veda was trying to get Rex to be angry with me.
"Listen carefully, Faye. I don't mind getting divorced from you so that I can take care of Veda and her son. They are all I have left of my brother. So don't test me," Rex said passionately then stormed out of my room.
I stood there like there was glue on the ground and I couldn't move. Rex threatened me with divorce because of Veda? It was unbelievable!
