Chapter 9

1090 Words
I wanted to punch that stupid smirk off his face. It annoyed me how much control he could have. And here I was once again, sharing my bed with him. "See, nothing is better than sharing our bed in our apartment," he teased, coming out of the bathroom with only his sweatpants. "f**k you," I spat. "Oh, I will," he said with once again that stupid freaking smirk. He jumped on the bed, laying down next to me. "You know you really shouldn't hate me. I'm pretty great," he said, boasting. "Ya, you're so awesome that you left your son fatherless for a while there," I was not going to back down. If he was going too harsh, then I'll be twice as much. "Says the mother that kept him away from me," "Don't pretend like you didn't know about him when I left you," He stood on his knees on the bed and grabbed my shoulder and pushed me down on the bed, and hovered on top of me. “I didn't,” “Aria told you,” "I looked for you!" He yelled. "Apparently not hard enough," I bit back. He let me go, and I could tell he had nothing to say. He fell back on his side. I snorted and laid down, getting under the blanket, and reached up to turn off the light. He took his spot, and I could feel his back pressed against mine. "I'm not leaving" was the last thing I had heard before I drifted to sleep. - It felt like a breath of fresh air to wake up to have him be nowhere. It reminded me of how it once used to be. I mean, it's not that it had been long since he moved in, but I still missed it. Eli was still with Chris, which meant I would spend this morning alone, which seemed to be the perfect thing right now. Even if I had to go get him. I thought about the events of last night while making my morning coffee. What Reid had said made me feel some way, and I could barely even think about anything else. I didn't know whether I should believe him and trust him. There was no reason for me to. I have lived my life with Reid as his wife, and I knew this was not the man I would accept as my husband any time soon. But I worried about Eli. Even if he wasn't fond of him, Eli seemed to start to get comfortable with him. I was afraid if he did get too close, what would happen if Reid had decided that he no longer wanted to be part of our lives. It wouldn't be the first he had done it, but I pray that what he had said yesterday he had meant. I don't want to see my son heartbroken. I got ready for work quickly and knocked on Chris's door. Eli was the one to open it with his cheery smile. "Hey, little prince," I greeted him. "You seem to have had a great morning," I said, placing him on my hip. "Yaa! Ducky made me pancakes!" He said with a giggle. "He did?" I laughed, looking over at Chris to see him leaning against his door. "Morning," he said with a smile that made butterflies in my stomach go wild. I must have looked like an i***t standing there and just eyeing him. "Morning," I said. "I hope he wasn't much of trouble for you," "He never is," he said, reaching out and rubbing Eli's hair. "I was going to take him to school," "That's okay. I was heading to the office anyways ill just drop him off," I told him. "I'll go with you. I don't have to be at the shop until..." he looked at the time on his phone. "9:45. So we're good," I smiled at him and nodded my head, and we headed out. We dropped Eli off at school and headed our way to the store. Alex and the other employees had already been there helping some customers with new recommendations. "Wow, you guys are pretty busy today," he said, looking around. I looked around. "Ya Friday's are usually pretty busy," We made our way to my office and sat down. "When do you have to go back?" I asked. "I think I can stay for a bit longer. They can manage without me. I want to ask you something anyways?" He said. "Really? What is it?" I asked. He sighed. "Are you planning on getting together with your husband?" I was a little taken back by his question. "No, absolutely not," I assured him. "Good cuz I've wanted to ask you this for a while now, but each time something keeps interrupting us," he chuckled. I knew exactly what he was going to ask. And I was waiting for it. We had gone on dates before, but it was always cut short because of Eli or both of our shops. Maybe this time, it would actually work out. "Do you want to do something this weekend?" He asked. I was trying so hard not to squeal right now in front of him, but the beating of my heart going rammed was enough. "Yes!" I exclaimed. He chuckled. "This time, we're leaving everything behind," he said. "I promise Aria will watch Eli, and the shop is closed on the weekend," I told him. "Sounds good. I'll see you Saturday?" "It's a date!" I smiled. "Yes, it is," he winked and left out the door. I watched as he disappeared out of sight and closed the door, and jumped. My smile widens across my cheeks, and I could feel the blush from excitement forming on my face. I called Aria, unable to hold all of my happiness and told her all about it. She screamed on the other line and gladly said she would watch Eli. I heard knocking on my door and told her I would call her back later. "Come in," "Hey, Anna. Are you okay?" Alex asked from the door. "We heard screaming," he said. I turned towards him. "All good, Alex!" I told him. He shook his head. "Anyways, the new book from the author had come out. Do you mind coming to check it out," "Ya, I'll be out in a minute," I told him. He nodded his head and left. I took a couple of minutes to calm myself before I did go out.
